mike ash returns to super rhythm trax after providing the very first release and gives us 4 authentic and acidic warehouse smashers. mike ash may be familiar from early releases on moving shadow and rising high records under a variety of pseudonyms in the early 90s but in the last 10 years has become synonymous with releasing mind blowing and true electro under his own name. when he turns his hand to acid house, the results mirror the high quality and his no nonsense approach shines through having lived and breathed the music and culture back when it was exploding in the late 80s and early 90s. in his own words i tried to keep with the original 1988/1989 vibe. i didnt use any synths / sounds / samples that weren t available past 1990. its all juno / sh-101 / 303 / jupiter / 808 / 909 / 707 / 606 and samples from the beats breaks & scratches vol 1&2inch the tracks exude a raw and strangled soul and are a bold and comfortingly honest take on the warehouse and pirate radio sound of the uk.

gari romalis and lello di franco - dreamin for the uninitiated, our man gary romalis is the unsung master of detroit’s house and techno scene. having djed across the motor city’s top venues for the last three decades, gary is somewhat of a seminal figure for many of detroit’s djs currently at the forefront. following a slew of high quality releases on various labels over the past few years, gary now unleashes that special flavour on us for skylax 142! he is not alone though. with him, he brings all round italian partymaker, and top selector in his own right, lello di franco. let me tell you, this duo’s collaboration is something to behold. throughout all 3 tracks on the record, gary and lello maintain the essence of what the detroit underground is all about, stripped back tracks with soul that never feel like they go ‘big’ for the sake of it. while dreamin (wanda mix) may be packing a big kick and power clap combo, it’s the elegantly filtered, jazzy sample that will leave you wishing that the track lasted forever. the vibe takes a dip right into the deep in detroit underground (beat dat mix). spacious pad synths alongside a mesmeric vocal carry us through. taking a step back up, afrobeat rounds off the ep, made with a solid toolkit of afro-centric samples.

dirty analog techno from french boss, crackboy trevor jackson: brilliant! crackboy (and all his dirty aliases) never disapoints for his second chapter on crowdspacer (after releases on tigersushi, im a cliché, zone or fragil), crackboy, the king of french dirty analog techno, half of pov with label-boss joakim, digs deeper into that detroit melanchol-epic vibe with weapons of steel on the a-side before going bonkers on the b-side with 2 naughty stripped-down beat-centric dj tools for the sweaty late night crowds. made me think of some gemini tracks when i first heard it (thats a compliment).

early support from raresh, akufen, and jan krueger, next up on sol asylum is non other than julie marghilano with her innerspace ep. taking the listener to another dimension of sound, she brings her range of musical knowledge to create a solid package with a stunning remix from fred p. starting things off on a analog journey with “innerspace” we move through an interstellar universe with detailed grooves full of percussive splatters and echoing synths that moves us into a dream like state of mind. conjuring the jazz planet in berlin with“katzbachjazz”you are immediately transported to a galaxy of sound with galloping percussion and a classic techno layout. using more 909 techno drum elements she creates a whirlwind of sound with a delicate touch. taking things a little bit deeper with “cosmic karma” she presents a heavily detailed drum structure full of violin experimentation that creates a dark atmosphere but still bringing an uplifting and joyous vibe. finishing off the package is something unique from fred p who julie asked to remix for her due to her enormous respect for him. the emotionally charged remix of“cosmic karma” shows a different side of fred p while still keeping his signature sound in tact. the remix takes us through an ever-evolving voyage through time and space.

oxia returns with a striking 5 track ep including 2 remixes by visionquest’s shaun reeves and 8bits own steffen deux! the bedrock of french quality techno has already created countless classics that proved themselves against the test of time and with unity ep, he’s bound to to it again. the up and down mixes of „unity“ take over with tight drums and rich bass carried by an airy vocal. oxia’s keen ear for detail adds the rest, making them perfect dance weapons for almost any setting. steffen contributes a deeper take on „unity“ working with subtle effects and evolving spheres to create that early morning vibe. „soulsa“ original and remix by shaun are completing the package with laid-back grooves and a fine tool for darker hours. this quality set couldn’t be more versatile, 2016 couldn’t continue any better!

grain remixes !! ashworth s grain lp captured the imagination of many in the music world on its release last year. after releasing two original ep s from the album we get an excellent remix package from three leading lights in electronic music. what better way to wrap up his debut with needwant. the ep serves up three very different remixes all for a different occasion and mood. the ever reliable dorisbourg, who remains one half of the lauded genius of time, takes a laidback electronica approach but with techno at it s heart. newcomer kris davis and yost keep the original feel of cork but provide a sensual but progressive vibe. while simon haydo drives all the way to the end with his remix of fireworks. great production on show across the ep for the emerging producer ashworth.

on the newest star time release, kon reworks “the bottle”. most should be familiar with this song but this gets the standard kon treatment, an intro that builds dropping into the bottle’s infamous chords bass line breakdowns and more. for the flipside kon remixes the rework for more of a housier vibe, chopping some vocal sections and some guitar ala george benson style.

“radiation level” is a looped out dj tool that works it’s way through funk guitar licks & rolling bass lines, followed by the sultry & sleazy “freakin’ time”. the flip kicks off w/ classic electro boogie vibe “breakin’ in space” & closes w/ roller disco vibe “switch”.

one of the most charismatic and respected djs in poland, eltron (aka eltron john) presents what is probably the most expressely club-oriented record in transatlantyk history. his four track offering sounds much like his sets - ferocious and subtle, raw and sophisticated at the same time. the main mix of b&s blends druggy deepness inspired by the vibe of 90s tribal america with uk funky riddims, creating the sort of pneumatic house groove that never fails to get the party rocking. this simple, yet meticulously produced tune has already been road-tested and received enthusiastic feedback from a number of jocks around europe, and the vinyl version seems destined to strengthen its deserved banger-with-a-message status. the dub version of fuses layers of darker, industrial bleeps with a classic break and a rather healthy dose of echo. trippy and rough, yet exhilarating - it is exactly the kind of track you want to hear in a dark warehouse. switch to the b-side for the light , where sampled vocals, pitched-down drums and fuzzy pads are combined to form a unique specimen of lo-fi r n b, eltron-style. this hazy groove is guaranteed to guide dancers ever-so-gently into the light of the morning. finally, reprise exposes the bare bones of the original. with its dubby, in-your-face quality, it is one for the track heads, definitely.

italian rudeboy ivan iacobucci brings his brand of lowdown funk-influenced tech house to apollonia with this sterling three-tracker. over two decades of hard work and dedication to his craft has culminated in ivan’s untainted reputation and widespread respect within the underground from true heads like zip and, of course, the apollonia boys. his love of jazz in evident throughout this ep which is full of subtlety and depth, pulsating b-lines and smooth chords are interlaced with razor-sharp percussion and delicate keys. the first track ‘old in on’ has a laid back, though driving, groove, pushing forward with a hefty bassline that is perfectly counterbalanced by the light twinkling keys and barely-there pads. ‘scris frumos’ encapsulates more of an ominous, tribal feeling with intricate effects trickling through every pore of its deep, dark exterior. its atmospherics keep you intrigued, voices echo in the background and a few moments of softened chimes really intensify the already mysterious vibe. ‘mini ass’ channels more of that electro-funk that forms the foundation of ivan’s love for music, haywire radio pulses prance around stuttered beats, giving it a slightly cosmic feel, while pipes add a more organic nuance to the track. absolutely masterful work from ivan, and another inspired addition to the apollonia catalogue.

six years after his mila ep, uk techno artist lee renance, better known as 100hz with james chapman, is finally back on bosconi with another strong 3 tracker release called -circles-, a combination of very sought-after gems and reworks of old tunes: the record begins with the gentleness of the groovy and jazzy vibe of that mega rare undergound deep anthem named -shoot the bar-, a track originally out in 1998 on pacific records which many people have been probably waiting since long time for a repress, while on b side the artist presents himself under one of his more obscure aliases as mr format, going trough more voodooish and hypnotic dub techno territories with a pitched down version of primary colours track, an undiscovered and carefully crafted secret weapon previously released on his own imprint format records. last cut of the record is a totally renovated version of the track oliva out in 2009 on the greatest french logistic records. in this new version , “oliva funk” epic strings and pads merge with compelling and engaging beats creating a levitating effect which drive the mind and the mood of the dancefloor into dreamy soundscapes. you ll make it yours.

padez is a producer from a town near mannheim which meant growing up fully submersed into the vibrant electronic music movement of mannheim and frankfurt area, but his influences grow roots deeper into the golden age of hip-hop, as well as jazz, soul, funk etc… he started producing in 2009, sharing music just in between a circle of friends, and it was not until 2013 that he had his first digital release out on basti grub’s hoehenregler records. in the meantime he took the chance to dive deeper into the sound with his friends sedee. releases on valioso recordings and medeia records among others can be expected as a result of this collaboration. the love reloaded ep on kanzyanis jesus loved you label is his first vinyl release and a homage to the music he is essentially influenced by. the ep features 3 intrinsically groovy tracks, permeated with heavy baselines and driven by upbeat, slightly broken rhythm patterns, oozing a sublime soulful vibe at the same time. truly a dance-floor delight!

curitiba-based aia records returns with it s second release. lucas and marcelo also known as doneck, started to join forces back in early-2013. musically influenced by international recognised artists such as san soda, andre&#769,,s and move d, the duo also found significance in the sounds of aia s own label heads aninha & antonela antonela giampietro. therefore, creating a mixture of three soulful, deep but endlessly sounding tracks seems very convincing and credible to the overall ethos of the imprint. with assaz the duo delivers a deep but soulful house number, whereas ocluso is deep house at it s best, with a light atmospheric vibe and the echoing vocal. last but not least, te&#770,,nue creates this feeling of weightlessness and ease with warm natural added sounds and it s groovy bassline.

the second offering from no more to roam, comes from one half of 2deepsoul, rai scott. a 3 track ep of low slung, sultry beats. clarinet moods, the eps namesake, comes in two different cuts both with the clarinet skills of rai herself, the melody mix is real nod to the afterhours, subtle drums & a haunting clarinet lick, while the lazy dub a little more upbeat, still has that afterhours vibe, carried with the clarinet & simple percussions, closing things up here is move to the front built for the dancefloor, a rolling bassline & synth, layered over a rolling percussion makes up the final cut.

maxime f joins micropop with a 4 track ep giving a vibrant hommage to the sound and vibe of the 90’s. the doom river ep sees maxime f create four eclectic tracks channeling squelching acid, pounding machine workouts and smooth pads.

legowelt returns to unknown to the unknown for another bunch of wonderful excursions through obsolete musical technology under the banner sampling winter. leading with the title track, this finds danny wolfers on a soulful and deep house vibe with a wandering and mesmerising melody, warm pads and super shuffling garage style rhythm. on the flip is “beach oceano” which is equally rich in soulfulness but more on the deeper techno vibe, with its sharp and hypnotising arpeggio backed by galactic melodies and glistening pads. all accentuated by analogue tape hiss in the background. this is raw!

this time tiefenrausch welcomes a new artist in their dub techno family. förster joins the label with his aqua viridis ep and presents a debut with three tracks. as part of his „grün“ series, every track stands for a different vibe of the genre. the a-side comes with a pumping, reduced smasher, that definetely aims on the dancefloor. side b brings more immersed deepnes. „grün xv“ and „grün xviii“ evoke an abyss and enwind the listener with dublime deepness. all covered up by the artwork of alex ketzer and the imagery from jules vernes „20.000 leagues under the sea“.

mark e last delivered on futureboogie back in november 2014, so it’s a welcome return to the label for the birmingham based dj & producer. with his merc imprint running on full steam, and previous releases on revered labels like spectral sound and running back, mark is becoming an ever dependent exponent of the real and raw house music vibe, and no more so than on the basement trax ep. basement trax 1, distorted synths wander over a low-slung beat, the marching hi-hats and filter work are tweaked to perfection. it’s a track of basic elements, but done so well, the arrangement building steadily and bags of warmth and soul deep at the heart of this track. the gnarly bass and classic string sounds of basement trax 2 make an ideal companion piece to the a side. delivered in the finest wild-pitch tradition, the raw sounding production packs a punch as the stomping drums and repetitive keys ramp up the heat for a real blazer of an underground club cut.

coming from geneva (switzerland) but napoletano by heart, pascal viscardi is a new face in the deep-house panorama. the 31 years old fellow started his career (as a producer) a few years ago with 2 twelve inches on *the exquisite pain*, including remixes from some heavy weights: mark e, session victim and agnes.
for his debut on frole records, pascal kicks in with a single track. *the warmest color* is the kind of cut you might play when the sun shows up and the bodies are ready for the slower and sexiest loops. in a totaly modern swiss vibe (did you say agnes...?) this double kicked tune offers you a straight, extra-shuffled, moodygritty and dubby moment. is this love at first sight?! yes, it is...

new york haunted have invited some of our own favorite artists to explore the boundaries of techno as a form of communication. straight from detroit, the legendary terrence dixon represents the minimalist funk like no other in his contribution star dust. straightforward dance floor action with a truly hypnotic vibe. former yellow swan, pete swanson comes from a noise background and has been adding monolithic rhythms for some years now, his dirty work blurs these lines and shifts between harsh noise and distorted machine rhythms. cryptic techno philosopher jamal moss, aka hieroglyphic being drops an exercise in sun ra worship called speaking in tongues and label boss drvg cvltvre rounds of the ep with a combination of shortwave radio transmissions and walls of gutwrenching bass drums. often imitated, never duplicated. these are the unique voices of a techno generation.

bad taste recordings hit 2016 in severe kinetic style with a fresh pair of tracks launching the identity of malux, the new neurofunk-focussed moniker of established bass producer skope (inspected). with turbine and fonk the agenda is clear – energetic, funk-fuelled dnb driven by detailed low-frequency design and a boisterous rave vibe.
turbine carries with it a stripped aesthetic, with a percussive pattern driven by the snare and wonky plucked synth work. this is heads-down, bassface material for ravers to get into step to.
fonk on the flip hits a cheeky upbeat tone, switching slickly between bass textures punctuated by staccato sonic fragments.
with support from scene titans such as andy c, the upbeats and radio play from friction on bbc r1 and crissy criss on kiss fm, malux has immediately caught the attention of those who know. bad taste hits the nail on the head again, introducing another name with a big destiny into the halls of dnb.

as one of berlin’s emerging party series, away echoes the deep connection among detroit, new york and berlin with their high-level programs creating an inviting, infectious atmosphere. the newly-established vinyl label is capturing that unique vibe: the second release „through the pain ep“ features the collaboration between away soundsystem (consisting of discrete circuit and christian vance) and vocal talent shaune anthony – including heavy hitting remixes from joe claussell and mr. ties.
