born and raised in algiers, dj and producer f.d.m processes his musical and cultural roots on his first release as a solo artist. “it’s a personal journey through time and memories”, f.d.m explains. on the 5-track ep titled “yalil” the dj mixes nineties acid sounds with african rhythms and arabic elements. he also conveys his love for disco and funk as in“papasunik”, a powerful energetic track which is indeed dedicated to his first born music-loving son. on the deep house track “deep mind” f.d.m collaborates with leipzig-based producer and artist duktus. the deep melodic “la nuit” closes the ep and f.d.m’s journey through the night
broken district is a new label launched by the creative minds of jus jam, momla and antwan. the project is born with the idea of exploring alternative music styles that blend the influences of the label s creators, including jazz, house-music, hip-hop, funk, soul, and more experimental sounds. in order to give a global overview of the label s territory, broken district kicks-off with a series of va eps, here delivering its second volume.
fans of the berlin based nils frahm are by now familiar with his beguiling live shows where more often than not fellow touring artists are encouraged to join frahm on stage – the likes of rachel grimes, rob lowe of balmorhea as well as label colleagues peter broderick and Ólafur arnalds have all obliged with fascinating results. it will come as no surprise then that nils frahm, an accomplished composer and producer who signed to erased tapes in 2009, has extended his collaborative live musings to encompass the recording studio, working for the first time with noted cellist and fellow berliner anne müller to produce 7fingers.
with their first collective release frahm and müller have built a world where modern classical and electronica collide creating an intoxicating and delicious collection of songs. primarily a pianist nils frahm provides evidence with 7fingers that he can effortlessly turn electric throwing in loops, samples and glitches to accompany and showcase müller on cello. anne müller, a renowned musician noted for her work with the wolf-ferrari-ensemble, phillip boa and recent tours with agnes obel, proves an amp musical partner for frahm.

after their first baby steps with two digital releases, the leipzig based label old new records is finally making its leap to the stairs made of vinyl. each artist is involved by heart, willing to contribute something for the higher goal, called good music. in the end they forged a record of different styles, like house, deephouse, nufunk or beatz. so welcome to the musical soap opera about a circle of friends and their reflection of musical taste – welcome to old new records.
by now the leipzig based overdubclub got fixed in the heads of instrumental music lovers in germany outside the city boundaries. the concept and the unique sound of a beatmaker roundtable which focuses not just on each participants productions, but also on the jam character, shows through diversity and individuality what is possible when making music collaboratively.
