after a winter break and a with new focus on original and forward thinking house, boe is back for 2009 with one of the hottest detroit artists to break onto the scene in years. kris wadsworth is a man who truly has his own unique production style. for years the term minimal has been banded about for music with little soul, originality and that essence of dance music, a groove. kris is a guy whose interpretation of minimalistic music oozes all of these qualities and much, much more, stripped down, funked up house that takes the listener back to when house was raw, full of energy and brimming with soul. his production resembles that of an early herbert, crunching and twisting his way though drum samples and polished chords to create a sound that is simple and intoxicating yet difficult to copy. less, it seems, is most definitely more. dig is kris first four-track ep and showcases his sound through four slices of deep, groovy late night house. the first track the depths of is kris sound summed up in just under nine minutes. the first three minutes belong to a long intro that builds and builds through vox snippets, stab samples, synth chords and h-hats that ride the groove. the track breaks down only to kick back in with a chunky snare and trippy pads to whip the listener into a frenzy. macrotones is a wonky late night rhythm synth track that wouldnt sound out of place at fabric at 7am. on the flip, white bread kicks off where the depths of left off, a catchy rhythm with swinging stabs and moody chords. a growling, gut-moving baseline makes the track a real dance floor favourite. the final track on the ep is haunted house a deep houser with a delayed bassline perfect for those late-night moments.

the fourth and final sampler for the way of the samurai represents the full stylistic diversity of the label samurai music. hobzee & zyon base were asked to design a tune specifically for this project and when 1000 paper cranes arrived in the inbox it was obvious they had a very firm grasp on the sound the label was looking for. fluid, gliding vibes and a subtle sexy vocal ease the tune into its rhythm. the breaks and bass provide a step reminiscent of photek to the eastern sonics that unwind themselves around the rhythm.

the best comes last, that is also our opinion and we are proud to present 2 amazing tracks before we take a little summer break. again with a new artist on our ostwind sailer. the young bulgarian ataneus gives his debut on the a side. with >20 years of democracy< he shows us a lyrical, energetic and detroit flavoured track which builds on and on and will definitely rock the floors. an excellent debut how we think and we look forward to his forthcoming tracks. on the flip cosmic cowboys give their vinyl debut on ostwind, too. here on fofftein they come with the anthem >deep is a message<. shallow depth, fluffy, with massive compression of course, and as the name implies rounded down with deepness, this track is a really nice mover for the open air season. we appreciate these artists for this great release and we think to them when we enjoy this sound over the big pas at the open airs

a little piece of sampledelia from maxmillion dunbar (future times, food for animals) and ari g (manhunter). you know when you scoop a record at some flea because the art looks tight, but it turns out that the shit is wack except for some little beautiful chunk? yea you do. we rescued the good parts from many terrible records that otherwise just would ve collected bad vibes on our floors. dudes trying to bring back something like early daniel wang but mix it with heavy boogie visions (swimmers groove) and all these psuedo-african slow cuts from the 90s that we keep finding (o yea). lifeguards for the vibe.

zombielicious is one of the best dance albums of the decade. when i first heard it i badly wanted to license it for turbo and we almost did. zombie was even into the idea, but the timing was bad, so we decided to put together a turbo-riffic remix pack instead. bad idea compared to getting every incredible moment of that album... but luckily the result is amazing.
