this february nightdrivers deliver three first-rate cuts on holic trax for the quando party dove vai ? ep. following on from burnski s the hours ep which saw love from names like mr g, catz n dogz, dam swindle and eats everything, holic trax returns this february with nightdrivers quando party dove vai ? . since delivering their debut release on bosconi records back in 2013 the berlin-based duo nightdrivers have been going from strength to strength stacking up further releases on claap, their own nightdrivers label and now holic trax. to get things underway the light pads of resta pure dove sei give the opening track a floaty quality while the weighty percussion and subtle rhythms build proceedings into a steady and infectious groove. nightdrivers appear to go up a gear as the ep progresses with the rippling drums and dynamic arrangements of la ronde suite (but not for me) while fast cars maintains the lively vibe of its predecessor and frenetically bubbles along over busy modulations, wacky intonations and infectious licks to dish up a suitably punchy close to this bouncy ep.

stockholms dungeon acid returns with one of the strangest, nastiest acid records to date.carnal knowledge is caveman techno, one chord hammered with hypnotic precision, a two-note acid line adding an air of polyrhythmic mystery. the heavily processed sounds of copulation comprise the bulk of the atmosphere, the whole thing feeling like an alien, updated version of lil louiss immortal french kiss. the instrumental version is a slightly swingin’ variation on the same theme. dungeon acid principal jean-louis huhta is known for editing the sweetest parts from his hardware enduro-jams. the bonus beats title for b2 is a bit of a misnomer in fact, these are the sounds of mutant, futuristic lovemaking in all their glory, perfect for sexing up otherwise sterile dance music. get some!

absolutely huge record from the shelter vaults! roland clark killing it on this underground house anthem from the turn of the millenium. i get deep (shelter mix) is pure peak time joy, based around a rough looping sample lifted from blue magics seminal philly anthem welcome to the club from 1976 and with clarks vocals telling us how he gets down in the club over some heavyweight drums. simple, yet devastatingly effective. this 12inch also features the dub mixes, original mix and the always indispensable acapella version for those who wish to create their own version!

celebrated and mercury-nominated uk duo rae & christian released their first new material for ten years in 2013 on night time stories/late night tales after spending the last decade meditating in a buddhist monastery in swindon. this year the label commissioned a series of remixes from mercury rising and mang dynasty (aka ray mang & bill brewster) take on favourite game featuring rising star of the swindon buddhist circuit jake emlyn. mang dynasty focus on gita langley s backing vocal hooks adding a chorus piano motif and stretch things out into an epic nine minute plus main version aimed squarely at the dancefloor (and afghanistan). jake emlyns more aurally-pleasing melodic parts are utilised towards the end taking things up another level to a happy finish. initial reactions have been so strong it seemed rude not to slip out a 12inch on mangled, home of the hits!

in the wake of youandewans spiral arms ep, will sauls aus turn their attention from the established to the auspicious and present a brand new artist from the camp: escape. based in glasgow, escape is a fledgling talent whose cultivation amongst the ranks sees him now ready to drop the first of several eps on aus.

meda fury presents *remember every moment ep* by pearl river sound. fury continue to bring the heat with their first release of what could quite possibly be a banner year for the label. pearl river sound is the moniker of italian musician roberto semeraro. based in rome he emerged on the scene with a cassette release on the seattle label further records. after a further cassette release on indole records which again explored his classic 90s electronic and idm influences, his media fury debut sees him bring in some 4/4 beats to channel classic deep house sounds without losing his signature pure and melancholy sound.

a club in the parthenon basement where you cant see in front of you, you lose yourself as the antipodean heat beat surrounds you. this is the latest imagination of melbourne-based band leader nicolaas oogjes. marrying into a greek family (his wife contributes spoken word on two tracks), oogjes became fixated with hellenic culture and its impact on humanity, prompting his rotating cult of collective consciousness musicians no zu to spiral deeper into their celebration of global rhythm and percussion. their even weirder, sparser and more synth driven sound is the result of creative exchanges with home loan records ceo michael ozone, who helped them realise the strange and complete world of medusa music.

in most tactical manoeuvres, there is an obvious greater goal which people want to achieve. delusive manoeuvres are different. what you perceive is what they want you the perceive. what you think is their goal, might be a delusion and mislead you into that unreal direction they want you. they are in control.

the revenant ep is destined to be in your gig bag for the foreseeable future. never content to rest on the success of their previous releases, technos working class heroes tunnel, submerge, and lee holman are hitting dark, hypnotic, and heavy with this 12 inch release for naples-based, etichetta nera. a revenant has returned in tripartite form with a whisper on its lips... bang.

following on from the the likes of the excellent son.sine re-issue, delsin kicks off 2015 with another one in the form of micronism s steps to recovery ep. originally released on nurture records in 1999, the ep, which comes in black and limited coloured vinyl, is a bonafide deep house classic from the short live career of new zealander denver mccarthy. engaging causelss mercy is a contemplative, atmospheric affair with soft drums and celestial pads that could roll and roll forever and you d never get tired. the quiet mind is just as deep, but the spiralling pads and rippling melodies here are more colourful and charming. both tracks are hugely spacious, luxurious affairs whilst constructing space on the flip is a more stripped back and humid number that is more enclosed and oppressive for cosy back room spaces. finally, the title track is a playful, elastic house track with heartwarming hooks and pinging drums. this tasteful ep shines a light on some definitively deep tracks that really do deserve the attention that will now inevitably come their way.

for the timely tenth edition of the grey series, m_rec ltd welcomes back donor / truss to the fold. whilst tom russell has been lately flexing his truss muscles with perc and causing a furore as blacknecks with bleaching agent, donors greg schappert has been busy readying his dystopic debut album, against all. after last years swampy aber for their first grey series outing, ash sees the production partnership revived in the form of a trio of gritty, excursive techno works. starting with cut one on the a-side, ash simultaneously builds and decomposes, eked along with hypnotic loops and irritated layers of noise to conclude in a creaking industrial crescendo on the b-side.

mystery production unit dj bmx continue their thrilling, no-nonsense adventures in the underground with the conquest of gravity ep for mil. techno-fused roller -warrior within- gets matters underway as thumping bass and ticking hi hats form the fore of the track, marching along over off-kilter bleeps and succinct glitches. the rough n ready aesthetic of the track sets the tone excellently for the ep, leading coherently into -wonders of time- where slight changes and improvisations keep your attention, with dubbed out key jabs that are matched melodically against atmospheric synth pads whirling in and out over crisp percussion clicks. -spinning across the sky- maintains the inspiration for myriad sources, cosmic, dreamy chimes are sprinkled over a tentatively used piano sequence, distorted key kicks and muddied percussion. its the only moment on the ep to include a vocal, and its used beautifully as it floats around the tracks central structure, lending it a spacious and depth-charged feel. -radim world- finishes everything off with a touch of pepe bradock style elegance - the multi-layered arrangements are fluid and dynamic, resulting in well-executed deep house.
