chicago flotation device follow up last year s brutal untitled acid excursions with a lighter but still pounding 12- on their self-titled, self-released imprint. higher is an extended peak-time acid jam, culled from hours of scissor-sythed outtake tapes and 3rd floor studio sessions, distilled into one bubbling, screeching banger. untitled 9 is a subtler take on the cfd sound. a clean 808-led, floating juno jam that drifts undetected in the dark waters off scarborough bay.

as the summer comes to a close, italojohnson releases its fourth release thereby urging party people to get in the dancing swing once again. on the long recorded side, you will find a progressive house track that can be hardly surpassed in any type in its directness. an unfussy arrangement, a straight oppressive subject and a low flying breakdown compose the a-stamped side. the sincerity of the first track of the flipside doesnt come short of any expectations. the concrete in-your-face-drumming, piano lessons and stabbing strings combined with the italojohnson charm becomes the (double a) aa-side. why? because italojohnson doesnt do b-sides. finally, the aa-2 track emotionally rounds up the release with italojohnsons trademark-sound in which all the brothers and sisters are invited to explore. make love!

that man is sabb, a tech house producer from kosovo who has eight plus years of experience of turning out infectious club tracks. he has done so on labels like noir and saved, and here serves up a great single that comes with remixes by dennis ferrer and detlef.

vinyl only, alex took his first musical steps by studying piano and guitar at the young age of 6. his fascination for the more outlandish, experimental side of each instrument corrupted his lessons and sent him down a modular synths and tape loop composition wormhole. years later alex resurfaced, got himself clean and, through connections made while spending time as a vocal audience member (and sometimes uninvited participant) at lyman woodard, phil ranelin, and other tribe- and motown-linked gigs in cass corridor during the mid-1970s, spent time as a session musician for earth wind and fire, chic, and prince. it was only toward the mid-90s he found himself enthralled by the techno and house sounds of detroit and chicago so he went into the woodshed and came out firing electronic salvos.

does the world need more acid? yes it does! the r-a-g trio aka dutch producers ma spaventi, g-string & aroy dee deliver three raw acid-jams with aroy on the couch working the mic. the lyrics of dreadfully nervous are based on a edgar allan poe story. . dreadfully nervous (aryd s acid mix) is a gurgling brew of squelchy acid with dark vocals and pinging cowbells pulling you in all directions. coarse claps and ever more wild synths encourage you to cut loose and make for another timeless cut. dreadfully stoned is more stripped back, with a rubbery arpeggiated synth the main hook over subtle, supple drums. those dark spoken word vocals are back again and the whole thing is freaky and unsettling as a result. last of all is the bright and glistening no soul with metal hits and claps and prickly acid all bursting out of dusty chicago drums. it s raw and sure to fire the synapses just like r-a-g productions always do.

it took me a couple of years get invited to christophe de groot’s (aka circadian rhythms) homebase, and a couple more years to dive into his sonic archive. but time tells and basic moves 02 is what came out. the two tracks were recorded at earguard studio in brussels around 1996, at a moment when his interest was moving away from club music towards other golden musical horizons. “frequency” is a macro tech-house track in mid tempo.
i’m super happy i could archive it on wax because we almost fucked up the master dat tape by blowing up the player during a marathon listening session at his place. we had to open the device, unroll the tape across his house (full of records) and fold it back into the mini dat cassette. after a few hours and twenty metres of tape, the problem was solved and the tracks archived: “a dose of authenticity at a time of post-counter-cultural stagnation”. “house speaker call” originated in proto-techno forms. christophe never sees techno as a type of music but as a process. as a producer, collector and deejay he always dives deep into authentic forms of electronic music. deg’s antic personality shines out in the middle of the harsh beat-driven electro/techno track like a hopeful melody passing by on its elliptic orbit. tune your cells into his vibrations and get ready for these two timeless club tracks.

respected house and techno artist dj deep returns to rekids with four murky productions this june. having been a staple in the parisian scene for over two decades, dj deep’s vast knowledge of electronic music is indisputable making his return to production in recent years all the more exciting, releasing on tresor, rekids, and his highly regarded label deeply rooted. ‘la grande brasserie’ features rolling kicks and a subtle rhythm as futuristic stabs ebb in and out of the mix, contrasting to the ‘2e service’ version which, whilst sharing a similar aesthetic, sounds bigger with its echoing synths and infectious claps. on the flip, both tracks are more dark and mellow in comparison, ‘paris heartbeat’ demonstrates twisted atmospherics and gloomy elements, whilst the intricate and mesmerising ‘chord kids’ is exemplary of dj deep’s ability to craft imaginative left-of-centre cuts.

2017 reissue , love what you feel returns with a new release by chicago native and half of africans with mainframes (mathematics recordings/creme organization), noleian reusse! the tracks on this record mostly eschew an easy four-on-the-floor rhythm in favor of raw, jacking beats. using an all-hardware set-up, noleian banged out all new tunes especially for this five track ep. the machine funk runs wild from the jumpoff, sometimes exotic, sometimes abstract, and sometimes banging, but never typical. the cuts on this record are versatile enough to fit into both techno and house sets, and there is even a dubstep-esque track that will have crossover appeal!

a bonafide legend of chicago house and techno, dj skull has done the business since the early days on all manner of labels, and he s still on it now. shoring up at mentha for this no-nonsense four tracker, skull is on especially deep form here as he heads inwards with the subtle shuffle of -accent- and the insistent melodic mantras of -on the double-. the story is no different on the b side, although -rythmic- sports a more sprightly set of drums in amongst the strafing synth lines before -the unknown land- turns out one of the more eerie jack tracks of our time.
