this obscure lost soundtrack for an even more obscure (and also lost and never finished) italia violenta cop movie was recently discovered when i bought the dusty reel tapes from a restaurant owner in fiumicino, a seaside town near rome. panter 777 aka il labirinto di roma violenta aka the maze of violence, he told me, was directed by gervasio giardano in 1981 and was considered too (politically) explicit by the movie production company who dropped the project after the first screening. the soundtrack, an explosion of wahwah funk riffs and juicy analog synthesizers, was composed by an obscure band called nacho patrol. the restaurant owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of the band members and composed most of the tracks. groovebox ep is filled with some class a material for the raunchy dancefloor. first up there is into the club. this track is typical for channel x: it will blow off the roof in the club! as the title of the track already suggests, this is another one of channel xs lengthy journeys into nightlife extravaganzas. a wonderful fidgety bassline and a loop filled with loads of soulful vocal samples from strong male leads to sensitive female souls, this tune is both deep, touchful and destroying. the chainsaw effect session in the middle paves the way for more stomping tech-house business. no time to recover from this, because on the flip its straight onto the floor with wake up: a loop thats made of trillions of little cut-up effects, vocal bits and some straight four to the floor business. after a playful beginning the tune moves into an hypnotic piece of trippy techno only to be converted into a restless party anthem for the Überpeak-time. sick! perhaps there is some time to chill with the last of the three tracks that is against the wall. here it becomes clear what channel x are best at: to create dark, hard and moving electronic music with that special ingredient that is soul. this track is a perfect example: some frightening effects, lots of reverb on the creepy samples, but such a wonderfully harmonic sample that seems to shed light at the end of the never-ending afterhour. if there is a message to this music, it would be: you need to look hard, but there is always love. once again label boss oliver koletzki has picked up these two very talented producers very early upon their career and it has paid off: in one release being better than the one before

rinder & lewis: anger - considered one of the most abstract production teams of the disco era, this cut was taken from their >seven deadly sins< album (very rare!). never released on 12inch inch, this cut was a music box fave! not much to edit, just give it a dj friendlier drum intro. a great cut for a disco or a deep house set!mighty clouds of joy: time - one of my favorite edits! taken from their >its time< album. even thought this song was produced by dave crawford, the philly sound played a big part in it (thanks to norman harris on guitar & earl young on drums). the song was originally recorded in 2 parts, so i combined them with a little bit of dub. yes, you can give praise and boogie at the same time!

the third installment in the catz n dogz vinyl series is a showcase for two standout songs off their album stars of zoo. >sf< is a throwback to classic house tracks, with a modern twist - a playground full of joyous children have invaded its sly, bongo-laden grooves. yet these precocious youngsters are only part of the story – the beats insistent and ever-changing swing never lets up for more than a couple of moments. >2< is more ominous but no less effective. its primary percussion enters like springs filling up an echo chamber, gradually morphing into several competing themes that weave together throughout the track. 2s bass is a serious force, creating a physical presence that must be heard on a large system to be believed!

made to play brings the noise with the sounds of wearhouse music and head honcho lee mortimer. lee mortimers exciting, sleazy, demented take on house has been kicking the sh*t out of dance floors and festivals the world over. this e.p is not for the faint hearted but is for those who like to rock a big crowd in a ballistic way. when jimi hendrix played not just one but both sides of it at woodstock in the 70s the place went off its tits and when he reverted back to playing the guitar it just couldnt compare and he never quite got over that. lee mortimer is currently reveling in mass support from the likes of switch, claude vonstroke, diplo and kriss akabusi who apparently likes to play these tracks as a post love ritual, naked and chanting awooga! round the camp fire he has in his bedroom. if you want to embellish the feeling of either hendrix or akabusi in the primes of their existences then get stuck into this release and youll feel like a combination of the two peaking on acid.

another quality dmx krew masterpiece we at turbo are longtime fans of dmx krew, so its a real honor to work with him again 6 years after his last contribution to our now defunct sub-label white leather. we dont normally trace an artists history or include much biography in our press releases, but we feel the need in this case to pay our respects to a long and brilliant career. with all the crap that gets paraded around nowadays its easy to forget who the real masters are... ed dmx is one of them. ive always held a soft spot for ed, he was one of my favorite producers in the proto-electro heyday. hearing his live version of the knight rider theme at sona (tigas club circa 96) was (believe it or not) a revelation. of all the artists id met up until then, he was the coolest, he could play synths better than anyone id ever heard, he had the balls to do vocals in his live-set but he was a sweet, softspoken, and super funny guy. for reasons ive never understood, eds pop side didnt seem to take off and for awhile things took a distinctly experimental turn... interesting stuff, but a departure

likely ep is tims first release on tiefschwarzs souvenir label. lead track alike sounds like ivan smagghe jamming with richie hawtin in a warehouse rave in london, skirting a line between futuristic tech house and discerning electro. a live bassline holds down the groove as a trickling bleepy melody develops throughout the track. as more and more layers of elaborate sonic trickery are laid down, a driving snare jacks out the groove further before a series of effects laden breakdowns tighten the tension further and further. cowbells take the second phase of the track ever taughter before the groove emerges into a stabbing hook and pulsating synth noises that drive the dancefloor into blissed out oblivion. subtle vocals tease the ears in the background of the final strung out breakdown, never quite dominating the tune before the jacking bass and kick drop back in. ‘unlike shares a similar vibe for mixing live instruments with plug in madness. live sounding bassline and guitar lines open the track and roll out the groove before the main synth hook takes over. as the track rolls in and out of its breakdowns it lurches between reverb heavy, bleepy chaos and futuristic rhythms. think depeche mode writing an experimental instrumental on the moon in 2012 and youre halfway there. like many french artists these days tim lives and works in london and also collaborates with fellow frenchies ivan smagghe and dante eprom. he first caught the attention of vinyl sleuths with his excellent remix of db (8)s future now in 2004 and now runs his own label marketing music as well as pushing the boundaries of spacey electro flavoured tech house with his own solo material.
