repress - for their first multi-artist compilation, music from memory take us on a trip to the heart of the amazon rainforest. outro tempo: electronic and contemporary music from brazil, 1978-1992 is a double lp that explores the outer reaches of brazilian music, where indigenous rhythms mix with synthesizers and where mpb mingles with drum computers. as brazil faced the last years of its military dictatorship and transition to democracy, a generation of forward-thinking musicians developed an alternative vision of brazilian music and culture. they embraced traditionally shunned electronic production methods and infused their music with elements of ambient, jazz-fusion, and minimalism. at the same time they referenced the musical forms and spirituality of indigenous tribes from the amazon. the music they produced was a complex and mesmerising tapestry that vividly evoked brazilian landscapes and simultaneously reached out to the world beyond its borders.

the m side features another rising reggae star, massicker, originally from jamaica and currently residing in boston. massicker is a superb writer and this tune is his calling card as he explains the decline of personal interaction due to the rise of social network sites and mobile phones. the second track on this side is the customary heavy grynch dub, with plenty of echo, reverb, drum and, of course, a devastating bassline. sure to please all lovers of roots music as well as flavours to spice the jungle and dubstep crews.

hot on the heels of the smash release from superlover, mother recordings welcome back simion to the label with his the rhythm ep. simion presents two cuts of upfront house music that are prime for the dancefloor. first up is title-track, the rhythm , a nod to the 90s chicago sound with jacking drums and a sensual female vocal. backed up by a funk-fuelled bassline and a lush piano breakdown that lead into a deep house groove. the b-side feeling good is true to its title. tight percussion, chopped vocals and a catchy synth line all come together in a fluttering climax. this one is sure to leave any dancefloor shaking.

(detector for advanced neutron capture experiments), the various artists series of the label, comes back with the italians ness, luigi tozzi and the french underjack. on the a-side with -tmb- ness turns a robotic rhythm in a dark electric / industrial infected tunnel. luigitozzi’s a2 “blood meridian” strikes soft under an oppressive butterfly effect creating an intense flow. underjack on the b-side delivers a nebulous groove that is responsible of a eight minutes of immense hypnotic techno cut with energy drums and crispy bassline.

skeleton recordings are proud to announce the release of the skeleton xxv project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the label which originally launched in 1992. this is a five part collectors edition to celebrate 25 years of skeleton recordings. volumes 01 to 04 sleeve artwork when put together will form a big piece of artwork of the revamped original skeleton recordings logo that will look good on any wall. volume 05 will be a picture disc. the full digital album will only become available once all five volumes have been released. the project has taken just over 12 months to put together and is definitely something for the collectors. it has been generating quite a buzz within the underground circuit the closer it gets to release date and has been getting some really good support from the likes of bailey, storm and ray keith to name a few.

first ep of the label lowlife cartel. dissociative tones, texture of the sound and atmosphere sought here, more than melody. no boundary in genre but same sonic ethos. the two sides of the ep includes two tracks ambient/downtempo fitting with patient listening. three other, lofi tracks, and more efficient to play into clubs. face a starts with -nerve splicing- by telekommunist, also known as wpx7, face covered and steps muffled through a deadening blizzard of tape saturation and white noisey envelops that find a balance between deepening the sense of immersion and a retained groove. -kairu- by a. latif, affiliated to the experimental and elusive russian label john s kingdom. an arsenal of textures are employed, surrounded all the time by different kind of breeths carving out a growingly satisfying contrast between the shivery charm of its melodic line and the roughness of its elements. a rough diamond. face b, -kfs-, by vslds (present on the next cousin carl release, after kinway and voyd) is a delusional and abstract piece of lofi hip hop. setting skittish drums and heavily altered rapper vox sample, smothered against a grey-ish canvas of blurry, washed-out pads. this feels both playful and unhealthy. -gotta go fast-, by paul santangelo (venetian causeway), is marked with the very personal style of this artist who does his way across the ever effervescent lofi techno scene. the round, drag-shed bass, fits with an introspective melody and atmosphere. -every man has a woman who loves him-, by loophie (raw russians), surprises the listener at the end of the disc with a lofi house track sampled from john lennon, very effective in club. the czech lofi house videomaker moskalus edited a video of it on his youtube channel. 5 artists to follow.

for the third installment of the ftp series, the tracks twist into darker genre territories. the compilation opens with psygnosis, a nine minute acidic techno stormer beaming from the pineal gland of the reclusive new zealand artist matthew brown. the track starts out with a simple hook, building intensity towards a crescendo of raining acid lines and 808 hi hats which resemble unsheathing swords, twisting form into hypnotizing insanity. on the b side, draveng unleashes some comic mischief with isogamous skoliosapien, a frantic rave tune bursting out of the seams with jazzy drum hits and frantic chord stabs. it would be a good soundtrack for phantasms to dance to in a haunted place. closing out the ep is the propulsive electro missile nonstop, a track that whips into the air and spins like a jet powered boomerang. it is is the first release from the finnish cyber-phreek sansibar. expect more to come from him in the very near future

felix da housecats esteemed label founders of filth are back with their second release. the label has received an accolade of praise from the industry since their launch was announced on resident advisor back in may. returning with the aphrohead alias, founders of filth volume two is bursting with enlightening verses and impeccable instrumentation. the divine opens the ep with a haunting synthesis and enthralling lyrics. aphrohead leads you down a path of eclectic percussion and that all important kick throughout. an almost space-age xylophone forms the melody of moonrooms hold/release, building up to a frisky array of drums and shakers, propelled by hypnotic, slowed-down vocals. in-house band the foftreal quintet end the labels second ep on a high with i wonfof002t try. an energetic beat structures the groundwork for the label boss and his enthralling backing singers, taking you on a journey with thought-provoking internal monologue. felix stallings has been making his mark on the industry for over thirty years. the detroit-born music veteran has worked with an impressive array of artists over the years and his productions span a wide range of genres from house and techno to trance and nu disco. felix has gone back to basics with his label founders of filth, claiming that no rules apply in the community he has created, it’s about your love for the craft not for the money.

over the past six years, dimensions has become a leading name in the underground, with its festival, international series, dj directory and dimensions soundsystem. now, dimensions extends its influence with the start of its label - dimensions recordings. the label launches with a 12-track compilation across three separate discs. ‘an introduction’ makes a huge statement in setting out the label’s intent and breadth. with artists established and new stepping up to present 12 exclusive tracks. * an introduction part 1 calls upon artists from different corners of the globe who share the similarity of undeniable soul and expression in their music. the ep has an earthy, worldly feel to it. from the swahili sung harmonies on mim suleiman’s ‘pole pole’, to the afro influences of swiss collective alma negra’s ‘onga’, both tracks work raw percussion with just enough swing that either would sit comfortably within latenight uk dance floors or on the sun-kissed beaches of pula, croatia – dimensions festival’s home. then there’s the jazz-tinted glow of istanbul’s kerem akdag whose ‘getdownsoclose’ deep roller makes use of lush pads and rushing snares. closing is maryland’s james tillman, who’s soulful vocals on ‘wander’ sit gracefully over transcendental keys and compellingly loose drumming, rounding off part 1 with a dose of the soul.

cazeria cazador records have been purveyors of the spikier end of techno and electro since their genesis in 2016. this, their first various artists compilation, is a ruff n’ raw reflection of the labels life to date. producers russell, aurelius98, tomas urquieta , mas569 and mucho sueño combine on this hot slab of dark wax tripped and wired with intelligent stutter-gun drums and machined funk.
