sweet n candy brings a very well rounded ep to doc. rico henshel (aka sweet n candy) is another techno veteran who needs little introduction. the wicked keeper ep also features a remix by doc label boss, aaron hedges, and beaner (who is also s o o n to release his 2nd record on rekids - radioslaves label)

a planned reissue for many years, the untimely passing of steve coe shortly after the label s rerelease of the ganges orchestra s the dream put everything on hold. however, time moves and so now seems a fitting time to revisit this -world dance- classic with fonder hearts. long cherished, it is a reminder of steve s enduring studio mastery. after the initial success of his work with sheila chandra in monsoon, steve expanded his musical scope, working on an indipop compilation as clubs looked to eastern flavours to add a new dimension for the dancefloor. teaming up with tabla disciple turned teacher, jhalib (millar), as well as long time collaborator martin smith, it s hard to imagine mysteries was first heard in 1982. hailed as an all time classic, it s enduring appeal can be seen in how it became a staple for the likes of danielle baldelli at the infamous cosmic club and beyond to become an original evissa -balearic- secret play for weatherall & co in those fateful summers of love and beyond. remastered especially for this release, the orchestral eastern melody and mid-tempo chugging rhythms and vocals marry in perfection with a dub bassline of wobble inspired depth. this alone would be enough, however, the original is at last backed with the 1988 remix. aimed at the then burgening new beat scene, a subtle straightening kick is added, but it s the unmistakable vocals of sheila chandra that finally brings this release together in melodic harmony. peace be with you steve. i am x

the brother s leeb are releasing their first limited, vinyl only e.p. on smile for a while. now, who are those guys? one of the bros - dj eb-clectic - helped building germany s hip hop scene during the late 1980s and 1990s in frankfurt / main, but also did some chicago house tunes with deskee and gene farris on force inc. in the 1990s, as well. this brother is a real keeper! the other bro - leander janik - is in his mid 20s and quite an avid home composer on his little roland synthie. he s a long term member of the s4aw crew, and has shared a studio with all the other guys. needless to say the brothers are hell of a dj duo, too...

2008 mini lp sleeve reissue of this album from serge gainsbourgs right-hand man jean-claude vannier, originally released in 1972. recorded during the same sessions as gainsbourgs highly acclaimed masterpiece melody nelson it follows in a similar avant-garde rock-opera vein. lenfant assasin des mouches (the child fly-killer) is a supernatural tale written by gainsbourg depicting the journey of the young child travelling through a nightmarish -fly kingdom-. vannier narrates the story with sparse music concrete sounds coupled with choirs, funky beats, cowbells, wah-wah guitars and ethnic strings. comparisons could be made with some of frank zappas hot rats material and alain goraguers creepy le planet sauvge.

cocker kicks off a collectable series of bargain-priced finders keepers compilations made to support the label in light of the recent warehouse fire at pias north london depot. a long time fan of the label and their doings, he was granted full access to rifle their catalogue and hes picked some absolute treats for ya, including, if were not mistaken, some which have never appeared on cd before. to start theres the perspicacious poetics of carol battens beeing, besides the legendary pseudo j-pop of yamasuki (made by none other than thomas -daft punk- bangalters dad!), besides a first cd appearance for jacky chalards super man, super cool from the cache cache 12-. youll also find a nugget from the stone soundtrack, one of the labels finest moments from amrals trinidad cavaliers steel drum orchestra, the glam prog of gongs rational anthem, balearic prog from fusioon, tender folk from jane weaver with wendy flower, and a bonus moment in jean claude vanniers au desepoir des singles. top picks, well recommended!
