having previously impressed with their brazilian and french themed disco boogie sounds compilations, favorite turn their attention to the caribbean.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

brazilian disco boogie sounds, is a compilation that brings together nine of the most important and obscure hits of the brazilian funk-boogie-disco scene during the years of 1978 to 1982. jùnior santos is a carioca drummer since his 15 years old, and is today a respected vinyl collector and music researcher. more than anything, he is carried on by the love of brazilian music, which has never been forgotten.

theyre young and tough, and especially wonderful too, easily one of the most compelling harmony soul groups to ever hail from the windy city! the sets a chicago soul gem from the early 70s, recorded with a laidback, slightly tripped-out vibe thats different than the tighter styles of other groups from the same scene, definitely righteous at points, with some of the superbad modes you might hear from an east coast lineup like the delfonics or soul generation, especially when they were trying to get a bit more conscious in their message. arrangements are great – handled by tom tom washington, eugene record, and cliff davis, very much at the best brunswick mode, but again with a deeper sort of vibe too. the title cuts a monster, and a very fitting follow-up to their earlier sly, slick, & wicked track – and the album features 2 versions (vocal and instrumental) of a cut called this is the lost generation, a very righteous soul groove with a heavy production tip.

no longer one of denmarks best kept secrets, holtougs talent is firmly out of the bag as he touches down on hafendisko with the yearning ‘stay in love - a tune worthy of comparison in feel and tone to Âmes smash 2012 remix of ry & frank wiedemanns ‘howling. marrying the drive and energy of dance music to the singer-songwriting sensibility of his indie roots, its a delicious mélange, intense yet featherlight, booming yet ethereal: an intricate and playful soundworld characterised by breathy pads, deft percussive flourishes and a swooping, swooning bass that basks in all its glory on the accompanying instrumental version.
