gothika shade has been a long time fan and supporter of kniteforce records since the very earliest days. not only is he a man of fantastic taste (obviously) but he is also very much the producer of proper old skool. with a sound that touches on early jungle, 95 style hardcore both dark and light, his sonic mixtures are truly something to be reckoned with. this ep lays down his mandate with effortless style, showing a range but never leaving the key touchstone of proper, break beat hardcore. kniteforce style.

two decades ep sees london producer missing join the fold for the fourth installment of five folds mandate: releasing quality dance music free from genre and tempo constraints. hailing from the heady days of the uk jungle scene circa 94, followed by a host of releases as one half of the breaks duo c83 throughout the noughties, missing re-emerges on the scene with four dancefloor fillers spanning uk bass house, garage/ jungle grooves and vocal deep house.

with credits between them ranging from hypercolour, future boogie, fear of flying, southern fried, save you and wolf, dj/producers james welsh and ste roberts team up under their r&w pseudonym for this, the 7th release on initials with its clear mandate from the word go back in 2012 to release only the most underground house and techno, initials (helmed by ste himself, hypercolours alex jones and 1trax label boss dave elkabas) delivers the goods yet again with the socks & scandals ep. at just 2 tracks, there is no need to say more, with opener meat an understated mechanical exploration into the art of evolving and hypnotic beat-crafting, while bucket sheep employs rhythmic detail in a broader soundscape to great effect, offsetting the incessant marching bass expertly.

livity sound is the label and live project combining the talents of the bristol trio of peverelist, kowton & asusu with a mandate to explore the edges of techno through the prism of the bristol echo chamber. the velez / rendering 12 inch is the second, highly anticipated solo release for asusu on the label.

expanding on its global mandate, culprit touches down in germany in its talent search. essen-based ahmet sisman is the next new artist to be added to the labels burgeoning clan of contributors, with dance with the white rabbit ep - two originals of sparkling and exciting electronic house. nico lahs and audiofly, long friends of the label, add their skills and charisma remixing the anthemic title track.

duchess says are montreals answer to six finger satellite, to the units, to depeche mode. whilst nodding to no wave, to new wave and to punk, they do something more, something unique that pushes the power of their influences into new places. not at all bothered by format or conventions, duchess says can easily set fire to any warehouse parties or arenas. their musical influences range from no wave, new wave, punk, to cinema and visual arts. duchess says have the mandate to decontextualise the rock and to promote simultaneously their church on the way.

10 years ago toronto’s matt thibideau (aka altitude/coordinates) contributed one of the finest tracks in cynosure history. today matt returns with three brand new cuts and a re-mastered version of the cyn001 classic track entitled “archenar”. asphalt starts things off with a cutting edge syncopated groove that precisely reflects the cynosure sound over the years. a minimal, swingin, synth stab work out giving you the right amount of funk. archenar smooths things out with some lush pads and a dreamy reverb on the drums creating a subtle washed effect, perfect for the early morning blur. but let’s not forget to mention the killer ms-20 sub bass line.. ahhh so deep. icebox comes next with some icy precision fm syncopation in the mix. accompanied by matt’s signature classic synth percussion grooves. full of melody and warmth this track would melt most refrigerators down. last but not least the outside b track entitled 30 story drop. following suite with matt’s previous releases on blue records under the alias altitude 30 story drop dives deep into basic channel influenced dub and drops some serious bass. matt thibideau’s return to the label has been long anticipated and proves that cynosure’s mandate of releasing timeless uncompromising music is still very much alive 10 years on
