label boss nachtbraker is finally making his solo debut on quartet series after a successful ep last year on heist recordings. widely known for exploring different sounds and angles with his productions, this record is the most club-orientated to date. intricate ghetto house with a slight french touch to straight up 4x4 with a pinch of jacking flavour would be an accurate description of this release. the use of 90s hip hop samples within this auditory concoction successfully highlights nachtbrakers excellent ear for detail and penchant for exciting, eclectic and downright weird changeovers. the main hitter taking over the full a side is the title track small towel people. an uplifting bass line accompanied by heated 909 percussion and a hypnotic thriving arp to seal the deal. on the flipside, youll find kippendijen on the b1. a heavyweight in the house category, some glimpses of early days jacking house and a little french touch on the filter. throw in a breakdown even houdini wouldnt be able to handle and youll find yourself putting this track on repeat. then when the needle hits the b2 groove, zomaar kicks off with an energetic mpc style breakbeat before morphing into a deep jam of lush chords and a thrusting 4x4 beat. the track closes after switching back to the first part of the record and ends in a sublimely deep and dubby breakbeat.

things are getting grim. the good guys and the bad are determined to settle their escalating dispute in the ring. after the bookies have taken their bets, the bad guys are taking the upper hand in the first few rounds. the nefarious comment about their beloved mother seems to have sparked uncontrollable rage in the pair. dont rule out the good guys just yet though, as they seem to be plotting something their opponents from the dark side wont see coming. for the second outing in the quartet series, french fry and parisian concrete resident s3a (sampling as a n art, faces) infuses the good guys with some positive energy.

fresh from the release of their very first lp, here is an ultra rare repress coming from mid-nineties usa via one of the paris finest new labels, lazare hoche records. the bossman himself lazare hoche is an avid collector of rare house joints, and has a penchant for anything the truly epitomises the spirit of house music, raw, undiluted and full of funk. unlike some collectors who never reveal their secrets, lazare hoche decided to share his knowledge of those hard-to-find tracks of the past with this new release, and so acquired the license for three tracks by the cult duo nimbus quartet grouping them all together in a special vinyl-only reissue.

after their featuring on kyle halls boat party ep, the bologna based duo nas1 join the bosconi family with a lush six tracks vinyl strongly influenced by contemporary detroit house. a side starts with the chuggin and moody beat of -black coffee-, then continues with the stomping and sexy midtempo of -i don t mind- and ends with the more mysterious, electro boogie raw jam of -dallas vertical roll-. on the flip we find the slapped roadhouse blues of madturkey followed by the twisted gifted & blesseds re-interpretation of -i don t mind-. the ep ends with the melancholic and soulful textures of the shuffle groover -hoarse presence-. tasty!

the modern deep left quartet is back. well actually, it never really went away, but due to contractual obligations they had been releasing as cobblestone jazz the past few years. so its high time that the projects are re-branded as originally intended, and this release marks that foray into quirky techno and mid-tempo goodness.
