berlin legend charlie smooth is back at it, spreading good vibes with a new ep packed with delicious cuts. after seven years of organizing and playing his infamous get deep parties at about blanc where he was a pioneer of bringing the disco and baleric sound to berlins house scene, charlie has started a new chapter as one of the founders of smooth operators. while he still rocks the decks on a regular basis at his new party disco train and plays around europe spreading his disco and baleric sound, charlies focus with smooth operators is all about translating the years of knowledge gained digging and playing with some of the greatest djs of our time into putting out records with only the best quality tracks.
on this debut release, all four tracks are examples of true diggers delights and super rare, esoteric sounds that djs can use to really set off the vibe on any dancefloor. with smooth operators vol 1, the label is making a strong statement that they are ready to put out real top quality tracks that can be enjoyed by diggers, djs, disco, funk, and soul lovers alike.
after spending 6 months of last year holed up writing in his london studio, charlie joined forces with acclaimed producer danton supple (coldplay, doves) to begin recording his debut solo album. the result is an accomplished 12 track record that oozes with vintage warmth and whose luscious melodies and occasional imperfections lend it a vibrant character and earnest charm. lead single -down down down- was rapturously received by charlies fans including fearne cotton who made it record of the week on radio 1.
diner city sounds fifth release, back to the start with matthew kyle who helped kick off the label with dcs001. four of his personal favourite tracks make up the 12, a brilliant release! a1: do it charlie - mk at his best! slow, grooving edit, super sexy vocals and really beautiful percussion. words cant describe the greatness! huge sound cloud hit as well. a2: midnight- hypnotic track, just beautiful! synths are incredible, cool little vocal and light percussion. b1: i want myself for you- fun track, one to make your booty bounce! nice use of a well known sample, brilliant vocals. all round heavy groover! b2: inside - love things slow right down on the final track. a lovely, atmospheric track with a great beat - showing off matthew kyles baby-making music talent! top class
this is the debut release from aussie youngster, charlie why. a superb dark druggy disco 4 tracker. >i am deliciously wired< sounds like an acid trip spaceship mixed with freaked out vocals drenched with mechanical rhythms and industrial squeaks. >biscuits< enters you into a world of space and depth, looping you into a wonking and rolling state of mind. when it is reaching the early hours of the morning >nose< warms you with deep seductive elements with sexual groove. like a girls naked body, >mountain body< is smooth and curvaceous with lush piano chords, rolling bass, and vibrant melody.
the debut album from charlie alex march is a wonderfully melodic and satisfying affair, gloriously english in a non sniffy manner, like tea and crumpets or a stroll on an autumn day. like a soft collision between aphex twin at his most melodic, nick drake at his string soaked finest or some hybrid of steve reich and syd barrett scoring a tim burton movie, the music of charlie march has a lingering, delicate beauty that will be around for a long time.
>not my cat< is a brooding fusion of bubbling acid, deep bass tones and low-down jacking rhythms that treads a line between early doors groover and late night mood setter. >demons among us< is exactly the sort of cinematic-style club production that will resonate with fans of charlies work. forging together multi-textured layers of precision crafted sonics, the overall vibe is one of minimized, robotic-funk that provides the foundations for a killer shimmering melody to do its joyous damage.
