nous klaer welcomes cosime, a collaborative project between longtime companions arif and job. their debut ep consists of three tracks, including an outstanding version of the a1. most of the record was recorded and arranged on several autumn days, home away from home, facing a freshwater lake. field recordings, made on a former island that is now a peninsula, provide the basis of the hilary ep. on the b side the recordings lay over solid drum programming, centred on the offbeat hat. on the a side fyr offers a more fluid take, resulting in a splendid play of samples and rhythms sewn together. the alternative take of fyr takes on an anything-goes approach, highly club appropriate though moving away from the rhythm backbone. excellent music for pedaloes.

chaka khan, born yvette marie stevens, is an american singer-songwriter whose career has spanned four decades, beginning in the 1970s as the frontwoman and focal point of the funk band rufus. often dubbed the queen of funk, khan has won ten grammys and has sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide.
*what cha gonna do for me* (1980) is arguably the best effort of the partnership with arif mardin. slowly but surely the two began to craft an even more successful and innovative sound. the album peaked at #3 in the r&b albums chart of 1981.
the cover of *we can work it out* gets a brash and funky stevie wonder –style arrangement, with gregory phillanganes doing great synth work. the best song here, *i know you, i live you*, displays brilliant bass and drum.

punx soundcheck met while ohn taylor was teaching at a dj school in greenwich, london, and arif salih one half of nineties duo >natural born chillers< was in the adjoining studios finishing their album.after becoming friends they decided to make a few tracks comining johns knowledge of techno and house with arifs familitary with hip hop and the underground scene, the pair took their influence into the studio to experiment with a hybrid of styles.
