sparky, raw and untiringly nuanced, dugnad rec continue their bold additions to the world of jazz. as expected from the tore ljøkelsøy kvartett, this jam-packed album arrives in one compositionally refined and mature expression. the work is filled with a playful and often cheeky vitality, yet remains underscored by a professorial consistency that marks it with the unmistakable stamp of intellect and class. one should expect nothing less.

celebrating our 20th release, glasgows dave clark returns to optimo trax as sparky. he was responsible for the third release on the label as luma which featured the club smash -john broadwood- and recently had another big club hit with signals- on numbers. we are delighted to welcome him back in what is a contunuation of a relationship that stretches back further than we care to remember. all four tracks here are certified dancefloor winners, from the reach for the lasers, kickless things fall apart through the synth rhapsodies of black swan and my prophet, climaxing in the jacking seven daggers. all killer, no filler is often a trite cliche in these blurbs but is entirely true in the case of this ep.

gdm (glaswegian dance music) pioneer - sparky (aka dave clark) is back on numbers. having spent the last year on lockdown in his luxurious garden studio we have finally managed to wrestle two tracks out of his ageing hands. signals is an all-new track, first heard on dave’s essential mix for bbc radio 1 (aired as part of jackmaster s made in glasgow), and now in the sets of ben ufo and jd twitch. signals is classic sparky, nailing that sweet spot between the proto-techno sounds of british synth pop and the dancefloor nous of the motor city. the flip is a snarling metal-bashing beast called tigress which comes direct from his archives. we ve been on at him to release this one for almost a decade and after playing a 192 mp3 at a pretty boisterous numbers x optimo party last summer, sparky finally relented. one day we ll convince sparky to let us release all the music sitting in his vaults but for now here are two gems from a man whose music has played a pivotal role in the history of numbers.

two brand new remixes of sparkys eternal numbers anthem ‘portland’ by tuff city kids (gerd janson & phillip lauer). having requested the parts of the original track, the intrepid duo travelled back in time to the year 1991, set up their samplers and got busy with the breakbeats and euphoric synth pads.

overview in the 1980s, as hip hop caught fire around new york, sparky d was coming up in the van dyke projects in brownsville brooklyn. she would go on to be one of the first recorded solo female rappers and rise to hip hop stardom. early in her career she was a pivotal player in what came to be known as the roxanne wars. it all kicked off with utfo s roxanne roxxane followed by roxanne shante s debut roxanne s revenge and then a salvo back at shante with utfo and a female mc known as the real roxanne. sparky d then started a trend that ran for what some say was over a hundred assorted answer records and nearly the rest of the decade by jumping into the roxanne trend with sparky s turn (roxanne, you re through). massive spins and sales throughout the city followed. the success of the cut lead to another handful of 12 releases, and this release, her proper full length debut this is sparky ds world,- produced by her boyfriend and old school legend spyder d. though the record didn t take off to the extent that her label mates boogie down productions found with criminal minded....well, what ever did take off like criminal minded. to this day the release serves as a testament to the power of one of hip hop s first female mcs, after all, this is sparky d s world. traffic entertainment group in partnership with b-boy records is proud to release this extended version of the album, out of print in any format for over 14 years. housed in a handsome 6 panel digipak featuring extended artwork and audio including all the 12-cuts, mixes and instrumentals from sparkys classic -throwdown- and -i can t stop- vinyl singles.

kölns bester rapper veedel kaztro hat es wieder getan: am 31.03.17 erscheint der dritte teil seiner büdchen-trilogie. -büdchen tape iii- zeigt einen hörbar gereiften -veezy-, was delivery und flow, aber auch themen und inhalte angeht: -coach veezy- ist ein -hund ohne leine-, der -respek- einfordert. der besorgten -almans- und ihrer -angst- den spiegel vorhält und allen rassisten, sexisten und afd-wählern ein -lms 2017- entgegen schmettert. dank abgeschlossenem -flermanistik--studium gibt es zwar jeden tag nur -falalel-, doch das tut seiner -veezyness- keinen abbruch. musikalisch baut veedel kaztro brücken. knarzige samples werden mit der 808 tiefergelegt. veezy nimmt seine boom bap-wurzeln mit in die trap, denn scheuklappen kennt er auch hier nicht. produziert haben yourz, spexo, dufsen, shawn the savage kid, kevoe west und true lyes. aufgenommen und gemischt wurde von und bei dienst&schulter, die ebenfalls mit zwei beats auf dem album vertreten sind. in sachen features hält veedel k es lokal und teilt sich das mic mit sparky, tami und simon grohé.

side a starts with aster ix, a track with simple percussion and a hard, yet smooth, bassline. the continuous pad and the occasionally sparky chords make aster ix the perfect combination for an 8-minute track designed to keep you up. this 12-minute vinyl flaunts on the same side twisted , which takes the darker side of the producer one step further. the dark track, twisted , boldly surprises you with the trippy sequences of its repetitive vocals. side b is represented by the most complex track of the ep: organik -- a track playing with a natural groove as well as acoustic-based elements. it s a 15-minute journey with spacey and atmospheric-drone sounds that takes you far away while listening.

egyptian hip hop first emerged back in 2009 as four sparky 17-year-olds from manchester with an uncanny knack for lush, scruffy melodies and raucous tales of guitar lessons from johnny marr. their debut ep >some reptiles grew wings<, produced by warps hudson mohawke, featured a clutch of delectably angular pop songs and affirmed their singular sense of rhythm.

with a handful of sparky releases, wotnot music are fast becoming a label with an excellent reputation for creating experimental electronic music. their next release is from label co-owner charo and is a sparse yet melodic little number that darts about with whimsical charm.
