damon wild and david sumner (aka functions) relationship dates back to 1991 at lord michaels future shock, limelight, new york city when damon was running experimental records via northcott productions. at the time, he first saw something in dave and added him to brand x, a record pool run by moneypenny. but their bond is based around a period 5 years later when dave had an apartment above rogue music at 251 west 30th street in midtown, manhattan. it was during this time damon developed him as a synewave artist and released his first ep as function in the fall of 1996 catalog number sw-24. falling in and out of touch over the years, across continents, the two have somehow remained on the same cosmic path. so itÕs not a coincidence that now damon has turned to dave to release his first album in 13 years, during the time he is reissuing that first synewave ep on recompiled i/ii & ii/ii (a-ton lp02/03). this is where those paths cross again. 21 years later, this fall, dave will release cosmic path on infrastructure. the cosmic connection.
house music broke through in 1987, at the same time when aids arrived in france with the first contamination peak in gay and drug addict circles. in 1989, the founders of act-up paris knew that both the fight against aids and triumphant house music should be joined together. from 1992 to 1995, the period covered by Ò120 bpm-, house reached its most beautiful plateau even though techno was becoming dominant. Ò120 bpmÓ is a get-together moment through clubbing, this moment where fears are forgotten by dancing with oneÕs friends, what we called Òthe chosen familyÓ at act-up. boys and girls dancing in a club where the walls cannot be seen, flooded with simple light. this is their activist recess. arnaud rebotini, composing the soundtrack of robin campilloÕs previous film, Òeastern boys-, is a recognized dj, a composer and a kind man, which is for me the most important quality. here, his work is marked by restraint of his love for house and after techno. i believe he deliberately withdrew himself in relation to the filmÕs power and the aids theme.

the album is a collection of wonderful, emotional and very personal songs. written and performed by peter wangel, the lyrics are inspired by multi award winning, temporary norwegian writer karl ove knausgard and deal with very personal subjects from his own life. Òthe previous releases were about the ÒlonelyÓ feelings, the feelings that only existed in me, the feelings i wanted to set free for a long time. the new album is about my life as it is right now, about all the thoughts, expectations, worries and the happiness that comes with a new life as a family. this is a very personal album, but i also hope to express something very ordinary and something that most people can relate to.- also musically the album is a big step forward for wangel, the melodies are still subtle, but offer more nuances and colors.
with many influences, the musicians of la mano create a peculiar sound, a rock-salsa-ra•-reggae-rap cocktail which they baptize patchanka. manu chao, who writes lyrics, gives to the patchanka a more personal definition: a popular dance with apache lyrics and chorizo spirit. the band starts touring across france in october 1987 and rapidly establishes a solid reputation. a few months later, when the second record putas fever is released, the success is obvious. tracks sung in french, spanish or arabic, pas assez de toi, king kong five or sidi hbibi are immediate hits. after a long live-cruise in 1992 along the south american coasts, la mano negra gets back to france and separates in 1994. its hard to tell the impact of la mano negra across french and spanish speaking countries, with as many particular experiences that people lived during their tours.
