remixes by kollektiv turmstrasse, noze & apparat !! raz ohara and the odd orchestra received critical acclaim for their self titled album released earlier this year. they may have not been the inventors of their unique style, but the danish patrick rasmussen and his german cohort oliver doerell have certainly helped to redefined the idea of what an electronic musical album can, could and should be. just as artists such as bjork, portishead and booka shade have done so before them. following up their first album single, kisses, this is offering with four other tracks from the album that get the remix treatment courtesy of apparat, kollektiv turmstrasse, nôze and raz himself. it was only a matter of time before one of razs tracks got the 4x4 treatment. kollektiv turmstrasse have showed respect and kept the spirit of the original alive. keeping the original guitar and vocal arrangement intact while simply adding a little bump and shake to the mix. raz shows us that things can be better the second time around, as he continues to proclaim his, love for mrs. rhodes. although he does not trade in his melodies for a kick and snare, they are certainly more prevalent in this dramatized mix complete with arpeggiated synths and additional sound effects. hopefully, this time he will win her heart

osbornes ruling came out on influential us label spectral sound earlier this year, and has been racking up some fantastic support already. an emotive piece of lush deep house, ruling is an unashamed throwback to the early halcyon days of chicago and new york house music. a perfect slice of deepness for the warmer months...shur i kan is becoming ever present on the nrk roster of late, hes one of our favourite brit producer/remixers, and he stays faithfull to the original mix of ruling here but drags it onto the dancefloor somewhat with some stronger beats and heavier bottom end. king britt, meanwhile, opts for a heady, darker pounding drum remix, with spacious chords and freeform jazz flicked riffs. a little scubambient mix is also included here...

a deep mixture of raw funk, oldschool house, bass, more bass and some kind of a dubstep vibe... the title track pressin on goes straight on dirty bassline moves crossed by dedicated trumpet sounds while the second cluster funk got tricky clap programming and lives up to ones name. on the flip humongous and driftwood are not less funkier but both are with some kind of detroit house appeal and impressive minimal ruffness...

!!!!!!strictly limited to 500 copies!!!!!! together with stefan goldmanns debut cd the transitory state, macro releases a strictly limited box set containing five 7? records holding the electroacoustic album voices of the dead. with his releases for innervisions, perlon and macro stefan goldmann has been a key figure at the cutting edge of post minimal techno and the renewal of house music. this album is a distinctively different affair though, reaching far beyond the scope of dancefloor electronics. starting a trilogy of concept albums, stefan goldmann searches for the common root of all music in an electroacoustic setting. from this album turret is already renowned as the intro sequence of richie hawtins groundbreaking de9 transitions mix compilation and was also commissioned by the biblioteque nationale de france for the imeb phonoteque public collection. the artist explains: at first sight we recognise upfront elements like a melody or rhythmic pattern, which we associate with a certain piece or style of music, but there is tension between two notes, hard-to-define background information that at a closer look is found everywhere - within the music of coltrane and stravinsky, death metal and 9th century byzantine chants. if there is anything like a total, secret common ground, than its this information lurking in the background. these are the voices of the dead, the heritage of an endless line of ancestors brought forward through the centuries. i tried to make these elements audible as clearly as possible. really like this weird space ambient one. ive put katorga and izo already into my final scratch computer and have been playing them! pets debut single a good day for telling lies is a three minute masterpiece that merges the harmonies of the best british pop acts like the kinks, with the energy of early motown artists such as the isley brothers. all dressed up in unique fashion, through innovative use of melodica and banjo. jonte olssons clear but unpolished vocals provides grit to a perfect pop equation.

arctic monkeys were already massive way before they inked a deal with domino in june 2005. people obsessing over the songs? sold out gigs full of stage diving nutcases. hardcore fans pressed up against venue windows, just hoping to catch a glimpse such checkpoints have all been ticked. the boys may share a love of the smiths, the clash and the jam, but in no way were the monkeys ready to simply regurgitate the well trodden brit rock path.

marco shuttle returns to serialism to deliver 3 tracks of groovy and elegant techno. filled with nicely laid out percussive ambiences and dark but uplifting sounds, it reminds us of older cadenza releases with a story/groove that never ends and a latin feel that seduces the body. this one will surely make an important impact in the minimall circuit

short after the latest (develish) dapayk single mos ferry fields the dutch guy henk van zwol aka olene kadar again. his label debut >vakbekwaam< (mfp035) is still fresh and we do remember him playing his liveset on some of the spring-time mos ferry labelnights where he was soaked in sweat during his performance. all this established a solid relation between amsterdam and berlin, which is about to be expanded. the new release >paying billl< presents two new olene kadar masters. on the a-side theres >sarg wualb< taking the subject of >i-modulate-that-siren-until-everybody-gets-up-from-his-seat< to the next level. on the flip side called >betrokken< the young man proves that a track with extensive usage of edgy >frickelsound< elements doesnt have to end in a top-heavy electronica-piece, but can be directed to the floor, very straight forward and impulsive techno. these two tracks show once more what henk van zwol demands from his body and his consciousnes when playing live

these hand-picked tracks are now available on a dj-friendly 2-sided-4-tracks-vinyl-ep and let me tell you, they are well worth the extra investment. the first of the bunch starts off with big man lexys fancy girl, an ever-growing minimal techy peak-time-pusher with a hushed vocal-sample, some anaologue signal sounds and a futuristic and pumping beat. add a great distorted melody to this on the breakdown and the dancefloor will thank you for putting this on: they will go mental! after this introduction, its the newcomers mickey monzza & joseph discos turn with their equally stimulating track lonely. this is a great modern piece of pumping dub techno with a straight-forward attitude. the hi-hats on this tune are mesmerezing, the clappy snares and sirens perfectly placed and the subtle dubby and groovy melody an ideal antithesis to this hectically moving tune. simply nice! but hold on, there is more to come. on the flip there is hamburgs house impressario h.o.s.h. with his track ben johnson and whether this title is a reference to the legendary sportsman or not, its a pretty record-worthy track: wonderful little stabs and vocal sounds and a bassline so warm and groovy it makes your heart melt. then when the breakdown hits you with its long and winding signal sound, the dancefloor will already be bathing in a floor filled with sweet happiness. this is truely delicious! the two newcomers and residents at hive club in zurich animaltrainer have the honour to finish off this ep with their oily tech-house-anthem talkshow, a superb main-floor-peak-time-melody-affair.

the first release on new glasgow label seinan music will be from rising star sei a. this boys stock has been rising fast with releases on french house stables such as missive, silver network and imprime {he may or may not also be responsible for a certain awesome re-edit of an oxford band containing word radio}... fans of his work include miss kitten, laurent garnier, ben watt and a host of many others. meth is another slice of his trademark techy but melodic sound. with haunting vocals and a solid hook, this is due to rock floors from glasgow to guatemala, tech style. on the flip, man of the moment milton jackson takes things a little deeper and darker with a solid mix that will appeal to fans of his work on labels such as freerange, winding road and tsuba. with a musical agenda that sticks to its guns but is not afraid to take a chance is the frame of mind going forward for seinan music. the label has some exiting plans for the future including remixes from another fcomm stalwart, llorca and more releases from sei a.

claremont 56 sublabel with another collection of stunning disco tracks. track one is a peak into the album by jaz that will be released later this year and is a driving disco number for peak times. on the flip manchester s cosmic janes edits are not the obvious choice of tracks...but therefore much more interesthing then many of the edits combg out these days. diving into the 80s obscure pop releases we have some excellent tracks that will get the party started!!

played by c-rock, d julz, gregor tresher, 2000 and one, minilogue and many more… like no other german producer, hannover-born martin buttrich has been decisively influencing the sound aesthetics of electronic dance music since the middle of the nineties. having been more in the background for most of the time while working for and with timo maas and loco dice among others, his benchmark releases for carl craigs label planet e or poker flat have also spotlighted his original name in the public. buttrichs second ep for cocoon couldnt prove better his prediction that in 2008, minimal techno will be containing more warm and melodic components. strangely familiar but always surprising, again and i lost my wallet provide us with bassprone reduction somewhere in between techno and house, and harmony bits that remind of caribbean calypso sounds provide the feeling of the approaching summer which makes both tracks perfect for the final of the open air season 2008. at least, buttrich will be an integral part of the season closing between ibiza main river and spree.

for this seventh release samuel let someone else bring the music, and it s actually the first time since he started klap klap for a bit more then two years ago. claudio mate has really delivered something special here, and you can hear in the title what he s going for. it s classic detroit techno made for 2008. warm and rich melodies combined with funky and driving percussion. it comes in three versions that are connected but still has their own stories. should appeal to all those who appreciates things that is made with lust and passion

go hiyama has risen quickly to a position of international respect that few japanese techno producers can match. from his debut release on james ruskins coda label to his recent surgeon remixed single geometrical he has attracted continuous support from oscar mulero, james ruskin, surgeon, gayle san and many other djs at the cutting edge of techno. his sound is powerful but with an intricacy and ear to detail that shames most of the loop techno from a few years ago. for his first perc trax release he delivers 2 slices of powerful, detailed modern techno that follow on perfectly from geometrical. for the b-side remix perc trax is proud to have a deep dub techno mix from norman nodge. norman is resident at berlins infamous berghain club and the only producer apart from marcel dettmann to record for marcels own mdr imprint. norman has also just released the well-received track native rhythm electric on ostgut ton, which also featured on dettmanns recent berghain 02 mix album. as a dj, norman moved to his berghain residency after organising parties in easy germany, now as his production career flourishes he is starting to make his mark on the international circuit. this is normans first release on a non-german label and is a real coup for perc trax

volume two from mcedits shows a slight expansion of his concept, but mostly hews true to the rows he hoed on volume one. his method is basically to take lovely ballads and slow jams and add a little house heat. its really remarkable how such a simple methodology can produce such effective results but the proof is in the grooves so drop the needle on these for some rich rewards.
