island people is a new band project consisting of mastering engineer conor dalton, grammy award winning producer david donaldson, and musician and dj graeme reedie. on their first self- titled record, they present their collaborative work that evolved over the past three years. being based in different cities, namely berlin and glasgow, files had to be exchanged back and forth between the three band members in order to create tracks. for their delicate sound structures, field recordings and other sound sources were heavily processed and rendered unrecognizable. layer after layer, the tracks came into being quiet naturally, not only reflecting their continuous way of working, but also incorporating their different and individual backgrounds: Òduring the whole creation of the album, we never realized our actions were quickly leading us into forming Èisland peopleÇ, we were too busy having fun, making music and sharing ideas.Ó the result of their collaboration is a timeless music that is as open as a natural phenomenon, developing a certain feeling of euphoria over time. all in all, Èisland peopleÇ is a pure listening record in the best tradition of ambient.

there arenÕt many artists that can lay claim to having put out records on labels as divergent as rough trade and john talabotÕs hivern discs. perhaps this is because few artists express such genuine diversity in their musical tastes and creative explorations as david kitt. since the turn of the decade as new jackson he has mined a seam of driving, ghostly house to run parallel with his solo strand of ambient folk electronica. his debut release in 2011 the night mail on pogo channeled early record collection heroes aphex twin and orbital through to drexciya and projekt pm but had one foot firmly in the 21st century beaming in like some futuristic cyberballad. on the flip side hussle free had that mix of house and boogie sensibilities with dark and dusty synths and vocoder that would become a signature. this was followed by acclaimed releases on hivern, permanent vacation, major problems, apartment and most recently cin cin. his debut album set for release on all city in may was recorded in kittÕs bedroom studio overlooking dublin bay, its nocturnal hues very much a product of the nightshift often working on headphones with the rest of his housemates fast asleep. it takes full advantage of the scope of the lp format, ebbing and flowing between deep house club ready gems and more restrained and meditative beatless moments for the morning after. the recording process yielded many eureka moments with kitt finally nailing sounds that had hitherto proved elusive.

a lot can be said about the stubborn and confrontational ways of prolific dutch producer drvg cvltvre and his new york haunted label, but one can never accuse him of taking the easy way out. musically, his output of experimental electronics has swayed between heavy industrial techno and noise, composed music and slow, doomy and experimental house. on this new, full lenght album nobody cares forever he blends all of the above. from the orchestral hit, rave fueled opener to the melancholic synths of closing track all of my heroes and everything in between is pure experimentation and decomposing of standard house, rave and techno elements. now, here, in this #trumpage, you can feel his resistance to authority and the readiness to confront in every inch and fiber of this album...

sascha borchardt aka monoloc is a dystopic atmospheres fanatic that has dedicated his life to the dance floor from an early age. the frankfurt-born artistÕs raw yet sleek take on techno and ambient has evolved to characterise his own musical style in his productions. monolocÕs sound is a mixture between techno, dub and ambient, nurturing a tone that is driving, groovy and low-slung, but with greater emotional range. he acquires most of his inspiration from old movies and likes to work mostly with field recordings in his productions. Ôthe untold wayÕ on dystopian is his second album, following his first in 2012, and shows a notably matured development in the artistÕs style.

a collaboration between aphex twin (richard d. james) and µÐziq (mike paradinas), mike & rich - Õexpert knob twiddlersÕ was made back in 1994. richard edited the tracks into shape later in 1996 with his new apple mac computer and it was released later that year on rephlex, the label he co-owned and which released the first two albums by µ-ziq. this new reissued version has been carefully cleaned up, re-edited and remastered from the original dat tapes, put into a more fitting order and, more excitingly, seven new bonus tracks and alternative versions have also been added. the album was recorded over a few days during the 1994 world cup, back when richard lived in a big shared flat in stoke newington. richard had tried to collaborate with a few other likeminded artists but something clicked when mike and rich worked together and the sessions have a unique feel, playful and at times actually drunk. these are fun experiments in the spirit of lighthearted moog pop and ripe 70s british tv themes, standing out from the po-faced electronica of the time with a garish glee. the record was made on what is now seen as pretty primitive gear - an atari, roland mks-80, memorymoog, roland r8 and a handful of samples on a casio fz-10m - but itÕs to their credit that it resonates well with the hardware workouts coming out today. there s a broadminded but sloppy funk to the record, even whistling, singing and harpsichord in reg and wonky beat pile-ons in jelly fish . there s latin piano and wheezy drunken techno in ÔvodkaÕ, or the sleepy spaced out ambience of Ôbu bu bu ba with its barely contained laughter which seems to reflect the absurdity. the new versions and bonus tracks are an absolute delight - from a trancier version of Ôvodka to the wonky bounce of Ôportamento gosh , the 3/4 dub of waltz, the banging door bass of brivert and muonds , the creepy seasick atmosphere of clissold bathroom and finishing with the strangely graceful and serious organ plodder . a generous and welcome return to the racks

for the past seven years kornel kovacs has been busy rocking dancefloors and boomboxes worldwide as one third of stockholms studio barnhus alongside axel boman and petter nordkvist. the label and dj trio is spearheading a new era of fearless swedish off-centre dance music, straddling the line between the cute and the menacing. anticipation for kovacs debut album has been rocketing following stand out releases like 2014s wistful szikra, last years mad party anthem pantalon on glasgows numbers imprint and the late night groove of space jam on smallville records. on the bells, kovacs pops open his trunk full of sounds nicked from the lost and found bins of nightclubs all over the world. from the distorted organ chords of bb to the stripped down trancehall beats of joseys tune and sziv utca and the title tracks cinematic romanticism, its all of the bells and all of the whistles - further positioning kornel kovacs as one of the most characteristic producers of modern house music. the record was completed in an intense two-week session with kovacs great friend and great studio engineer matt karmil in the cold winter of 2016. another close friend, artist malin gabriella nordin, has created the album artwork together with her brother jonas.

those of a certain vintage may have a soft spot for global underground s after hours series, which promised to soundtrack -the party after the club- by joining the dots between woozy progressive house, deep techno, electronica and, of course, ambient. some eight years after the last installment, the long-running club brand has decided to re-launch the series. apparently, this latest installment took a year to put together, and featured tweaked, edited and gently reworked tunes layered up for a more enjoyable listening experience. musically, it sticks to similar territory to previous installments, updating the sound a little via tracks and remixes from ewan pearson, lawrence, scuba, matrixxman, michael mayer and joris voorn.

two years on from his previous full-length, irishman-in-stuttgart marcus lambkin returns with what follows, his third album. recorded in his home studio, but mixed with juan maclean in new hampshire, it s a typically stylish and trippy set that methodically joins the dots between giorgio moroder, lcd soundsystem, italo-disco, german techno, balearic deep house, and intense chicagoan acid. lambkin has always been adept at making club music both left-of-centre and accessible, as if he secretly pines to make 80s synth-pop but is consistently drawn towards the dancefloor. this certainly explains the quantity and quality of the vocal numbers dotted throughout what follows.

john frusciantes foregrow doesnt sound like any acid test record, or any record, thatÕs come before it. after the unlikely alliance between the los angeles label and the iconoclastic venice, ca musician on trickfinger, all bets are off. this ones truly a passage through night. frusciantes using elements of john carpenters eternal scores, the drum programming dna of jungle and footwork, and yes, a roland tb-303, all slowed down to a crawl. foregrow is a lurching, lysergic beauty which offers glimpses of his platinum pop instincts, but only behind the veil of true experimentalism.

two years ago i played at studio 9 in vilnius, lithuania. the following day i missed my flight home and ended up spending an extra day, which gave me a chance to explore the city with my friend linus, who took me to the contemporary art centre. it was there i spotted a book named ÔrojusÕ, that linus told me translated as ÔparadiseÕ. the word and striking cover of the book stuck in my mind. a few days after returning home, i turned on to a national geographic documentary named Ôdesigned to danceÕ, explaining the courtship rituals of birds of paradise. as i watched, i jokingly began drawing similarities between these birdsÕ attempts to captivate and impress the opposite sex with dance, and the way strangers try to attract one another in clubs and interact on the dance floor. this gave me the idea of creating a record of functional club music, sequenced as if it were a club night, from doors to closing, using samples of these birds of paradise and their habitat. thus, rojus. leon vynehall 2016

over the course of the past ten years, stil vor talent has striven to support emerging young artists, to continuously broaden and redefine its sound, and, ultimately, to create lasting memories, both on and off the dance floor. the dance floor is the place where we gather to leave the worries of our everyday lives behind, and, for those few moments, form a bond, which transcends the final track of the night. a bond between each other between the artist and the dancer between ourselves and the music. on 10 years stil vor talent we celebrate this bond and say thank you.

hvob: trialog hvob present their second album as an interdisciplinary work of art: ten physical processes are reflected in interactive installations, visuals and sounds. with their successful debut album (hvob, 2013) and five eps, hvob have crafted a unique panoply of sound: intelligent and driving, challenging and melodic. trialog, the second album by the producer duo anna m�ller and paul wallner, will be releases on april 17th. i. project above all, trialog is an interdisciplinary art project, comprising a discourse between the disciplines of sound, video and installation, realised by hvob, the vjs licherloh and the visual artist clemens wolf.
