wiederveröffentlichung von mobys fünftem studio-album als doppel-lp-set mit 180g schwerem vinyl. ursprünglich 1999 veröffentlicht, wurde es zum erfolgreichsten indie-album des jahres und in über 20 ländern mit platin ausgezeichnet. mit -play- änderte moby seine arbeitsweise ein weiteres mal. er nahm samples aus folk und gospel - viele davon entstammen aus dem archiv von alan lomax - und verbindet diese mit seinen elektronischen klanglandschaften. dabei schneidet er aus den samples schleifen, die er endlos wiederholt: bessie jones -sometimes- wird in -honey- über 20 mal wiederholt und so entfaltet er den hypnotischen sog, der diesen song zum hit machte. bei erscheinen wendeten sich viele moby-fans, die ein techno-album erwartet hatten, ab und das album schaffte es nicht bedeutend in den charts aufzutauchen. es sollte über zehn monate dauern, bis sich das blatt wendete und das album sich doch noch zum absoluten hit mauserte. mit 9 (!) single-auskopplungen und unzähligen lizensierungen an tv-shows, filme und werbespots entwickelte sich das album zum dauerbrenner und hat bis heute weit über 12 millionen einheiten abgesetzt.

trek 2013 was another exceptional year for will sauls ever-consistent, no-nonsense aus music imprint. as well as records from the increasingly familiar family fold - dusky, bicep, midland, sei a, leon vynehall - a new batch of producers stepped in as the label welcomed debuts from both huxley and glimpse, along with the return of fellow west country resident, komon (kieren lomax)

after previous remixes for sideshow and mymy on aus music in 2009, bristol-based kieren lomax (aka komon) will return to will sauls respected imprint this july with, walk the walk. with his debut lp, released last year on apple pips, komon asserted himself as a producer capable of shapeshifting through a variety of soundscapes.

the close of the disco-era was far from the end of patrick adams career. in the 1980s he would lend his creative genius to such notable acts as salt n pepa, keith sweat and carol lynn townes. in the 1990s he helmed recordings by eric b. & rakim, paul lekakis and morris day. but the focus here is on the years he spent with peter brown and p&p. years where he was at his creative zenith as an arranger, composer, and performer. this is patrick adams >best of p&p records<.

the debut palace brothers album was released in 1993 when much american music was going through a particularly bombastic period. in contrast >there is no one what will take care of you< sounded like a field recording, as though a tape of back porch confessionals recorded by alan lomax as an example of high southern gothic style, had been newly discovered and released.
