earlier in 2017 nathan fake released his keenly anticipated fourth album “providence” to rapturous acclaim. fact hailed it as “career defining… one of the best electronic albums you’ll hear in 2017” and dj mag made it their “album of the month”. on this follow-up ep, fake delivers a brand new track ‘bosky’: “a spiky, but warm and pretty raw roland/boss analord-inspired studio jam with synth autoharp improvisation”, calls on tessela and truss (xl, r&s, perc trax, poly kicks) aka overmono and huerco s. (proibito, software) to rework album highlight ‘degreelessness’ (feat. prurient) and additionally showcases the talents of polish composer and multi-instrumentalist olga wojciechowska who submits a stunning modern classical interpretation of ‘hoursdaysmonthsseasons’.

der britische elektronikguru nathan fake veröffentlicht seine erste ep auf ninja tune! nach dem durchbruch mit seiner 2004er ep the sky was pink auf james holdens label border community sowie einigen weiteren veröffentlichungen auf traum schallplatten und seinem eigenen label cambria instruments, ist er jetzt mit degreelessness feat. prurient / now we know ep zurück. die a-seite, eine kollaboration mit dem new yorker dj und produzenten prurient alias vatican shadow, welcher seinerseits das respektiere label hospital productions führt, ist gleichzeitig der erste song seines kommenden albums. die b-seite now we know wurde 2010 an nur einem nachmittag in london aufgenommen und ist ein traditioneller house-track, der, ausgestattet mit simplen casio keyboard drums und einem fm synthesizer, auf kassette aufgenommen wurde.

nathan fake and wesley matsell are both producers best known for their releases on border community - nathan fake has been putting out psychedelic permutations on dance music since 2003 for the label, while matsell recently released the blissful total order of being ep for them earlier in 2014. cambria instruments is a new label venture from the pair, and for the first release they have teamed up for a split 12- of kaleidoscopic electronic sounds. nathan fake s contribution black drift starts things off, an initially inauspicious tripping beat gathering momentum and morphing into a far-out piece of fuzzy house underpinned by sunken low-end rumbles. it s the kind of brilliantly wide-eyed track we have come to expect from the producer. over on the flip, wesley matsell s bismuth is a more shadowy, moody affair, a tight techno rhythm holding things together while synths spin wildly. a highly expressive, lysergic trip and one of his finest productions to date. all in all, you couldn t hope for a stronger start from a new label.

first up is lone, recent album recruit to the re-animated r&s, who takes the fake original and makes it very much his own, the wistful strains of >paean< slotting seamlessly into lones seductive wobbly, wonky, early nineties retro-futurist world view, to extremely playable effect. fresh from his own new lonely at the top album duty, lukids rework is a more radically transformative affair, sprinkling his trademark bass heavy hypnotic drum mantras with a suitably warped smattering of fakes mystical twinkles. and as a final a2 bonus, fakes own contemplative coda mix seeks to wring every last drop of ambient goodness out of his utopian original.
limited to 500 copies, this ultra-collectable 10 inch vinyl release comes as a perfectly timed companion to nathans impending tour support duties in the company of forefathers of uk electronica and fake childhood heroes orbital.
