clouds have rapidly evolved from world-class stadium-wrecking maximalists to serious talents featured in sets by techno heavyweights like richie hawtin, chris liebing, and marcel dettman. featuring a remix by truss.

the title track on tychos long-awaited dive lp is just that — a ripple effect record that sounds like three songs in one, as if sound/graphic designer scott hansen just discovered progrock and decided to apply its winding passages to his own singular blend of sinewy synths and bleached beats. its also the first tycho song to feature a prominent guest musician, guitarist zac brown, in this case, who paints outside the lines of hansens halcyon hooks with restless rhythms and monorail-like riffs. the >dive< single fleshes things out even further, as keep shelly in athens and memoryhouse — both rising underground artists in their own right — cut hansens cloud-scraping composition in half and slow his cruise control chords down to a crawl. the misty vocal melodies are still there, but they are now floating through an embryonic assembly of jittery cicadas, rusty gears, and lean loops that are both welcoming and a bit woozy. the sonic equivalent of staring at the sun for too long, really, or two sides of the same cracked mirror.

bristol hub soul motive scored a massive coup in enlisting punch drunk boss peverelist to remix >stableface<, one of the standout tracks from clouds of moments, the 2010 debut set from lithuanian experimental dubstepper eleven tigers. that they choose to complement it with two further remixes is tantamount to treating us, with both dark sky and macc on board to further re-contextualise the cracked atmospherics. in the hands of dark sky, >stableface< is twisted into a brooding dark side steppah with subtle hints of jungle pressure pervading the lower reaches, the 50 weapons trio playfully teasing with the vocal before dropping in a bassline that can only be described as rude. on the flip, macc showcases his enviable drumming skills with a heavily cinematic roller of a remix dominated by those rumbling, live rhythms

marco resmann has done it. the studio computer is purring again like a satisfied kitten and those dark technical storm clouds have passed by. to prove that a streak of technical bad luck which he has just gone through can sometimes enhance creativity he has come up with this little gem of a new single >drop outz<. on a1 we have >mal pas< (transl: difficult road) which is an ode to the suffering he went through with his computer. but dont worry, its just a name, the track itself is as light and sweet as the stuff that we love from marco. b1 is also little beauty, no dark clouds to be found here either, and b2, a cracker called >whats cracking< is the ultimate proof to anyone that the sun always shines at upon you. enjoy and always think happy thoughts friends
