spring theory alumni sage caswell returns to the san francisco-based label to deliver his debut album hoop earring. it s an enigmatic record that comes from the producer s own movement through personal transformation. it follows 2015’s sleep quarters , caswell s introspective label debut, and offers 10 tracks spread out across two 12-s. hoop earring is heavily informed by surrealist visions and archetypal images from caswell’s past that have crystallized within the context of this longplay album. hoop earring successfully paints images with broad brushstrokes and allegorical song titles that allows one to fill in fine details of a landscape built within the framework ten songs. “ray of light 95’” alludes to a moment in time that smartly places you alongside an adolescent caswell while songs like “here we guard upon the soul” land locks squarely in the middle with a poignant, nail-on-the-head statement. -zora scales (step 1)- provides a focal reference to the fantasy world that this album might be the soundtrack to.

the 5th offering of the label comes from la-based producer sage caswell. sleep quarters ep evokes the paradoxically rushed-yet-laidback duality of his hometown, it s a four-track release equally split between music for the dancefloor and music for dreaming. while the first two tracks strive to balance ambience and dancefloor appeal, the b-side is a total departure into ambient space, with immersive walls of sound and waves of delay

after playing some of sage caswells exclusive tracks as part of their live set, it only seemed right for brooklyn trio archie pelago to welcome sage to the family. it all started with ap including *buyerside* in their resident advisor mix, which ended up getting remixed by them for this very release, making sure that their personal touch is left on every archie pelago music record.

absence seizure marks its tenth release this september, a split package comprising one original from co-founder abe duque and two from label-founder matuss. since its launch back in 2015 the new york city based absence seizure imprint, launched by abe duque and matuss has been a platform for the latters original material and across the past nine releases and picked up support from the likes of young male, sage caswell, dorian paic and eduardo de la calle amongst others. here though we see co-founder abe duque join the part to mark the labels tenth vinyl release alongside label regular julia matuss. matuss steps up with crashing hard a murky, stripped-back number fuelled by choppy bass stabs, minimal percussive bleeps and airy atmospherics . next on the package is abe duques 11-27-2016, a typically raw affair from the new york techno veteran fuelled by squelching 303 lines, robust analogue drums and dreamy arpeggios. the b side features matuss sisabuc fresh closes out the package, stripping things back even further to minute, shuffled percussion, stuttering ethereal chords and permeating sub hits which all flow in unison across its ten minute duration.

waze & oddyseys w&o streetracks imprint pulls together the likes of eliphino, ejeca, citizen and xxxy for its first (unmixed) compilation released this winter, w&o streettracks vol 1. having clocked up eight releases on street tracks, its the ideal time to throw down a milestone and document the sound of the label in one package and w&o street tracks does so with panache. the result of waze & oddysseys plunge into their address book is a 12 track compilation that neatly reflects modern house music. ejeca, citizen and w&o themselves sit alongside newcomers like mediman and sage caswell while the emergent talents of new jack city and eliphino make for a nicely profiled piece of work

cromie s bubbling, spacious house sound first drew critical acclaim last year on the sold out 12- vines / pyrex (peach001), a collaboration with fellow la producer sage caswell. now, peach is thrilled to present cromies solo debut ep inner knows, a revved up set of idiosyncratic dancefloor weapons. how to stop a bulldozer, a rotating helix of synth stabs, warped vocals and low-end torque warrants it s epic title. elsewhere, flan functions like a potent concentrate of 22nd century funk. inner knows kicks off side b with a swirling late night house jam that flirts with the deeper corners of the genre. another fixture in la s electronic scene, suzanne kraft (running back, esp institute, pharoahs) closes out the record with a cubist reading of flan. on his solo debut, cromie s creative depth and attention to detail belies his freshness to the game. regular sets at las club called rhonda and various underground happenings in the sprawling southland have taught him some valuable lessons. if he can deliver this many distinct sounds on a single record, we cant wait to hear what’s next.
