airhead has put out some great music this year. kicking off with the radiophonic ice of kazzt for mumdance s different circles and just recently the low slung cristobal on ps records his production chops get bolder by the minute. it s no surprise seeing as he spent much of the previous year producing key tracks for the incredible -1-800 dinosaur presents trim- album alongside bullion and boothroyd as well as regularly touring and writing with long-time musical partner james blake. back with another 12- on hemlock, his first since 2014 s rolling october / macondo this time the sound is dustier, warmer, but packing twice the punch all the while retaining his signature understated wild-man groove. both tracks are capable on dancefloor whilst richly layered, packed with detail and arranged for maximum connectivity with contemporary beat styles such as house, techno and breaks. what happened to ricky martin? shaded is the twisted latin stepper you didn t know you needed, so much, right now. polished drums dug into a tweaky sci-fi soundbed make way for the curveball drop not every dj will be able to style out but those brave few that do will reap the reward. captain, we have an incoming transmission. by now, antipolo will be on the long-range scanners of a several fleets in this sector and is finally ready for replication and deployment. beaming out to the far reaches of the dancefloor we have bass, breakbeats and synth hooks but not as we know it together forming an advanced composite bond of extreme strength and malleability.

the crisp tech house machinations of constant sound continue apace with this excellent transmission from the ever rising michael james. -the story unfolds- leads the way with a set of slick and slender rhythms locked into a quintessential minimal house swing, with plenty of subtle micro sampling bubbling away between the beats. -vshl- has a chunkier disposition, using bolder percussive strokes that punch in unison with the wobbly synth lines. -perseid- is a trippy affair loaded with zippy effects and dubby effects, and then -h15- rounds the ep out with a resolutely deep 4/4 meditation

faraway reach casts classixx’s young-but-nostalgic melodies and sublime chords in a more mature, restrained light, albeit no less lively and bright. establishing themselves as producers of note on their debut lp (pitchfork called them “great songwriters, too”), faraway reach delivers powerfully smooth and soulful jewels that are still decidedly their own - the classixx signature is one that can’t be traced. their love of plaintive voices and disco-inspired grooves is as evident as ever, but this time around everything is a bit bolder, the cast is bigger, the melodies distilled into a higher potency - it’s all just as good, but better. “on the first record, we wanted to include only people that were our friends, and have it be really personal…” david begins, a thought blake finishes: “this time we wanted to make a record with a lot of different kinds of vocals, to see if we could be the common thread.” the album traverses locales, vocalists and inspirations. it s a fitting movement for the duo, from venice beach to the mountains of south africa and everywhere in between - a faraway reach.

2014 has been a slow year for sequencias in terms of releases. most of our energy has been spent towards the development of different projects, like our new webstore, that has become an outlet for us to share some of the records that influence the way we do things. so, with the wax offering slowing to a mere trickle, who better to entrust with our sole release for the rest of the calendar year? dcantu, of course. cantus electro-heavy sound is fleshed out here and while still lean enough for dance floors, it makes bolder moves into atmospheric and melodic territory.

edux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. machete savane is their latest signing, aka studio supremo saul richards & andy bainbridge, an integral part on well respected and notoriously raucous party people bad passion andy has perfectly distilled what drives the bad passion dancefloor in the excellent >elysian fields<, and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest felix dickinson. he takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more acid house territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore. finally mid op amps up the drum machinery, and lays out another corking balearic with balls workout. quality stuff as always.

the new ep from memoria comes from fast-rising romanian producer vid whose previous outings have come on labels including fear of flying and barraca music. vid (vidum) aka sorin rastoaca is a producer obsessed with nature and organic sounds. his latest release >rebirth<, is stripped but not light on feeling, and mines a vein somewhere between deep house and minimal techno. etime is a fluttery, eerie cut that works on many subtle layers. like the feathery minimal percussion of villalobos, the romanians sounds present like flapping butterfly wings as a kick drum punches out a varied pattern below. poem is a little louder and bolder, with a firm rolling kick drum and drunken, wubby sounds running right through its core. plenty of sonic details flesh out the languorous but slightly tribal groove. rebirth is again about little tiny details and how they evolve with time, but the framework they inhabit this time is deep, late-night house with gentle tinkles on keys coming over like a fluttering candle in the dark. 3729 gets its head down and mines a shifty, itching and tight minimal groove, closing out an ep which shows vid to be a master of working minimum sounds into maximum effects.

dimi angélis & jeroen search. both artists are among the few internationally acclaimed techno artists from the netherlands. their dj activity and production work reaches back into the early nineties. >the new frontier< melds the firmness and determination of old school techno with a contemporary subtlety. it is amazing how few elements jereon search and dimi angélis need to create a dense and compelling athmosphere. >lunar< is the kind of track that slips perfectly in a wide range of club sets. while it offers the dj a vast span of possible connections to other music, its hypnotic melody does not leave your head for hours. >jupiter< is bolder, it is centered around a demanding groove. while the melodies operate in the background of the track, the complex net of rhythmic patterns shifts indistinguishably. it is the type of music which holds you in a tight grip - and you are not even able to tell what exactly is so striking about it. its implicitness makes >the new frontier< such a special record. it belongs to the rare breed of music which does not demand to go into your box - and this is exactly why it is made to stay there for quite some time
