with his new album whats fruit, schlammpeitziger touches the dancefloor more than ever before in his 22-year long career. yet his dancefloor is a playful one. the cologne based composers sounds electrify with their multi-layered melodic structures. he weaves countless details in perfection, to a high density of musical activity, always focusing on the slow, driving beats which hold everything together.

the fruit tree foundation is an independent project that grew from the scottish mental health arts and film festival. ed by emma pollock (formerly of the delgados) and rod jones (idlewild), the fruit tree foundation also features james graham (twilight sad), scott hutchison (frightened rabbit), jill o sullivan (sparrow and the workshop), alasdair roberts, james yorkston, karine polwart and jenny reeve. the artists wrote and rehearsed the album over a long weekend in a remote perthshire farmhouse and recorded the final album in chem19 studios. the songs were written with a view to focussing on issues of mental health and wellbeing. artwork design by aidan moffat.

tripper, the fifth fruit bats full-length, was recorded at wacs studio in los angeles with thom monahan. for the first week of recording, fruit bats leader eric d. johnson brought in a full band to capture some of the live excitement of 2009s the ruminant band. however, having recently worked alone on soundtracks for an extended period, johnson knew that he wanted tripper to be more of a solitary pursuit than his previous album. the resulting album, a bittersweet meditation on hitting the road, leaving the familiar behind and reinventing yourself, is a reinvention itself.
