celebrating our 20th release, glasgows dave clark returns to optimo trax as sparky. he was responsible for the third release on the label as luma which featured the club smash -john broadwood- and recently had another big club hit with signals- on numbers. we are delighted to welcome him back in what is a contunuation of a relationship that stretches back further than we care to remember. all four tracks here are certified dancefloor winners, from the reach for the lasers, kickless things fall apart through the synth rhapsodies of black swan and my prophet, climaxing in the jacking seven daggers. all killer, no filler is often a trite cliche in these blurbs but is entirely true in the case of this ep.

mike ash returns to super rhythm trax after providing the very first release and gives us 4 authentic and acidic warehouse smashers. mike ash may be familiar from early releases on moving shadow and rising high records under a variety of pseudonyms in the early 90s but in the last 10 years has become synonymous with releasing mind blowing and true electro under his own name. when he turns his hand to acid house, the results mirror the high quality and his no nonsense approach shines through having lived and breathed the music and culture back when it was exploding in the late 80s and early 90s. in his own words i tried to keep with the original 1988/1989 vibe. i didnt use any synths / sounds / samples that weren t available past 1990. its all juno / sh-101 / 303 / jupiter / 808 / 909 / 707 / 606 and samples from the beats breaks & scratches vol 1&2inch the tracks exude a raw and strangled soul and are a bold and comfortingly honest take on the warehouse and pirate radio sound of the uk.

the original palingsound from rotterdam continues in 2016 and following up on paling trax 2 is a collaboration that finds its roots in the ghetto streets of rotterdam. paling trax 3 is a split ep featuring two rotterdam-based underdogs, mitchell goor and tafkamp. raw club techno cuts. forthcoming in april 2016 during fishing store day.

lost trax embody the idea of underground techno. the shadowy group, members unknown, began their music careers over 20 years ago. output may be low, but quality is high, the style being no compromise techno brilliance. and thats whats on show here. kick drums and squirming acid bars are at the core of faith, a track where soaring strings shift and reshape. the chiselled claps and barbed bass of flatliner follows, taking its cue from the heyday of detroit. a watery world of analogue abstraction greets the listener on the flip, lost being an atmospheric journey into to the squelching swamps of the tb303. sniping beats introduce the lush tones of renderer. blurring the lines of electro and techno the track is an elegant end to an ep of deep and dense layers.

another example of marshall jefferson s unassailable genius in the late 80 s, as he moved effortlessly from raw jackin gear through to redemptive vocals. nowhere near as famous as its predecessor -7 ways- on dance mania but arguably better. re mastered for 2016 and re issued in conjunction with trax.

a brilliant tune produced by a team who also worked together at chicago s loop record store, jesse jones and carl bias. written by leroy haggard (aka mr. lee) when you hold me was arguably the fiest of the deep house genre. the pair went on to work extensively with liz torres, the queen of house. re mastered for 2016 and re released in conjunction with trax.

nyc loft trax unreleased vol. 2 give me shelter. not much known about this release but made by seminal production outfit in the mid 90 s nyc. never before released in any format! all killer no filler! the first volume sold out in days... dont hand around.

holic trax was founded in 2012 by berlin based dj/producer tomoki tamura and now serves up its 19th release from brett johnson.

mark e last delivered on futureboogie back in november 2014, so it’s a welcome return to the label for the birmingham based dj & producer. with his merc imprint running on full steam, and previous releases on revered labels like spectral sound and running back, mark is becoming an ever dependent exponent of the real and raw house music vibe, and no more so than on the basement trax ep. basement trax 1, distorted synths wander over a low-slung beat, the marching hi-hats and filter work are tweaked to perfection. it’s a track of basic elements, but done so well, the arrangement building steadily and bags of warmth and soul deep at the heart of this track. the gnarly bass and classic string sounds of basement trax 2 make an ideal companion piece to the a side. delivered in the finest wild-pitch tradition, the raw sounding production packs a punch as the stomping drums and repetitive keys ramp up the heat for a real blazer of an underground club cut.

berlin-based palms trax continues adding to his run of quality efforts with the forthcoming release of his high point on low ground ep: impressive effort number two for the dekmantel imprint. serving up three retro-futuristic killers, donaldson parades his ability to touch on the many different corners of contemporary house music, whilst delivering heavyweight dancefloor standards. the title track blazes a beaten-up vocal snippet over stanked-out synths, stretched to a breaking point across a low-riding bass line. a stabbing moroder-esque bass line dominates cloud city , whilst paws equals pure and raw broken-beat bliss with a pinch of acid.

expanded re mastered edition of farley s classic no vocals necessary ep from 1988. 2x12inch ranging from distorted acid to funked up disco filtered excursions. essential!

after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

from france comes fabrizio rat with a 4-track ep constructed entirely from acoustic piano and drum machine. mr. rats unique sound design blew our ears away, particularly at a time when so much techno is more reliant on following a blueprint rather than trying to push the frontiers of what is possible, which to us was always the true raison dêtre of techno

cardopusher appears as if by magic on super rhythm trax to drop four acid bangers. there are no frills or pretensions here, just jugular acid trax that dont mess around. straight up, solid and perfect for dark strobe lit basements. this ep channels the rawness with aplomb.

theres a bit of a story to side a. in 1996, jd twitch released a 12inch by manchesters bryn jones aka muslimgauze on his then label pi recordings.

detroits jared wilson provides the 10th release for super rhythm trax and it lives up to it s title.
on *plate mining* and *idea of a deep state*, jared goes in deep with lush, strings that sooth you as the 303 works it s magic underneath. while *how deep* provides a brooding acid line and works the percussion. minimal but deadly.
jared has long been on the srtx want list after proving himself as a master craftsman with a slew of classy releases on his own 7777 label. super rhythm trax is overjoyed to have him on the roster being one of the most skilled knob twiddlers out there who knows how to work it but also and perhaps more importantly, when to hold back.

after a 3 year hiatus making techno for various labels, orlando b returns to his deep house sound which gained him recognition with ep’s on yore, undertones and seven music. this time he brings us three contrasting house cuts on his new label contemplate recordings which will now be the primary output for his deeper productions.

the second of two brilliant eps produced by merweyn saunder and eric lewis. although this was released under a different name, they were actually all done in the set of sessions that also gave us the previous release, the virgo four ep. as far as the duo were concerned m.e. was their name and virgo was imposed on them by someone at trax. the two eps were later conjoined and released as an album in the uk radikal under the name virgo. it was re released in 2010 by rush hour.

made by mark imperial & vinnie devine as laurent x, machines was conceived in a 16 track studio with an unquestionable roland tb-303, but also a tr-808, tr-909, a juno 106, some fx and a bucket of rib tips. according to mark imperial, he and his friends (specially vinnie devine) had a mad fun playing with gear.
