played by sebo k, karotte... layo and bushwacka! are equally at home turning out summery housey affairs as they are peak time stormers, and >now is the time / the time was then definitely fits into the latter category. a double header, the loose concept behind the release is to represent the sound of the dancefloor now versus the sound from a few years ago. >now is the time< has its feet placed firmly in 2008 - a crisp, clean techno bassline, topped by hand claps, snatches of breathy female vocal, and full of an irresistible array rattles, whooshes and other indefinable sounds that the duo seem to pull from the depths of their imaginations. it breaks with some simple electronic sounding chords and a stirring martin luther king sample that makes this record so memorable. >the time was then< is based around that same sample, but gives a cheeky nod to a few years back, with a bassline and keys that wouldnt have sounded out of place on their seminal �night works� album. it never goes too far towards nostalgia, though, and either would rip up a late night dancefloor

played by karotte, l.garnier, steve bug, sebo k, mike shannon, layo, d julz !!! we are pretty sure that maetrik sent us his latest ep from a grow room orbiting the earth. his space chronic ep combines the innovation of techno with a sense of fun missing from your average four on the floor banger. its a little shocking, but the results have been exactly what wed expect from the dallas native - mass freaking on the dancefloor. the albums lead single, sex with bass, explores the type of low frequencies that usually occur when suspension bridges tear apart. all the while a subsonic voice repeats its desire to have sex� with bass! stab jockey throws a techno curveball at the start, utilizing rhythmic synths over a simple beat. dont trust it! midway through, the line clears out for full-frequency busting bass drops. on the flip, crawl machine immediately builds a head-nodding groove that wastes no time firing off its boosters � half the track is a sneaky buildup. by the time the kick slams back in, youre already back in orbit. cuban born maetriks techno pedigree is bulletproof.

trouble in paradise is a pure testament to the roots of r&b flavored vocal house. in the danism vox the sweet simplicity of the standard boom & clap intro is well paced and leads into the funky bassline, while the enchanting chords set the stage for the outstanding vocal performance of sean williams. his r&b flavored, distinctive phrasing is mildly reminiscent of john legend, however, seans earthy quality shines through. the passionate & insistent lyrical melody never fails, climaxing into panoramic bridges while the memorable bah de dahsintermittently dot the production. its texture is a reminder of sophisticated nyc funk a la early 80s prelude/west end/sam records with a modern house feel. djs, if you want the ladies on the floor, trouble in paradise (danism vox) is the one to drop!
