bill browns super rare brownstone release is one for the deep heads, less well known than label mate everyday people but just as rare and collectable. shuffling sunshine soul its all about the groove and feeling. 500 copies only. one for the heads. bill brown and al hall jr met around 1971, they were both in south central l.a and shared the same apartment building, also in the same building was doug carn and brownstone singer billy wilson. these studio sessions were done at paramount studios hollywood where al hall jr was working for producer art smith a&c music. the main distributor for a&c was accent records.

the wonderfully monikered golden flamingo was one of many labels operating alongside the now legendary p&p records imprint in late 70 s to early 80 s nyc. fans of deep disco, raw gritty soul and rare as hen s teeth electro and early rap know of the cult status of it s brief but influential output and in recent years the p&p label and it s associated entities have enjoyed further popularity through the exposure of it s music by some of the world s most respected dj s and selectors, and rightfully so. an amazingly lo-fi, endearing and overtly underground aesthetic runs through all of the labels, from the label artwork down to the music itself. this style is evident on margo williams epic god save and protect all the children , a colossally rare 12- from back in 1980.

robert used musicians from ripple to record four self penned songs as a vanity project which remained unissued, two of which have since been released as a soul junction 45 the modern soul dancers time of the day/take me high (sj537). while a third track, the excellent ballad love song about you made it s initial debut as part of the popular -we got a sweet thing going on - (volume 3) cd compilation series to great acclaim, following requests for it to put on a 45 we have duly obliged placing it back to back with robert s remaining previously unissued track the more dance orientated -i love you so- complete with girl backing singers. thus in doing so, we have now completed the trilogy of robert montgomery s recording output.

eddie fowlkes is one of detroits finest, still working doggedly to push his own distinct spin on the motor city sound. hes taking no prisoners on this latest 12inch on his own detroit wax label, bringing a tough and righteous rhythm to the foreground on give it up for my dj with some of those head spinning melodic flourishes that are his trademark. love works is a crooked groover that piles the bass on generously and keeps the swing up high if this one doesnt get bodies jerking then nothing will. no-one does it quite like fowlkes, and hes on impeccable form here.

essential repress of stunning 1977 disco-soul rarity, written, produced and arranged by the incredible team of norman connors, reggie lucas and james mtume. vitamin e, a a short-lived group that yielded only 2 singles and one long player during their time certainly knew who to work with in the studio. kiss away is an absolute belter, raw and raunchy funk riffing gives way to some ultra smooth, grown-up stepping soul awash with some stellar string arrangements. this one is definitely for the dancers, it simply glides along with the utmost class and sophistication, an incredibly uplifting and funky cut that features here in it s 1977 special disco version guise as per the original buddah records release. on the flip is a cool cover of neil sedaka s 1974 hit laughter in the rain - a sweet version, no doubt, but the real winner is the stellar a-side. reissued, remastered and re-presented for 2018 by above board distribution - 100% legit and licensed.
