swag classics centeres around some sought after reissue fare from the croydons legendary swag records label. these are 2 expensive double a side vinyl cuts - almost unaffordable if bough 2nd hand. so this is a very democratioc re release for fans of the label
(if any)think croydon and a few things come to mind, kate moss, punk band the damned, crystal palace football club, peep show and of course dubstep, the now world conquering music genre that will forever be linked to the south london suburb. what you never hear though, is any mention of tech house, another world conquering music genre. and to be honest we’re a little bit peeved about that. because if tech house has a spiritual home it’s croydon, and that is due mainly to swag records and the people that gravitated towards the humble west croydon record shop and studio.

soothsayers are back with a double a side featuring two massive tunes from their forthcoming album. originally released on the strut records album collaboration with cornel campbell, soothsayers have reworked their tune nothing can stop us upping the tempo and showcasing the vocal recipe of singers idris rahman , robin hopcraft and julia biel take me high is a heavy, dark and spacious head-nodder. sublime tripped out vocals by soothsayers as cornel campbell floats high in the atmosphere above accompanied by earth-shaking trombone and analogue bleeps in a sumptuous dubbed up mix. warm analogue sound recorded at fishmarket studios, mixed by daniel boyle at rolling lion studios. soothsayers releases are always championed by dj david rodigan (bbc 1xtra), as well as gilles peterson (bbc6) and many others.

nycs legendary sam records dropped the mysteriously named k.i.d.s dont stop- in 1981. it has it all trancey arpeggios, vocoders & vocals trading off with each other, brass & some heavyweight disco drums that helped propel it forth into the hallowed category of club classic. the record perfectly suited the open minds and open ears of discerning disc jocks in locales such as new york and chicago where this sublime piece of electronic disco sleaze would get plenty burn on the city s infamous wbmx thus having a huge impact, along with a whole host of other similar records, on the burgeoning house scene that was germinating in the fertile mid western soil. b-side cut do it again is a pleasant enough early 80 s disco jam, but compared to the futuristic burner that is dont stop on the other side theres one clear winner. a must have for all cosmic, disco, funk aficionados. now made available again, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with sam records new york city.

founded in september 1981 in orléans, and originally dedicated to a kind of ‘modern punk rock’, d.stop released a first 7’’ the following year. this impossible-to-find debut release is now reissued on vinyl for the first time. the three tracks of the original 7’’ are augmented with 4 tracks that are released on vinyl for the first time ever on this very nice translucent vinyl 10’’ plus download code. after this first 7”, sonny brailleur (vocals) + phil lethon (guitar/bass) + klod lelook (organ, synths, drum-machines) , inspired by french band metal urbain, stylistically transformed into a more ‘synth punk’ kind of outfit and released their first mini-album nouvelles du front in september 1983 that has been reissued by desire on vinyl last september. one year after, the band already ceased to exist – or actually changed the name to les visiteurs du soir – to turn back to the old name in 1985 by releasing a limited cassette. despite the very few releases by this gifted act, d.stop are considered to be one of the most interesting and under-rated cult acts in french cold wave.

for the inaugural release of eglo’s sister label melodies, we bring back a rare disco crossover anthem by taxie. formed in oakland, california in 1978 the band recorded rock dont stop & pressed up limited quantities. remastered from the original tapes, this uplifting dance-floor gem is having a second wind at parties worldwide, and has become a special moment at the you’re a melody nights.

we are happy to finally launch the repeat record label and booking agency! founded by matthias schildger & carlo ietri in 2013, repeat is finally ready to conquer the world and bring its sound to all music lovers out there. the first imprint of the new label was made by wigbert // matt star & marvin (incl. dorian paic, dragosh rmxs) and is called *play, stop, repeat*.

title track don t stop is a loose and playful thing that chucks loopy, circular drums, little vocal riffs, synth stabs and tumbling toms into the mix and lets them all groove along for almost six infectious minutes. its a spritely, silvery and slithering concoction that makes you shake your every limb. stare is a deeper, darker thing with rattling snares rolling over flappy kick drums and wobbling synths ducking in and out of the space left behind. its a tumultuous, drum lead affair that toys with your expectation, threatening to drop or explode but never quite doing so, instead keeping you right on the edge of your seat throughout. the final offering is nian which again has super well defined drums and hits all tumbling and sparking off each other. it s spacious stuff, too, and the indecipherable foreign language vocals add another layer of intrigue to what is already a fascinating cut.

comes on nice chunky 180grams vinyl! september, back to school again. in one side one of our favourite house artists from paris: le loup. cant stop is a funky and solid uptempo banger and cherish pauses the bpms blowing our mind out to another world showing how versatile can le loup be doing house music. on the other side one of our favourite newcomer from holland: junktion. smooth talking and lazy grind tracks are simply straight forward house music, hedonist and actual, but with some classic tricks that reminds us, in some way, to old legends.

cult melbourne band primitive calculators cut a single in 1979 before splitting in the true punk fashion. a posthumous eponymous live album was released in 1981 (also reissued this spring on desire) and that was it. those two tracks are as fresh now as they were more than 30 years ago: in a style not dissimilar to the screamers or cabaret voltaire (circa nag nag nag), primitive calculators used raw monophonic synth lines with scratchy guitars and screaming vocals but the songs were standing on their own (as the unplugged version of do that dance that appears on the primitive calculators and friends 1979-82 could testify. the original 7 inch is now incredibly rare and hard to find and this reissue is its exact replica. first pressing limited to 500 copies.

oh so coy unleashes its second 12inch with a deep vocal number from pete griffiths, aka yunome. petes second outing on oh so coy adds to his rather tasty 2013 release schedule with forthcoming releases on the well respected tug underground and something different records

first up sees the new methodology track in full on dance floor assault mode - serious break-fuelled techno with rolling drums, off beat funk elements and big stabbing chords moving in and out of fx laden atmospheres at a fairly furious pace. the b side introduces yet another incredibly talented producer from the iridite stable - mike singleton is a regular dj at glasgow s internationally famous monox club as well as being one of the chief tech-heads and all round music know-it-alls at rubadub records. his track here will appeal to anyone who likes to be genuinely shaken up by a track - it s got the lot - cutting edge production techniques, heartfelt melody, intricate and complicated programming, bassline turning and twisting almost inside out, fantastic fx, but most of all >the funk<! methodology round things up with another mutant house/techno hybrid track - all shuffly percussion, filtered samples and a mournful, string laden climax, layered with weird bleep-ing riffs and super-sub bass
