ahead of the release of honey dijons upcoming remix album xtra, maurice fulton, ashley beedle, derrick carter and horse meat disco step up to remix records from honeys debut full-length work‘the best of both worlds. on the a-side is honey dijon featuring joi cardwell state of confusion, maurice fulton giving it a new jersey-esque lilt and allowing jois voice to resonate. next up ashley beedle ups the tempo and the energy on his mix of burn, honeys collaboration with tim k featuring jason walker. derrick carter cranks the pressure on catch the beat, crunching out the bassline for an extended industrial backdrop to cakes da killas rap vocals. in stark contrast, the final b-side is a horse meat disco mix of honey and tim ks cover of aquarian dream, look ahead featuring the voice of sam sparro. with all the warmth of a sunny afternoon in the city, the london collective funk the cover all the way up, adding horn blasts for more of a house strut. giving a glimpse of whats to come from the full-length xtra, this is the ultimate vinyl fix from honey and friends to tide you over.

in october 2017 honey dijon was commissioned to take part in the smirnoff were open campaign, aiming to promote inclusive night time culture and celebrate nightlifes ability to transcend gender boundaries and prejudice. as well as appearing in the were open tv commercial, honey was asked to record her take on the initiative’s ethos for creating positive change, making dance music culture a more open-minded and socially inclusive space. what resulted was a rework of ‘queen of disco’ sylvester’s ‘stars’ featuring vocals by singer-songwriter sam sparro, who she collaborated with previously on her album the best of both worlds. now being released on limited edition blue vinyl via classic music company, with breathtaking artwork from assume vivid astro focus who also supplied cover artwork for the album, the entire proceeds from the release will be donated to lgbt foundation. created with parts recorded especially for the were open advert,stars (disco version), produced with the help of classic head luke solomon and studio partner lance desardi, pops sylvester’s spangled party-starter directly into 2018. previously made available as a free download to coincide with the launch of the campaign, the cosmic energy dub, underlining honey’s acidic but sweet production, is followed by two mixes by one of her favourite producers of the moment and fellow chicagoan, cratebug. his nova remix references the classic disco elements of the original, while the supernova remix - exclusive to vinyl - goes fully intergalactic with a glorious squelching extended mix. paying lip service to the legacy of a truly gender-redefining figure whose music is nothing but inclusive and empowering, honey dijon and classic prove the power of music to inspire positive change in the dance music communities with this stars release.

honey dijon has been part of the classic dna since day dot. a long-time friend to both derrick carter and luke solomon, honey has produced, remixed, dj’d and partied for and with classic for many years. although previously compiling a compilation for classic she has surprisingly never had her own release on the label. 2015 see’s honey releasing two separate eps on classic with both ‘’thundah’ and ‘burn’ being inspired by the classic 90’s nyc house music sound and produced in homage to honey’s friend frankie knuckles. the ep’s come backed with remixes from hnny, luke solomon, terrence parker and mark brydon all adding their own distinct flavour to honey’s concoctions. this exclusive double header vinyl ep release gives just a taste of what to expect

following a big ep from richy ahmed, play it say it returns with a talented collaboration in the form of mark fanciulli and rob cockerton, with honey dijon on the remix. mark fanciulli has carved out his own sound that takes the best of house and techno, turning in his own infectious releases on the likes of joris voorn’s rejected, as well as the legendary planet e and intec. long time friend and collaborator rob cockerton joins fanciulli, who’s own credits lead to labels including suara and snatch!, and together the duo cook up a storm here. ‘slave to the rave’ is the fantastic opening cut and is a real party starter with an old school feel. acid stabs bring raw energy alongside chattery claps straight from chicago in the 80’s, whilst the whole production is bolstered by slick drum programming that won’t fail to work crowds into a frenzy. the excellent ’10 channels of bliss’ is equally massive, with robust kick drums down low and huge incendiary hi-hats up top. swaying claps and rolling bass all help lure you in and shape shifting synths bring all that important looseness and colour. next up, classic music company artist and new york tastemaker honey dijon steps up to remix ‘slave to the rave’. her version is dark and intense, with an unbridled sense of frantic raves bottled up in the train-track grooves and the cleverly filtered vocals, this is a powerful ep of high class, high impact dance music.
