the identity of belgian mystery man beton is a complete mystery to us. what we do know is that twin turbo owner/assistant webmaster tiga has called this record the best release of the past five years. even when you consider that tiga believes he experiences time differently from the rest of us, that still means the soundtrack of your life for the past half-decade has been straight-up garbage in comparison. since most djs wont even listen to a record if they dont like the track descriptions, we realize a lot is riding on the next paragraph. acid-electro bomb directions is a collaboration with wevie stonder, who call themselves an absurdist electronic music collective, which youd have to agree sounds like a lot of fun. meanwhile, keep breathin completely redefines the term pump-bumpin pumper, and features vocals from dance mania ghetto house legend dj deeon. twin turbo keeps puttin hot mp3s in your pocket, offering maximum value for your hard-won digital nickels. as far as we know, youve earned it.

bienvenue beton! a brand-new act making his mark straight out of the block. little is known about him besides the fact hes from belgium, hes clearly a graduate of the hardfloor school of knocks, hes invested in some serious analogue gear and he knows his way around a kick-ass groove! his latest project sees the launch of his own label trek u plan, which will also have a vinyl imprint. the debut release is the double header balloon/juegd already picking up major support from francois k, catz & dogz, phil kieran, slam, marco carola, psychatron to name a few. balloon is raw rumbling techno hybrid with the backbone a dark thundering drum and sharp pummelling hi hats. jeugd is a collaboration between beton & fellow belgian stealdrum, who introduce flanger madness that transitions into a warm stabbing synth, giving the track it s funk. it is rooted in classic ideas yet updated with the mind on present. for the remix of jeugd, schmutz delivers a uncompromising belter reminiscent of the i love techno days with the likes of dj rush and dave clarke. using one of the long synths in jeugd it creates a tension throughout that, together with frantic drums, give the track immense drive. beton recently presented his debut release on pets records, immediately getting support from carl cox, eats everything, paul ritch, huxley, anja schnieder, yousef, sidney charles, sante and many more. showcasing his raw sound, with straight to the floor slabs of gritty technoid machine funk, bruxelles paid homage to the citys visceral new beat and ebm roots but with contemporary muscle and a titanium jacking groove almost wink-like hypnosis to the acid as it stripped back. voice 64 continued this theme of stark leftfield savagery, once again another physical, concentrated piece of frank, honest techno. pressed on black vinyl in a hand stamped sleeve. early support from francois k, marco carola, audio injection, davide squillace, sasha carassi, slam, luigi madonna

berlin based electronic mainstay marquis hawkes has announced details of his second lp the marquis of hawkes. the album will be the producers second lp for us, following his critically acclaimed debut social housing for the label, which was released in 2016. entitled the marquis of hawkes, the new album adheres to a specific sound palette whilst still displaying eclecticism across its eight tracks. opening with the beat-less droning ambience of beton theme, the album takes in a variety of themes from across the house music spectrum, from the deep and dubby meditation of instrument of thought to the body jerking rhythms and retro bass stabs of tough love, the introspective mood of the matrix, to the soulful new jersey styled house grooves with a contemporary twist of sunset building through the optimistic joyousness of �hope in our hearts before closing with lidells heartfelt and passionate emotional overload on we should be free. first emerging in 2012, after being sought out by glasgow label dixon avenue basement jams, and having previously been heavily involved with the free festival sound-system culture, the london born artists iconic sound has taken shape with the influence of music from cities like chicago, detroit and new york alongside the uks underground house scene. with both depth and clarity of vision, marquis hawkes second album for houndstooth expertly hones a shining hybrid of classic slamming house and grittily soulful optimism, making for a career-defining piece of work.

neben der cd und der 2lp+cd mit coverversionen erscheint eine streng limitierte prachtbox, die nicht nur diese, sondern auch bisher unveröffentlichten originalaufnahmen aus den frühen neunziger jahren, sowie einer verspäteten extended version, die die band selbst noch einmal eingespielt hat enthält. neben den coverversionen, die ja eigentlich alle die zeitlosigkeit der sterne zelebrieren, findet sich in dem in jeglicher hinsicht hochwertigen lp-boxset (gestaltet von yannick riemer von isolation berlin) dann noch etwas, das wohl doch als relikt bezeichnet werden kann. zwei demos der sterne, kleine schritte stolpern und sturm über der hallig, zeigen auf 7-inch-vinyl eine frühe version der band, ganz im charme ihrer hanseatischen jugendlichkeit (1991). die sterne selbst und erobique, sowie pollyester auf der flip, markieren auf einer ebenfalls beiliegenden disco-12-inch das andere ende des zeitstrahls (2016). so werden die beigaben plötzlich zur klammer eines kleinen universums, in dem sich aufzeigt, dass musik am schönsten ist, wenn sie nach 25 jahren bandgeschichte noch immer zwischen lustvoller virtuosität und dem charme des dilettantismus zu pendeln vermag, bringt es hendrik otremba, sänger der band messer im info zum album auf den punkt.
