lovefingers heard the atmospherian years ago on milk beach settlers, a promo-only mix cd comprised solely of australian artists, mixed and released by seminal melbourne dj duo and good friends hey convict! (tamas jones & jason evans). tamas explained that warp factor 9 was a one-off project by john and russell kilby of esoteric post-rock bands the crystal set and bhagavad guitars respectively, and who are brothers of steve kilby (frontman of the church, a prolific australian band we’ve adored since adolescence). we had an immediate epiphany and this project was set into motion

nancy azzurro comes out of nowhere. well, that’s not entirely true—lovefingers met her about 10 years ago on the beach near her home on the island of sardinia—but in terms of our musical orbit, she is a very private artist, creating only the purest music, straight from the heart. these three gorgeous songs were produced during her young adulthood and would become secret weapons for a handful of djs she’d meet over the following years. still standing the test of time today, they’re now finally seeing a proper release. side-a’s grace invites us into nancy’s world where disco and house collide—the live drums, percussion and bassline hold down a blanket of synth strings and wah-wahs. halfway through this epic enters a piano hook of the highest order, an emotional rush that brings together everything we love on the dancefloor, guaranteed to induce goosebumps. on side-b, she rounds out the release with the dreamlike, percussive and yugo-tinged illustrations & the large, and closes with the title track teen bee, a loopy cowbell-driven dive into the deep, filled with luscious sweeping chords and meandering keys. the esp institute is honoured to close out 2016 (one seriously heavy year) with such a beautiful and cohesive release. thank you and goodnight.

from the discos capablanca guys a new project! los massieras are a reality only in your 70s boogie state of mind! this re-edit project formed by two berliner djs aims to bring a fresh approach to the art of bastardization. boogity boogity boogity is their first ep, which also launches the new (velvet) underground label bananamania. each track is quite different, from the floor-oriented boogie title track, to the mutant disco of >bananamania<, to the psychedelic delirium that is >shroom heaven<, which has already gained instant fans such as lovefingers.

prepare to enter the sombrero galaxy. journey to the centre of the sun, the debut release from lovefingers highly anticipated imprint esp institute, is a collaborative effort from londoner jonny nash (discosession) and dutchman tako reyenga. the two met years ago whilst jonny was working and living in tokyo and tako made his way over to dj. around the same time, lovefingers linked up with these two and a musical family had formed. that being told, its only natural for sombrero galaxy to find its home and represent the face of the esp insitute. journey to the centre of the sun is a dive into a moody, visceral and ethereal headspace brought to life through shimmering synthesizers, swirling guitars and a chugging bassline coupled with live percussion, clearly setting the bar higher than the bulk of contemporary electronic music. on the b side, the stallions (lovefingers and lee douglas) reinterpret the track with optimism, nicely complimenting the original with a light and cloudy yet driving house version. this is the music of dreams, keep an eye on esp institute in this new decade.

nobody cared was recorded by brendan lynch in london, whilst stallions suite was recorded in ny by lovefingers and lee douglas, the stallions is douglas and lovefingers joint alias. both tracks were recorded earlier this year.

there is a long-standing love affair between dj harvey and pikes, ibiza. as well as coming back for his third consecutive Ômercury risingÕ residency, the legendary ÔdjsÕ dj has been appointed Ôcultural attachˇÕ for pikes, meaning his magic touch and feel-good presence will create even more special moments at pikes this summer, including the launch of new label, pikes records.
in 2015 dj harvey made his hugely anticipated return to ibiza and made pikes his home for his mercury rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real ibiza, the incredible history of pikes and a genuine love for music. the love, the dancing, the music and the balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by dj harvey has seen mercury rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade.
