after leibniz focused on distorted grime and jungle influenced techno on his last records, he is now diving into deeper fields with his first ep for hundert. over the time leibniz has obsessively collected youtube videos that serve him as an audio sample library. be it a review of a lawnmower or people singing to their pets, every track features bits and pieces of sound taken from these videos. by editing and cutting the original material the sounds get implemented into a new musical context.pushing digital algorithms of music software to its limits and over the edge.house and references to contemporary hip hop beats form the skeleton for four hazy out-of-the-ordinary cuts.

this guy leibniz is back on rat life records. you might remember him from the collaboration with credit 00 on basement toolz volume ii. this time he goes for a full solo ep. the three course menu consists of a grimy appetiser called -bat-, if your stomach can handle this, we serve -uzi- as a main course, a whole round of bullets, very hard to digest. -2 simple- is for dessert, again quite heavy, full of fat and definitely not gluten-free.

leibniz takes no prisoners for his return to shtum. his new ep sees the leipziger by choice in best form. harsh but fair. -grind- is a masterpiece in the matter of building up tension with only few but proper elements. amen to that drumming and when the strings come in the dance floor is probably already burning. -foolish- is no less effective with its ultimate kick drum action and the way the pads are manipulated. romantic leibniz. on the flipside you get the vibrant -this is- in two versions. the -brecht mix- screams rave in capital letters with the bleepy synths and hard snare drum while the -scuff mix- trawls through dark and unearthy techno territories. no-nonsense music.

the keeping of pets marks humans attempt at taking possession of a part of reality that is not at his disposal. dressing a piece of the real that lives according to entirely non-human rules and which only in the saddest case does not resist the discipline of the human symbolic order vehemently and in a sustained matter, is a violent act of protection. because in the non-place of the real, all that which we are helpless in the face of looms: the non-logical and the nameless, the violence and the noise, yet also the unrestrained and unfiltered desire.&#8232,,,the innocuous figure of the pet marks a gateway to an investigation of these eerie milieus, while electronic dance music lends itself to this investigation in an outstanding way. this constellation marks the subject of columns pets ii.

farron gets back on shaw cuts with his fourth record, invincible shaolin a tale of double-dealing, rivalry, royalty and bad blood. manchu general pus evil quest to eradicate the shaolin tradition unfolds, cunningly pitting north and south shaolins against each other. spring break ya neck opens the clash with its rhythmic shifts and whirling synth pads. the northern masters prevail. after pus henchmen secretly kill the southern shaolin, the general blames the masters from the north, unleashing chaos. cosmicaph restores order, its pounding drums and floating melodies giving new strength to the southern shaolin. revenge must be taken. to prepare for conquer, the southern master sends three of his disciples to three masters to learn their secret weapons. sir hatch sets the pace with rolling punches, dirty synths and sharp percussion as the three disciples transform into lethal fighting machines. just before the final encounter between the shaolin, leibniz lands on the scene with his fresh interpretation of spring break ya neck, revealing to both schools that they have been deceived. joining forces, north and south battle the general and his men, led by leibnizs funky drum patterns and turbulent synth action. and the shaolin spirit lives on

the first release on leipzig s ph17 is a compilation of pieces by companioned artists and promising talents which try to pass the limits of regular club music by combining its roots with experimental and weird structures. leibniz sampled his playstation sounds, ariadne created a symbiosis between opera singing and heavy electro acoustics, hobor, who is usually non-conform in his productions, experiments with loopy techno sounds which are creating their own dynamics in-between. annanan and stanley deliver breaks, lo-fi electro and wicked melodies.

leipzig’s r.a.n.d. muzik are perhaps better known for pressing records than releasing them, but to demonstrate their new picture disc press they ve curated a limited edition compilation lp for reflective home listening (and viewing). featuring lowtec, consulate and leipzig locals panthera krause and leibniz to name just a few, over its 8 tracks the collection moves from melody-driven idm to dark, atmospheric ambience, through to reflective electronica. skilfully pressed on two sides of 12” plastic with artwork by marijn degenaar this is surely a must-have for every sensible record collector.

it has been a while since we put out the first record on our * van doumen* sublabel. but the time has come to do it once again. it features surprisingly well-known artists for doumen standards, such as nyc prodigy photay, psychedelic la beatmaker ras g, studio barnhuis darling kornél kovács and leipzig legend leibniz. all are remixing original doumen releases. so i guess your are old enough to decide for yourself if you find that interesting.

the first compilation on the dresden based label shtum unites three label regulars and one newbie with four tracks suitable for rampant basements. -motorcity racers- has been on rotation for quite some time amongst the label heads and is the first sign from poland s chino on shtum. it floats somewhere between dirty detroit and the rough corners of the netherlands. leibniz delivers the -real life-, a relatively straight follow-up to his latest ep, while jaures hit their drum machines like there is no tomorrow. perm s cut is all loopy and succeeds in creating an irresistible atmosphere with just a few elements. the artwork comes courtesy of carl-johannes schulze.
