alex paterson’s longstanding electronic titans the orb present the new album ‘no sounds are out of bounds’, which as the title suggests finds them embracing an anything-goes new approach to creative freedom. refreshing and reinventing the predominantly two-man set up with thomas fehlmann on the prior two albums (‘moonbuilding 2703 ad’ and ‘cow / chill out world!’), ‘no sounds…’ is intentionally an ensemble piece, featuring a large cast of big names, cult heroes, rising talent and fresh newcomers. alex paterson, thomas fehlmann, youth, roger eno, hollie cook and guy pratt take star turns, as does heroic bassist jah wobble, who returns to the fold following the bassbin-bullying anthem ‘blue room’. additional supporting roles come from gaudi, roney fm and michael rendall, plus vocalists brother culture, mary pearce, emma gillespie, rianna, and andy cain – who’s best known for voicing mark ernestus and moritz von oswald’s deep house gems ‘i’m your brother’ and ‘a new day’. the double vinyl release includesd a download code.

the single will be released on the same day as the mix cd “the orb chronicles” (20 years shitkatapult) to celebrate the berlin label that debuted artists like t.raumschmiere, apparat or phon.o. the single carries catalogue number 165 and features the kick off mix-track on b-side and an exclusive club track by the orb on a side.

we continue the orb’s sin in space remix ep series with a third volume focussing on the duo’s latest full-length, the highly acclaimed cow / chill out, world! (kompakt 354 cd 134). the spontaneous, organic vibe and sample artistry of the album is reflected in three distinct reworks from highly respected kompakt mainstays the field, dave dk and jÖrg burger - all of them informed with surprising twists and displaying a clear lineage to the source material. the field’s remix of 9 elms over river eno takes the original s percussive part and unfolds it to a swirling, tropical epic that alludes as much to the orb s multifaceted sound collages as it does to the hypnotic, looping flow of the field s own output. meanwhile, dave dk turns in a club-friendly revamp of 4am exhale with the fittingly titled accellerator mix, indulging in exquisitely lyrical glitches and the magic of the straight bassdrum. jÖrg burger takes a shot at the beatless 5th dimensions with the excellent dschungeloper mix - its loose pop jam feeling and flirty shuffle rhythm recall burger’s lush lounge core efforts under his triola monicker.

dark beat is a new label from glasgow, set up to promote its own take on deep, dark atmospherical techno.
after the success of their digital releases this is our first dark beat remixes vinyl which has cuts from the very popular omen and untamed eps from label bosses deepbass & roman toletski.
on the a side we have oddity with a massive remix from mark broom. his remix of oddity is a no nonsense stripped back techno affair with a ripping synth line, the track teases you with a number off small drops before the massive atmospheric breakdown which would bring carnage on any dance floor.
on the b side we have the orb theory with a remix from edit select who seems to be able to to no wrong with his string of releases on his self named label edit select records. his remix explores the realms of atmospherical techno and has a straight up tribal feel about it, this track has been creating quite a fuss at berlins berghain during the early hours. the track has a percussive drive with rolling snares and a beautiful synth line that rises and fades throughout the track.
