a sick collection of secret armand van helden cut and paste 80s tracks. lots of nu wave stuff going on with big euro samples getting van heldens midas touch. twins of pleasure is the favourite cut, with its pulsing retro bassline line and banging drums. the hilarous ktu track is another goody that wrecks a freestyle sample with ny radio station ktu ids on it. with all the current interest in the 80s, this is a really fun take on the idea.

2nd e.p from basement soul aka greymatter via the kat label, which, in a similar vein to vol 1 hits hard bringing us 3 more edits with the sole intention of getting them feet firmly on the dancefloor and getting down proper. loads of support on this from horsemeatdisco, ashley beadle, domu etc.. chains is the teena marie beauty from 1980. ace funky disco with subtle (but very effective) cuts n beefed up drums. this edit rolls in at just over 7 mins and sounds all the mightier for it. newbans magic lady is a massive slab of afrocaribbean disco goodness pure n simple. horns…breakdowns…killa vocals and congas a plenty. girl watching is another funk-edged boogie big hitter. original by t-connection, greymatter takes the already massive original and takes things up a notch or two

kicking off the ep is kritical audios >spandex<, a tune that comes slow on the heels of the swedish duos 2006 braindance monster >krupp<. the swedish duo have come with an itchy slice of razor sharp electrofunk with a burbling acid bassline thats currently being caned by surgeon and rob hall (who says, i ve been playing the kritical audio track a lot. good stuff )... this is a big tune!
next up we have miles tilmanns >spirex< which starts with a wonky off beat that gives way to some wacked-out rubbery bassline action and a lead line that could have come from the keyboard hands of harold faltemeyer or parliaments bernie worrell.
following that is c. mantles >that other eden<. fearsome and delicate, morose and savage, >that other eden< is a serious piece of dancefloor heft with reese basslines burbling under a clattering beat before dropping away into a slightly terrifying double-drop breakdown.
unity gain temples >sahmo< rounds out the ep with a glistening, truly beautiful piece of work. the heavy kicks of the intro are met by a rush of lush chords and deft touches of melody, driving the track into a space that is pure audio luxury and reminiscent of brothomstates, arovane and tippers more contemplative moments.
permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008’s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.
the mighty soundmen on wax unleash 3 of their latest & greatest projects showcasing new talent to the label as well as some familiar names & faces. the wipe the needle boys kick things off with their collab with vocalist eddie stockley pure soulful smoothness with live guitars and classy drums. fresh from their outing on louie vegas vega imprint, djn project make their sow debut with æbeautiful people. instant hooky melody and as ever with the label a vocal to just die for, makes for the perfect combination. finally, defected artist dolls combers provides the killer remix on tyron dixons æbring it back bursting with hooky, catchy piano riffs, big vocals, and a steady moody bass. a major ep from an institutional label.

this is the tune for getting spiced on the dancefloor! no more boring klicks and klacks, time for energy again, that s what alex must have felt when treating his gear in the studio while processing these two outstanding tracks. really remarkable techno again from alex bau, just as we are used to it and know from him for quite some time now. the tracks appear in a moderate design of sounds, avoiding to harsh and hard action, but the fierce leadsoud of wasabi tune vol 1 will surely make everybody moving, just as the usual suspects playing it already: stephan bodzin, liebing, technasia, perc, gary beck, florian meindl, mihalis safras, mr. beyer and many more. very very big tune! must have for this summer!

after his huge >pepper exchange vol. 1<, anton zap is back with more spicey house music. moscows finest offers 4 warehouse esque deep house groovers and proves that without a shadow of a doubt hes one who you need to keep close tabs on. on quintessentials 05, anton keeps his >pepper exchange< style: stripped back, & raw! its pure, back to its roots simple groove quality which works so well with anton zaps new 12inch. but like a lot of antons music, deep atmospherics play a big part and this is why his music has that standout from the rest feel. its not often that you come across a ep where all the tracks are playable, but even less often where all the tracks make you step back and appreciate them much more than you normally would. essential house music for those looking for the simple soul filled stripped back house feel
for our lucky seventh 12inch in the rvng of the nrds series, the galactic captain of the edit, greg wilson, makes bodies move with two grooves from the heart and soul. cosmic dj delight cycle spins an italo classic through giddy guitar orbit while adding groovy echoes from the bright corners of the big 90s dancefloor. soul sacrifice plunges the percussive depths of san frans finest jam moments of 1969 and comes up modulating for more. seriously enlightened cuts from the creator and originator.
made to play brings the noise with the sounds of wearhouse music and head honcho lee mortimer. lee mortimers exciting, sleazy, demented take on house has been kicking the sh*t out of dance floors and festivals the world over. this e.p is not for the faint hearted but is for those who like to rock a big crowd in a ballistic way. when jimi hendrix played not just one but both sides of it at woodstock in the 70s the place went off its tits and when he reverted back to playing the guitar it just couldnt compare and he never quite got over that. lee mortimer is currently reveling in mass support from the likes of switch, claude vonstroke, diplo and kriss akabusi who apparently likes to play these tracks as a post love ritual, naked and chanting awooga! round the camp fire he has in his bedroom. if you want to embellish the feeling of either hendrix or akabusi in the primes of their existences then get stuck into this release and youll feel like a combination of the two peaking on acid.
next big coup on the well-established höhenregler label with finest minimal pumping beats and fractional psychedelic hooklines. plays from önür özer, loco dice, monika kruse, nick curly, pete tong, someone else, italoboys, laurent garnier
the latest release on rising trax is this cheeky little ep from max vangeli. three top draw tracks on show here. >crazed< starts simple yet effective and builds slowly into a big distorted guitar hook before dropping back into a very militant rhythm. >k.e.j.i< is a stripped down prog house number with a wicked groove overlaid with nice stabs and a cool hook. the final track of the ep is >i rock< which begins as a minimal house track then drops with some cool squeaks, bleeps and delayed noises. the stabs turn into a big snyth riff which can only be described as large!
