classic arthur russell 7 inch from the depths of west ends vaults. timely remastered from the original tapes. this is a different version to the honest jons 12 inch released in 2003 with more moog bleeps and a slower tempo and has never been commercially available on vinyl (track run time 2:45). it also includes the uptempo freakout rare as hens teeth instrumental mix. original 7 inches going for up to £200 on discogs and only 12 people in the world showing they own a copy. this release never got passed promo stage at west end in 1980.

funk you quickly established itself through the italian scene, since it formed as a djs and party promoters collective, as one of the biggest techno parties in the country. funk you is now coming out with a limited series of vinyls. the first wax -the continuous body - is an outstanding work from oniks, raised in milano and residing now in the well famous dude club, with three originals tracks and one remix from max m, the label manager of m rec ltd. the tracks draw upon ideas from various points, forms and transform it on a physical object.

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.
