with juno records hitting its tenth release we revisit yet another classic from the archives of electronic music royalty. producer, label boss, dj & remixer extraordinaire, charles webster will need no introduction to house music lovers, and its his 1998 collaboration with renowned uk vocalist shara nelson which gets a 2010 touch up. orignally out on the seminal label pagan, >sense of danger< was a true deep house anthem back then and stuttgarts most famous son, motor city drum ensemble steps up with two contrasting but equally excellent remixes. the >other thing dub< revisits the raw cuts sound that mcde is famous for - nelsons vocal expertly chopped up over organic piano grooves and a chugging beat. the second vocal mix stays truer to the tough beats and metallic synths of websters original, a real chicago feel provided by the ebullient hats and dubby bass line.

a pair of bangin tribal cuts from brothers vibe on the first release on the mixx label. >conga terado< is all about the beats, with a solid kickdrum laying the foundation for some killer tribal beats and percussion. nothing else used here, its just bangin beats all the way. on the reverse, >slave to the rhythm< opens with a thudding kickdrum alongside some filtered synths and a stabbing vocal before the tribal gear comes into play. again, no bassline here, just layer upon layer of percussion and drums. should be perfect for the pro jocks amongst you to tool around with.

andré decided spontaneously to record fresh material especially for the label, more than 6 months before our fi rst release. this says a lot about the common trust that was born that day, much before the hype surrounding the man. the result of this saw the light some weeks later in the form of vehemence of silence, a track of indeniable power which breathes long years of djing & berlin afterhours as much as uncovering close impressions of andré’s emotional outcome. this is what made me feel that track like a whisper to my body & soul and what makes me so proud to release it today… more than 10 months down the line, andré improved it, tested it on the fl oor till a fi nal club listening session in the middle of the berghain dancefl oor where we both knew it was ready to be shared… this special track needed of course outstanding alternative perspectives and it didnt take me long to propose my old friend danilo plessow amongst andrés favorites to give it his magic : motor city drum ensembles version translates an unexpected techno jam reminiscent of the best early soma days. the ep is completed by a second original called dark edge, a sophisticated & raw deep house joint. a&r and words by dairmount

taken from the drumattics forthcoming album hammer & tongs comes back to the old school. a piano driven, hands in the air tribute to where it all began. with bambaata influenced strings to take us from the old school to outer space. the aa is drum thunder, with compelling orchestral stabs that drive right to the heart of this belting underground workout. a signature bassline squelches around the lead vocal, before an almighty breakdown twists the glitch to the max and propells us straight through the nearest dancefloor.

with browse dplay is pushing things forward and proof that a laidback tune can cause some serious action on the dancefloor. it is a journey into the future but always referring to the past. it is somewhere in between disco and house and even catches the spirit of legends like roy ayers. on the flipside theres a deep and techy remix by ribn, which are dplays homies langenberg and manuel tur out of essen.
