ever dreamt to travel to trinidad&tobago? disco segreta makes this dream come true with its 6th release: the muchawaited officially licensed reissue of this tropicalo-disco synth bass boogie atomic bomb, from the original analog masters.

written in late 1983 by mario baldoni aka miro (of -real life games- lp(1977) and brina s -stranamore- (1984) 7- fame, was originally released in july 1984 on the small pineapple label – a sublabel of armando sciascia s-vedette- – with close to no success and a pressing fault: a glitch on the vocal version, that affected all copies.
this tropical summerish blend of italo and boogie, along with the male/femalealternate spanish/english singing, turned into a true classic of the genre over the years, slowly making the playlists of the most respected djs and diggers worldwide.

the 4-tracks 12- features the original vocal and instrumental versions in theiroriginal lenght, carefully dubbed from the analog stereo masters and takenback to new life through disco segreta s usual respectful mastering. also, two new remixes are featured.

‘pat thomas introduces marijata’ is a seminal ghanian album that fuses highlife, reggae, folk, funk and soul, from legendary vocalist pat thomas. originally released in 1976 on gapophone records. ‘marijata’ was a group made up of three members – kofi ‘electric’ addison on drums, bob fischlan on organ and nat osmanu on guitar, hailing from ghana. pat thomas career began in 1969 with the ‘broadway dance band’, leaving a year later to join the ‘uhuru dance band’. he then played with ebo taylor’s ‘blue monks’ and finally formed the ‘sweet beans’ in 1973 where he really made his name. the group released ‘false lover’ in 1974, split and then reformed as marijata, releasing ‘marijata’ (also available on mr bongo) and this album, ‘pat thomas introduces marijata’. thomas career spans more than 50 years and he still tours regularly across the world. replica original artwork, official mr bongo reissue. licensed from gapophone records courtesy of george prah.

as the lead singer of george darko s legendary burger-highlife hit-band, lee dodou became the number one voice of 80 s highlife. born in kumasi, the epicenter of ghanaian highlife, he came to berlin in the late 70 s - by then the uprising epicenter of burger-highlife - to work as a back-up-singer for pat thomas. after joining and leaving georg darko and running his own band -kantata-, he stopped releasing music in the early 90 s. now, philophon is proud to present new recordings of his soulful genius to the world of 2018. basa basa is a song in the classic -concert party- style, as it was played in the glorious 60 s. after a firey horn introduction lee takes over in that funny and entertaining manner typical for -concert party- music. buzz duncker joins lee s phrases with some gentle clarinet. highlife at its best! sahara akwantuo is anything but a classic: it s the start of a kind of philophonic highlife, labeled as kraut-life. ghanaian love of life meets german romantic melancholy. happy rhythms meet mysterious synth landscapes. eternal summertime and mangos are meeting a wet winter world and roast apples. kraut-life at its best!

formerly of france, now based in brazil, d3 elements returns with their second instalment of the beatz series, this time with jazz artist, bruno e, also hailing from brazil. bruno, who has been producing and performing since the late 90s, has worked with and remixed the likes of silhouette brown and gilles peterson, as well as releasing albums in his own right. this limited colour 10inch release features three versions of the track ventos do outono, (loosely translated to autumn winds). first up is drummer, composer and producer, pat van dyke, taking a break from composing the soundtrack to jerry seinfeld s comedians in cars getting coffee, with a breezy, laid back version of the original. featuring lush horns and flutes, along with vintage keyboards, the track urges us to get down, while straddling the boundaries of jazz and golden era hip-hop. still on the a side, it s bruno s turn, delivering a wonderful broken beat track. full of beautiful keys, strings and intricate rhythms, this track is reminiscent of the sound championed by kaidi tatham and nu era. flip over to the b side, and techno legend, kirk de giorgio takes us on a deep, futuristic ride. the track starts off with banging drums and a pulsating bass line, priming us for the cosmic pads and keys to come as the uk producer takes us on a journey to outer space and back. another quality release from bryan hervieus label, with three diverse versions of the same track, sure to appeal to a wide variety of tastes

the sound of studio one can be identified by the great singers that it cultivated along the many great songs that these singers released. but as studio 1 s dominance was slowly pulled away by the up and coming new breed of producers many of the artists would inevitably end up working for these new camps and so the songs and singers found a new audience. the reggae sound of the studio 1 would make a great combination and the man to pull this was together bunny lee.
