backyard boogie present their first release from the new label coming out of amsterdam. the release comes from the friendship of charlie & jody and what they created together coming from two different musical backgrounds, now with their music crossing paths. they used a variety of analog machines and field recordings to help create the music. the release also sees a collaboration with a local amsterdam artist ardjoen mahangoe, who helped create the artwork for the release.
berlin legend charlie smooth is back at it, spreading good vibes with a new ep packed with delicious cuts. after seven years of organizing and playing his infamous get deep parties at about blanc where he was a pioneer of bringing the disco and baleric sound to berlin’s house scene, charlie has started a new chapter as one of the founders of smooth operators. while he still rocks the decks on a regular basis at his new party disco train and plays around europe spreading his disco and baleric sound, charlie’s focus with smooth operators is all about translating the years of knowledge gained digging and playing with some of the greatest djs of our time into putting out records with only the best quality tracks.
on this debut release, all four tracks are examples of true digger’s delights and super rare, esoteric sounds that djs can use to really set off the vibe on any dancefloor. with smooth operators vol 1, the label is making a strong statement that they are ready to put out real top quality tracks that can be enjoyed by diggers, djs, disco, funk, and soul lovers alike.
rrwd is a label collaboration between ta-ku/ repeat pattern & jakarta records. charlie abbott is a 25 year old from boston, ma.living in aomori, japan who teaches high school english. i made goes to math class, over the course of about one year (from fall 2015 fall 2016ish). as for influences, i d say i was trying to go for the dirt of early quasimoto mixed with the melody of emerald fantasy tracks era lone, but i m having trouble describing it in terms of larger generic genre terms.i feel like it has a beat tape structure, and is definitely rooted in hip hop//dance music, but isn t really danceable or meant for the club.i d probably describe it as headphone music?
CHARLIE WATTS MEETS THE DANISH RADIO BIG BAND (2X12)
2x12" Vinyl lp D26.04.17
charlie watts meets the danish radio big band is the kind of album that many jazz fans had probably given up hope of hearing. in the glory days of big band jazz and arrangers like oliver nelson coming up with brilliant music, albums like this were, if not commonplace, at least more readily available. the truth is there is nothing commonplace about this album, it is a sheer delight.
anyone who knows charlie, knows how much he loves jazz. a few years ago when he and i were looking at a photo of the stones playing in the 1960s he pointed at a particular cymbal and said, “i’ve still got that cymbal, but i don’t use it on stones’ gigs, it’s too good for them. i just use it on my jazz gigs.” there’s no doubt, that’s the cymbal you hear on the first part of the ‘elvin suite’.
charlie watts is one of the great ambassadors for jazz and every jazz lover will relish this record, and the fact that charlie is involved may bring jazz to the attention of some that are not sure if they like jazz. listen to this and you know you do.

from his early days in dublin with the bassbin label to working with the likes of calibre, 4 hero, klute, alix perez, rockwell and noisia, he has never stood still. 2008s cheap shots lp for total sciences cia records was a high point, with lead track walk away bringing vocalist steo to the worlds attention. also a noted remixer, he has retouched artists as diverse as dillinja, slam, rolo from faithless, sabre, lemon d and lenny fontana. zero ts discography shows the diversity that his dj sets have always shown, ranging from full vocal smoothness to darker, more technical styles. you are as likely to find his music on labels like subtitles and shogun as on soul:r or signature. 2010 saw two milestones reached, the launch of footprints, zero ts own label, and compiling and mixing fabriclive052 for the esteemed london venue. after a short period away from the scene, 2014 sees the return of zero t as a producer and dj. watch out for his collaboration with long-time cohort beta 2 coming on metalheadz platinum soon and a follow up ep to the roxy music ep on dispatch recordings.

a unique collaborative project by visual artist charlie white and musician / producer boom bip, pressed on white vinyl. together the pair have created an ep of dance tracks based on in-depth interviews of teenage girls with accompanying photographic images. the magical, yet sometimes uncomfortable results are now made available on a very limited edition 12 inch. each of the 5 tracks captures the essence of a different teenager, from the privileged and popular georgia musing on the importance of being liked, to the sultry and complicated isabelle recalling her melancholy crushes of freshman year. the original interviews were painstakingly edited and set against the pin-sharp boom bip productions they inspired, whilst the visual element was born out of whites intensive photographic study of a teenage girl living in the isolated suburbs of southern california. white generated around 11k images over 2 years and has selected 12 for *music for sleeping children*. in addition to the 5 original tracks this package includes 5 instrumentals exclusive to this vinyl format. grab this while you can!
ben harper has teamed with renowned harmonica master charlie musselwhite to create *get up!*, a piercing song-cycle of struggle and heart, slated for release by stax records/concord music group on january 29th, 2013. recorded in los angeles and produced by harper, get up!, is his 12th studio album and first new recording since 2011s *give till its gone* (virgin).
diner city sounds fifth release, back to the start with matthew kyle who helped kick off the label with dcs001. four of his personal favourite tracks make up the 12, a brilliant release! a1: do it charlie - mk at his best! slow, grooving edit, super sexy vocals and really beautiful percussion. words cant describe the greatness! huge sound cloud hit as well. a2: midnight- hypnotic track, just beautiful! synths are incredible, cool little vocal and light percussion. b1: i want myself for you- fun track, one to make your booty bounce! nice use of a well known sample, brilliant vocals. all round heavy groover! b2: inside - love things slow right down on the final track. a lovely, atmospheric track with a great beat - showing off matthew kyles baby-making music talent! top class
charlie feathers is a legend even though he never had a hit record or anything close to it, but he had a style all of his own. he was one of the first to work in a hybrid style somewhere between honky-tonk country and blues that became known as rockabilly. he was the first recording artist to sign with the famous sun records label but his rawest and most collectable 45s are the handful he released on ohio label king on which have been changing hands for vast sums since the 1970s. his theatrical, hiccup-styled, energetic, rockabilly vocal style inspired a later generation of rock vocalists, including lux interior of the cramps (who also covered >can hardly stand it< on their 1984 album >bad music for bad people<) and iggy pop of the stooges. both these original cuts where recorded and originally released in 1956 and >can hardly stand it< is featured in the quentin tarantino movie >kill bill 2<. dj support from : bob dylan (bbc 6), mark lamarr, steve jones (sex pistols), keb darge.
this is the debut release from aussie youngster, charlie why. a superb dark druggy disco 4 tracker. >i am deliciously wired< sounds like an acid trip spaceship mixed with freaked out vocals drenched with mechanical rhythms and industrial squeaks. >biscuits< enters you into a world of space and depth, looping you into a wonking and rolling state of mind. when it is reaching the early hours of the morning >nose< warms you with deep seductive elements with sexual groove. like a girls naked body, >mountain body< is smooth and curvaceous with lush piano chords, rolling bass, and vibrant melody.
now available on vinyl and limited to 500 copies. the new long play offering from providence, rhode island, based trio the low anthem explores changing times, places, love, and loss over the course of its 42 minutes - sonically superior to their debut outing, the group has also built upon their songwriting, starting with the album openers charlie darwin (a beautiful track, featured on our own counter culture 08 compilation) and to ohio - both quiet mood setters, they lay the framework for what is, mostly, a haunting, late night mix of tunes featuring sparse, organic instrumental arrangements and wonderful harmonies - that is not to say that the album is one dimensional - on the contrary, the bar room stomp of the horizon is a beltway and champion angel serve well to keep things varied, offering a growl one wouldnt guess to be coming from the same voices and interrupting the albums lullaby with an abrupt jolt.
>not my cat< is a brooding fusion of bubbling acid, deep bass tones and low-down jacking rhythms that treads a line between early doors groover and late night mood setter. >demons among us< is exactly the sort of cinematic-style club production that will resonate with fans of charlies work. forging together multi-textured layers of precision crafted sonics, the overall vibe is one of minimized, robotic-funk that provides the foundations for a killer shimmering melody to do its joyous damage.

after butch aka bee low, amir & the groove rebels the next resident dj of the 50 grad club mainz/germany starts producing: marcello nuncio and his production partner amir (groove rebels) turned out his first single charlie - a very warm, deep, and minimalistic electrohouse tune. on b1 taste t.s remix picks up that feeling, gives it much more energy and turns it into the perfect prime time tool. the overset mix on b2 takes the motiv of the song an transforms it to a massiv electro bomb like her first hit. on the dancefloor
