urpa i musell, the new barcelona-based record label, feels very fortunate to announce its second release, the first ever vinyl reissue of mr. wollogallu, the collaboration album between carlos maria trindade andnuno canavarro originally released in portugal on união lisboa, produções audiovisuais lda. in 1991 the collaboration began when the manager antónio cunha, a mutual friend of both musicians, brought the two together for a performance. afterwards they decided to embark on mr. wollogallu. they had never worked together before, although their careers had parallels between them. both were part of the 80s portuguese pop-rock scene: carlos maria trindade had played with corpo diplomático and heróis do mar, while nuno canavarro played in street kids and delfins. moreover, individually, carlos maria had released the single princesa / em campo aberto (vimúsica, 1982), and nuno had done the lp plux quba (ama romanta, 1988), now recognized worldwide for its uniqueness.

making a debut appearance on our own invisible ep 6 compilation last year we re very happy to at last feature a full 4-track ep from the mysterious immaculate rivombo. again the music is filled with that signature sound of live african percussion and 303s but this time with additional thumb pianos, hypnotic vocals and spacey synth lines. purporting to be from burundi (for all we know this could be the product of an elaborate ruse emanating from berlin tbh) the enigmatic producer (he? she? they?) has once again excelled and produced an ep that manages somehow to sound uplifting and spiritual at the same time as it is deep, dark and dubby. whatever, the music s great and that s what matters. definitely one to watch out for. another great ep from invisible inc. trippy, far out sounds. my pick is b1.killer party tool!! one year has passed since the pilotwings’ first output « agorespace ». expectations went further in 2015 as they contributed to the rave-ish j-zbel project. the pair is now back on bfdm with another ode to rurality and old-fashioned analogue. including 4 tracks, « molitor 71 » goes deeper into retrofuturist nostalgia and bucolic mood. a1 31 septembre (on va tout niker) introduces full-on panflute melodies and uplifting korg exotica. as the trancy chicago dream fades out, a2 les invasions babar unveils its weird combo of electro beats and massive patrick cowley-esque synths. unplanned bass moves lead this jam while an undertaking voice calls for no less than « the greatest experience of your life ». things settle down on the nocturnal b1 congo libre. focus on breakbeats and sophisticated rhythms evokes trance beats, while sparkling synths emerge from everywhere. the ep ends up with a floating ambient piece called buruganda ouverture and designed for the listener to rediscover the meaning of his existence. molitor will give you faith in humanity and flutes again.

esa returns with the final instalment for this highlife world series which included previous releases cuba and kenya. having been invited to attend the east africa music conference doadoa in jinja, uganda back in 2014 and again in 2015, esa shares the sounds of a new breed of talent and ideas emerging from east africa and beyond, showcases music not only from uganda but artist from burundi, rwanda, kenya and south africa who all attended the conference.
