shakarchi & straneus are faik and daniel, two bffs from gothenburg who are making some of the most catchy, emotional and well crafted dance music we have heard in a long time. both had been involved in music for a while when they started working together at their hometowns top tapas joint, manana. in between washing dishes and serving patatas bravas, the boys would burst out short tracks and sound experiments in the makeshift studio they had set up inside mananas cloakroom. this led to a debut 12 inch on malmo based geography recordings and now comes their five track ep >dodskallar och korallrev<: studio barnhus second release, the best swedish house record since jesper dahlbacks >what is the time mr. templar?<, something we are immensely proud of being able to release.

shakarchi & stranŽus inhabit a secret place in the universe of music, one existing at the intersection of scandinavian poplands, hisingen forest raves and outernational placelessness. faik shakarchi and daniel stranŽus famously started making beats together in the gothenburg tapas-joint coat check where they both worked as clerks. their now 10 years old friendship is the story of legends, their sparse vinyl output the secret love of deep house 12 enthusiasts round the globe the warm, vibrant sounds found on those records a stark contrast to the stripped-down effectiveness of their marathon dj sets, frequently heard within the more nefarious examples of gbg nightlife.

the reveries begin with a simple electrical hum Ð a starting signal for the appearance of a vibrant array of sound, shifting before us in seemingly random motion. before we know it, all those pulsating melodies, razor-cut hifi-house beats and drunken robot jazz ensembles start forming into patterns, secretly & perfectly designed by one art alfie. a long time operator in stockholmÕs small but insistent underground music scene, oscar wedrŽn broke through internationally in 2012 with the karlovak project, founded with on-off studio and dj partner rudolf nordstršm, a.k.a. mr. tophat. the duoÕs inexplicably fresh takes on classic dance music tropes is as much a result of a brilliantly odd pairing of personalities as of a defined concept and a precise method in searching for the perfect house groove. while writing reveries of, released early spring 2017 through studio barnhus, art alfie freed himself of all conceptual footholds, delving instead deep into his archives of old and new memories and feels, working with improptu field recordings and emotionally-guided sampling processes. he came back with an intricate and personal debut album and he didnÕt lose his groove on the way.

for the past seven years kornel kovacs has been busy rocking dancefloors and boomboxes worldwide as one third of stockholms studio barnhus alongside axel boman and petter nordkvist. the label and dj trio is spearheading a new era of fearless swedish off-centre dance music, straddling the line between the cute and the menacing. anticipation for kovacs debut album has been rocketing following stand out releases like 2014s wistful szikra, last years mad party anthem pantalon on glasgows numbers imprint and the late night groove of space jam on smallville records. on the bells, kovacs pops open his trunk full of sounds nicked from the lost and found bins of nightclubs all over the world. from the distorted organ chords of bb to the stripped down trancehall beats of joseys tune and sziv utca and the title tracks cinematic romanticism, its all of the bells and all of the whistles - further positioning kornel kovacs as one of the most characteristic producers of modern house music. the record was completed in an intense two-week session with kovacs great friend and great studio engineer matt karmil in the cold winter of 2016. another close friend, artist malin gabriella nordin, has created the album artwork together with her brother jonas.

axel boman broke through in 2010 with his holy love ep, released on dj kozes pampa records. the track purple drank became an instant classic in underground house music circles since then, boman has toured extensively while releasing original productions and remixes on labels like dfa, hypercolour, kompakt, permanent vacation and ovum, as well as on studio barnhus, the label he runs together with kornŽl kov‡cs and petter nordkvist.
