it’s time for local talk to go local again with another swedish producer, eric ericsson. with numerous releases out in labels like planet e, fragile and freerange he’s one of those producers with one foot in the techno scene and another in the more soulful house scene. basically, he s not a one trick pony! for his release on local talk we would say he lands somewhere between classic chi-town house and thumping nyc house groove but without sounding too retro or washed out. its simply real house music! we begin with love it, a real bumpy house track with analogue basslines and swinging fender grooves that will work both stateside and in the european house clubs. the second track the chi is as the title suggest a homage to chicago with a slight old school boo williams fee. - dope! but thats not all, to give the release a broader twist we got man of the moment oskar offerman (berlin) to remix love it for us. oskar goes more deep with his trademark sound and gives us a dark mix that will sound amazing in your favourite berlin club of choice.

local talk welcomes detroit house music legend terrence parker to the family. his release is not only the first of 2017 but also marks the 75th release on local talk. sometimes you just want a producer to deliver what he s best at and with these two tracks that is exactly what we get. opening track gratiot avenue piano is a straight forward piano house track that hits peak hour business in just a couple of minutes. if you like the classic terrence parker sound like we do, then don t look any further. on the flip unconditional embellishes all that s good about a house track, a delightfully soulful house bump together with an infectious organ hook. there s no messing around on this release and terrence never puts a foot wrong throughout these two tracks, both are perfectly conceived from start to finish.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent... house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 1 you ll find a dark bassline driven house jam from art of tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from nyc s dj spinna, a blaze homage with that classic new jersey sound from sean mccabe, and a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta brescia from wonder kid corrado bucci. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style!

soft talk is the latest alias that natal zaks - our longtime danish friend and a musician we have been constantly releasing under different monikers throughout the last 5 years - picked out for us. he is hands down the most talented producer we have ever met and it is always a privilege to be able release his music under any name he chooses. we have seen his music go through many transformations and they were always for the best. this time we feel the exact same thing, that this is our favorite music ever and we will never want to release anything else again. that is never true of course, but the mercy ep does feel a lot like that.

if you ve followed local talk thru the years you ve most likely noticed how we like to throw a few curve-balls every now and then. for our 65th release we ve got gomma boss mathias modica aka munk and ndatl head honcho kai alce sharing the black gold. two producers with their own unique style presenting something special. while munk s original version of hot medusa is a shimmering and warm head-nodding & toe-tapping jam, the remix by mr alce is deep, soulful and musically rich house. two very different takes on one track, take your pick. on the flip munk delivers purple dust. this time he s upped the tempo a few bpm s, accompanied by a deep bassline with lush melodic synths and chords. mr alce ends the 12- with a dub of hot medusa which is brilliant from start to finish. another highly recommended and essential release.

ever since the debut, communication ep which also marked our 50th release, alexander lay-far has a special place in the local talk family.

always eager to champion new talent, dessous recordings unearth a precious gem from brussels-based lockwood, a duo comprising childhood friends gert-jan haegeman and billy hillaert. ‘lets talk sets out their stall: a shuffling, shimmying groove upon which an unruffled bassline and blue-tinged jazz chords blissfully coast. this is warm, dreamy, house so deliciously laidback and soulful that it never outstays its 9-minute running time.

we had no choice but to bring back our friend kiko navarro after the success of the new life ep released on local talk earlier this year. isao is kiko at his finest, a beautiful and hypnotic house track that has the perfect blend of afro and latin elements with a bouncy electronic edge. theres also a mighty fine remix coming from jose marquez. jose develops the vocal elements and brings in a whole orchestra of drums taking the track in a sweatier direction. kiko also delivers a koki dub where he continues on the same vibe and adds strings complimented by shakers and percussions throughout the track.

in flagranti/craig yamey/andy butler/wolfram/dinamo azari. in flagranti prove once again that their knowledge for quality disco grooves is consummate, showing off top notch use of reminiscent samples and funky synths in new single double talk.

adesse versions started out as a re-edit series, with humble ambitions of releasing a couple of white labels, nothing more, nothing less. it kept growing with both original productions and remixes appearing. it didn t take long until tracks such as pressured, modal and justified appeared on charts and the records found their way to such esteemed people as derrick may, larry heard, gilles peterson and of course mad mats & tooli. since then it s been an ongoing theme with kevin gormans music, yes that s his real name. always well received and played by many.

a transverse flutist is an arguably rare sight in electronic dance music, but thats not the only thing setting apart trained instrumentalist and upcoming producer l_cio. having become known to a wider audience thanks to his collaborations with floor-savvy artists like portable or patrice bäumel, the sao paulo native doesnt aspire to be a dj, but instead delves deeper into live performance in a club context - which led him to become that rarest of all things, a live electronic musician holding residencies in regular clubs without ever so much as touching a record. for the latest release from d.o.c., l_cio sat down with aroop roy and the labels mastermind gui boratto to produce an exquisite ep full of enticing grooves, lush harmonies and organic flow, engineered to perfection by gui himself. its an exciting step for both the imprint and the artist - pointing in different directions, but all of them right.

melody as truth returns with talk from home an album from los angeles native suzanne kraft. talk from home showcases krafts emotional depth as a producer, and skill as a multi-instrumentalist. recorded over a few weeks in the winter of 2014, the intimacy of the recordings shines through in a melancholic yet hopeful world of melody and tone.

walk dance talk sing is the seventh album by much-loved crazy p aka danielle moore, jim baron and chris toddy todd.

atjazz on local talk! pretty good combo right? well, just wait until you hear fox tooth and we re quite sure you ll agree with us that this is something above normal rank. martin iveson aka atjazz gave us a release that will work just as well on big sound systems as well as in those dark house basements. the original version is an electronic house jam that s equipped with all necessary tools in order to peak in the main room but without all the played out tech-house schemes. it s uplifting yet dark and carves a very personal groove - yum ! oh, don t miss the killer break down...big! the second version comes in the form of his inspired atjazz galaxy aart dub and this to be fair is more of a remix than a dub. here we step straight down to the darkness for a warming deep house cut that sounds like something from the prescription archives but still retaining the trademark atjazz sound. this is simply, sophisticated house music for those who like things real.

azrael and ghost form the two original tracks on hvobs sixth ep. not only do they offer an acoustic and conceptual taste of this springs hvob album, they are, moreover, accompanied by two remixes: pillow talk from san francisco (wolf + lamb, life & death) apply their sound to the pulsating and percussive arc of suspense that is album-opener azrael

no stranger to the house scene, kiko navarro is a dj and producer whose productions, remixes and edits have appeared on an impressive list of labels for many years.

out of rome, sofatalk soars high on this ep, feeling out the difference between a lifetime on earth or one really cool moment above it. the title track breathes and evolves via a series of flourishes on the playful side of things - this one is no beard stroker. cloudy soul keeps the optimism and front foot action rolling with an excursion slightly to the deeper end without ever fully taking the plunge. wrapping it up, on reflection is a tight little rhythm-box-driven number that takes you by surprise, transplanting you from the floor to the lower middle stratosphere without you realising. japanese producer 9dw then turns it into a hot stepper of its own, keeping the energy up there but differentiating the bounce.

the debut release on office recordings is the first part of a series produced by label founder baaz. in my mind is a subtle, shiny piece of jazzyfied house music with a steady rolling groove and dirty kickdrum. glim bangs the box with deep dubs and a sexy vigorous groove. the flip starts with two mind bending downbeat cuts with a stumbling beat. last but not least a slowburning remix of way out citti by matthias reiling (sessionn victim, giegling recordings) and björn astrup who did a brilliant job twisting the original into a soulful homage to the slow side of house music.

new year, new release and a new local talk member to introduce to you all - lets all welcome merrick. this young wiz kid steps up to the plate with a three track sweaty and headstrong release for our local talk off shoot ltx. developed deep inside his sound lab somewhere in europe, using dark grooves and dusty chords as the foundation - this release leaves you in no doubt where his current position is - in the club. from the opening track do that with its chunky grooves and warm basslines via the scene, a basement deep house track that ll satisfy all the moodymann fans out there. the last track, devils dance, keeps us hypnotically locked from start to finish with its rich and warm chords, have a listen - youll understand why.
