united by a simple question as what is electro?, the two young english producers of joe and will ask? have spent the last two years creating dirty, cutting edge productions and taking over the london club scene. with an eye firmly on the dance floor, but also with effortless musicality not normally associated with techno, theyve won over fans from the band / indie scene, as well as diehard clubbers. they inject tonality and musical flow into everything they touch, all under the banner of techno or electro or whatever you would like to call it, and have been compared to justice, soulwax, dim and popof. after several eps, acclaimed by the likes of brodinski kris menace, vicarious bliss, casper c and autokratz to name a few, here comes their first release on kitsuné. claymore, delivers a tensed and breathtaking swoop with obsessive rhythms, while take me away with its strong rock energy and vocal hook, will set all the dancefloors on fire

an extremely tasty 4 tracker from the massively talented par grindvik. the a1 is a real killer with its rising synths and sledgehammer drums whereas the a2 is a perfect contrast with its slow intense minimal groove. the b1 again is a real floor burner with its driving groove and clever synth edits halfway. the record closes with a superb more minimal interpretation yet agin. drumcode again proves it is still one of the most cutting edge imprints around... limited backstock available

another serious result from our warehouse rummaging! si begg is a man of many musical personalities, his list of aliases is impressive to say the least (bigfoot, buckfunk3000, lenny logan, s.i. futures, zygmunt janowski...). but one of his oldest, and certainly one of his strangest, is cabbage boy. in fact i confess i am old enough to remember his releases in the early 90s on cassette tape under the umbrella of the >cabbage head collective< (which also included such techno notables as cristian vogel & tim wright) - and pretty mental they were too. the lost tapes vol. 1 doesnt disappoint on that front, containing such gems as a remix of 80s pop mysteries frank chickens>we are ninja<, and an electronic cover version of >king kong< by frank zappa (ask your parents...). totally out there, but totally cool at the same time...highly recommended to anyone looking for something with some real personality amidst the hard-drives full of faceless (and usually nameless) digital fluff

stewart rowell & louis gaston are otherwise known as the streetlife djs with over 30 years turntable experience between them, and a blatant disregard for music genres! the rules are, there are no rules! they add samples, accapellas & sound fx to the equation. compliment that with some of the most cutting edge electronic dance and alternative and the result is something exciting and very refreshing. the pair lives in london, is resident at together and also plays at ministry of sound, renaissance, the end, chibuku shake shake, gatecrasher summer soundsystem, ibizas space, get loaded, gobal gathering etc. the track will be featured on the much expected kitsuné maison 6 compilation out in october with a club version on the b-side, this new tracks from the english superproducers is sure to be the falls dancefloor anthem
a romantic montage of cutting edge production techniques, and the incorporation of instruments and vocals into an environment built on experiments with glitchy cut-up funk and found sound. a record with a distinct sense of personality and charm not ordinarily found in vinyl releases. renewal feat. 2 tracks by breandan himself, renewal, and brand new lovin. additionally on the b-side appears serious, a track from breandans side project under the 5yearsolderthandavid moniker with his song-writing partner david schwarz (vocals and guitar), and a funky broken beat treatment of renewal by none other than switzerlands rising star shaka
VOICES OF THE DEAD (5X7INCH)
5x 7" Box
17.09.08
!!!!!!strictly limited to 500 copies!!!!!! together with stefan goldmanns debut cd the transitory state, macro releases a strictly limited box set containing five 7? records holding the electroacoustic album voices of the dead. with his releases for innervisions, perlon and macro stefan goldmann has been a key figure at the cutting edge of post minimal techno and the renewal of house music. this album is a distinctively different affair though, reaching far beyond the scope of dancefloor electronics. starting a trilogy of concept albums, stefan goldmann searches for the common root of all music in an electroacoustic setting. from this album turret is already renowned as the intro sequence of richie hawtins groundbreaking de9 transitions mix compilation and was also commissioned by the biblioteque nationale de france for the imeb phonoteque public collection. the artist explains: at first sight we recognise upfront elements like a melody or rhythmic pattern, which we associate with a certain piece or style of music, but there is tension between two notes, hard-to-define background information that at a closer look is found everywhere - within the music of coltrane and stravinsky, death metal and 9th century byzantine chants. if there is anything like a total, secret common ground, than its this information lurking in the background. these are the voices of the dead, the heritage of an endless line of ancestors brought forward through the centuries. i tried to make these elements audible as clearly as possible. really like this weird space ambient one. ive put katorga and izo already into my final scratch computer and have been playing them! (richie hawtin on voices of the dead) record release event at berghain / panorama bar berlin on september 4th, 2008, feat. ricardo villalobos, mika vainio (pan sonic) and ulrich schnauss (tbc).
