udacha continues to excel in its function as a beam of light shining into the russian underground with this wonderful album of grainy leftfield delights from s a d. the duo of vasily stepanov and vlad dobrovolski reportedly find their unique sound by experimenting with cassette manipulation, using magnets to alter their source material before sticking everything together in a hazy, wide-reaching whole. you can tangibly sense the myriad places these sounds originally came from before melding into a thoroughly psychedelic new form on this most engrossing of listens. as ever, that udacha penchant for otherworldly tones shines through plenty on super sounds ii, making for a natural addition to the labels ever-increasing oeuvre.

hanagasumi records presents the fifth release, this time you will hear multi-genre electronic music in compilation format from wonderful artists who have their own unique and inimitable musical vision. many of the artists previously released on labels such as udacha, rough house rosie, kimochi, runout, resonance, faktura.

the latest offering from 12th isle collects a variety of recordings from vasily stepanov and vlad dobrovolski as part of their on-going s a d project (udacha/muscut).

kiev based label muscut opens 2018 with an lp from st. petersburg musician eugenii fadeev (flaty). raising the attention of the musical community with his work for the 12th isle and gost zvuk labels as aem rhythm cascade, he s also recently released on udacha and his own label anwo as dada ques. in addition to the aforementioned, flaty also adopts such aliases as ocurob and wrong water.

having already made a strong connection with the ever-excellent udacha label, russian duo gamayun now take their talents to hesperian sound division to unfurl more of their delicate, richly musical creations. -golden ratio- leads in on stunning jazz piano refrains, edging threads of percussion into the mix with poise that sets gamayun apart from the rest of the crowd. -ascension- takes things in a more cosmic direction, all swooping and swooning synth lines beamed in from a distant star. -untitled- has a more lazy, blues-minded attitude, while -uvolnenie- edges a little more techno influence into the mix, but truly this is space-age music played by musicians with genuine chops.

previously spotted on udacha and sharing an excellent lp with a.e.m., dices has already demonstrated a knack for wonderfully delicate ambient compositions and off-kilter 4/4, and the goods just keep on coming via this stunning 12- for rough house rosie offshoot pandora. -part 1- is a wonderful opening gambit powered by lightly pattering percussion, while -part 7- enlists the help of nick ossia to float off into the swirliest of liquid synth baths. ossia is also on hand to help with the more abstract sonic shapes of -part 5-, while -part 3- provides a wonderfully energised, drum-rich ending to a truly standout ep.

recorded in st. petersburg over the course of 2015, this first release on glasgow based imprint 12th isleis a collaborative effort between dices & À,Ý,Ì, Ð,è,ò,ì,-Ê,à,ñ,ê,à,ä, (aka flaty/dada ques), affiliates of the udacha and gost zvuk record labels. titled Ì,û,ñ,ë,å,ï,î,ò,î,ê, (thoughtstream), the lp eschews trend in favour of meaningful sonic discovery, and in doing so offers as much to the adventurous dj as it does the attentive home listener. side a encompasses ambient synth textures reminiscent of 70s-era library music, established upon rhythms that evoke turn of the century detroit house. at once melancholic and playfully optimistic, the six tracks range from rhythmic experiments to sketch-like beatless vignettes. the flip side sets off in a slightly darker tone that is succeeded with pace and persistence in the drum patterns and winding arpeggiated bassline of caleidoscope. alongside the heavily swung hologram, these tracks are very club considerate a function that in no way offsets the records assured narrative purpose. across both a and b the music maintains this singular intent, channelling aspects of early sequence-based electronics and vintage space rock around a diverse and playful compendium of rhythms. comes with screen-printed sleeve, labels and insert.

repress , leleka and udacha artist dices resurfaces on split-based label fields & forests, overseeing their debut release which introduces untitled gear, a collection of artistically minded individuals from the st petersburg area. encompassing musicians, producers, photographers and singers, untitled gear sound like quite the sprawling group but there s a sense of cohesion and tightness to the four tracks here. falling deftly into the pocket of jazz influenced house that vakula has helped pioneer, untitled gear sound best when vocalists are employed, see the stupendously cosmic throb of *nothing is over* and the sultry swagger of *flying high*. more please fields & forests.

after a successful debut release with untitled gear, croatian label continues their journey through fields and forests. still exploring the russian federation, only this time they hired udacha s honcho and main protagonist a5. record kicks off with fantasy. a dreamy kalimba piece which eventually evolves into a deep house track and could be described as a soundtrack from your latest dream while raw abstractionism doesnt disappoint its name. on the flip side we are introduced to the afro banger torri wowo which feels almost like driving through safari on a truck. acoustic cut calms things down and brings us to an end with a clear message.
