in search of the sublime, contemporary electronic musician steve hauschildt has designed grids and panoramas of sound across multiple releases through the rise and dissolution of his former band, emeralds, an american touchstone of 2000s home-recorded psychedelic noise music. consistent with his solo work is hauschildt’s ability to coil his craft in precise, varied, and distinctly physical forms. gently spinning arpeggios converse with post-industrial decay. sonic fibers sway like pendulums from static melancholy to motorik bliss. dissolvi, the artist’s first full-length with ghostly international, engages sublimation from an ontological perspective: by dissociating the self. hauschildt steps out from the singular path, for the first time in a traditional studio, to compose and arrange contributions from friends. as a result, his most collaborative work to date extends a vast, vibrating framework in which to consider the state of being. the vinyl release includes a download code.

nexus is the first collaborative record by yes-guitarist steve howe and his son - the late great virgil howe (little barrie, fsols amorphous androgynous). an instrumental, cinematic record fusing brilliant guitar play, wonderful keys and dynamic, moody grooves.

the us producer recently joined the ranks of talent residing in berlin and its evident the european techno capital is having a subtle sway on his sound on the basis of this apotheke ep, most notably the title track. theres a sense of driving momentum wedged deep in the sonic dna of this track, complemented well by a low slung bassline and airy synth melodies. elsewhere huertas sometime studio sparring partner urulu adds some percussive flex to the pulsating swing set, whilst kingsleys groove swerves the sound back towards deeper house and is apparently named in honour of a friends cat. glenn astro of the tartelet crew ends the release with a wonderfully bumping take on the track.

the 3rd instalment in the newington series comes from la born, berlin based steve huerta who s signature style harkens back to house musics roots while maintaining a deep, modern sheen. the ep off the plate is a varied affair with different house music moods and feelings to be had. the lead track off the plate is a dance floor monster with the appropriate rave stabs to boot. safe is a slightly more laidback affair with a groove to sway your hips to. stepney shuffle pays homage to another london district, bring a distinct jack to proceedings. london based silk 86 take on remix duties, with their own take on silk.

the los angeles based steve huerta popped up on the sccucci manucci radar via his releases on the formidable amadeus records and dirt crew recordings, we tracked his progress and liked what we heard. a couple of months back we handed over the keys to mr. manuccis penthouse apartment and sl 230 pagoda to the young angeleno, and in-between being fitted for smoking jackets and hand made brogues he managed to get some productions complete with the results pressed up for the fifth release on manuccis mistress.

fresh off their recent single on avotre, the california duo of yooj and steve huerta return in fine form, this time with their retrofit debut. the pairs creative partnership began back during their final year of university where they discovered a shared affinity for a sound quite divergent from the preferences of their edm addled peers.

with yooj and steve huerta delivering another deep track for the dancefloors avotre continue strengthen their profile. darius syrossian on the remix duty for make me bad, delivers the much loved and very successful signature sound of the leeds producer.

we are at the end of 2011 and so it is time for a record label to find a great final for the music year 2011. after four successful releases, mimique looks back to a fantastic start and presents music from his heads and calls all of it mimique ep. andy smith, steve haze, michel laro and the frenchimport mozaic do their share and give this ep a wide fan of music which represent the label. you could call it mimique style. many tastes will be satisfied with this release and will give a sweat appetite for the next mimique music year 2012.

the title >tragedy & geometry< is an ambiguous but subtle reference to melpomene (muse of tragedy) & polyhymnia (muse of geometry), or more specifically the collision/overlap of what they invoke. the opening track is also a direct reference to >polyhymnia, muse of eloquence<, the painting by the french artist charles meynier on display at the cleveland museum of art.
the album is a treatise on the idea that technology is becoming more disposable as its becoming more accessible, and how this circumstance has a more evident/direct effect on the interpersonal, i.e. relations, with others in the so-called age of information.
what results is a gorgeous, flowing, floating world of post-kosmische musik, steve hauschildts first widely available release, and his first major statement as a solo artist.
