finally a fresh mcde is announced! new one from long time deep house/broken producer, pablo valentino... . its been four years since label co-founder pablo valentino became a daddy, and almost as old is the idea of him releasing a record on our imprint. so what makes more sense than to dedicate this record to hugo-joão, his son? on -my son s smile- we can hear a recording of hugo-joão s laughter over a mellow, summery house track that has been a big favorite of danilo over the years. with a little help from lyon producer patchworks, who played bass on the track, valentino pulls off one of his most sophisticated productions yet.

ortella, -the king of clubbing in lyon- is back with a new record label, merging all the projects they starts with his partner kaïs in one unique home, mad recordings. the first release on the platform is by the french man himself, served as an engaged manifesto, music is my shelter is a statement for all the house producers around the world, talking about the years of struggle, the faith in the music as an art and the joy to see one day dreams comes true. no surprise about the style, it s a pure garage house ep released in the old style way, with 3 versions of the same hit! original de luxe is a classic extended cut, club friendly, rich of flavor with flying and crying rhodes keyboards by the talented françois a. an anthem that transports you to a time where house music was a religion and clubs were churches. intro de luxe version is a shortened version, perfect to starts a night with the right mood without announcing too much, just enough to warm-up the dance floor with some emotion. dub de luxe is for more modern purists, putting aside for a short period the piano rolls and focusing on what ortella do the best, percussive drums with no compromise, made for releasing the energy level straight from dancers to the floor.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin’ records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” abigail adams, movin’s first output was ‘i’ve got the music’ by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up “jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin’ records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin’ records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve ‘lucky’ benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line “i love this place”. the ‘place of worship’ mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

shore is a vibraphonist and composer based in brooklyn. eamon harkin and justin carter from mister saturday night met him through nyc music institution, nublu, where he worked with the legendary jazz maestro butch morris and sex mob and tom waits drummer kenny wollesen. at the very first planetarium listening session, where eamon and justin blend records into live performances for people sprawled on the floor of a loft for six hours, one of justin s friends leaned over to him and asked, -what is this record? it s amazing.- it wasn t a record. it was shore, playing a hundred times in the corner of the room.

nick the record is one of the uk s most respected record dealers as well as a highly gifted dj of the underground disco, afro, soul, funk and house scene since the early 90s. for those who don t know he was 1/2 of soul ascendants that released some serious fela inspired house on nuphonic records in the late 90 s. he s currently enjoying a well deserved hype due to his heavy compilations on z records and various remixes. for his first release on gamm he goes all disco with two big reworks that are sure to get the heads moving. lifeforce theme is a tribute to the japan collective where he was resident dj for over 20 years. recordnition is a heavy percussion n philly disco burner that got that deep nyc disco feel all over it. nick definitely got the records.

mothball record continue to branch out from their italo-disco roots while staying true to a high quality of unique and obscure music. this latest release is a collection of 90s rave and hardcore inspired tracks with an unmistakable euphoric/melancholic dutch flavor from mysterious producer ruud jansen. no less than six strong and diverse tracks provide options for all occasions, from home listening to techno parade.

what happens when a house-music icon takes a small, talented bunch of musicians and mixes it with a savory blend of jazz, funk, dance, and soul music? you get a hearty serving of e.o.l. soulfrito, who make their single debut with upright love on vega records. e.o.l. soulfrito, led by musical director and conductor louie vega, is the condensed version of vega’s elements of life live-band project, which over its tenure has released three albums, won a grammy award in 2006 for best remixed recording, non-classical (curtis mayfield, superfly (louie vega eol mix), and performed for a globally-televised audience during the 2007 superbowl pre-game show. e.o.l. soulfrito’s name is a play on the popular latin-caribbean seasoning sofrito, which serves as a nod to vega’s own puerto rican heritage. earlier this year, the band played their first show at gramps in wynwood, miami during miami music week. upright love embodies the organic energy of e.o.l. soulfrito’s live performances. with a runtime of more than ten and a half minutes, it’s a steady groover that slowly blossoms into a blissful symphony of sprightly chords, jazzy bass, crisp percussion, pattering tambourine courtesy of kat ayala, and cindy mizelle’s vocal ad-lib serenades. easygoing yet refined, the single plays out like a summer afternoon jam session between vega and his friends: axel tosca on fender rhodes & synth upright bass, josh milan on synth jazz guitar & synth percussion. start swaying those hips and let the rhythm carry you into the sunset. i wanted to create a more condensed band, since the elements of life band has ten members, it’s always been a little difficult to do smaller venues. i also wanted to create music inspired by groups and artists like war, cymande, johnny hammond, and herbie hancock’s headhunters, but with the vega e.o.l. twist and style. i then created e.o.l. soulfrito with my studio musicians and rhythm section of elements of life and nuyorican soul. i want to take this band and perform in festivals and venues like the blue note, jazz café, ronnie scots, and bb kings. e.o.l. soulfrito will bring you future grooves with a tinge of the musical landscape from our rich past, and yes, there will be experimentation get ready for it.
