abusing our soft side for dub edgar 9000 gave us these compelling tracks.>play me minus three (patience vs. epiphany mix)< û what starts like a nicely arranged minimal tune bubbles and billows after a short pause up to a big ride on the acid-dub-ghost-train. at the latest when the decently deployed and gated french horn pad sets in on the second half you are completely lost. not for quick peep û but beware: danger of addiction of endless playing is definitely given.meanwhile the title >hook & bait< of the b-side rather reads like the basic principle of fishing. it really sounds like the classic principle of ambient à well almost, since in this case this ambient track is drifting along itself, underlined with a straight driving and floating rhythm fed by an earthly bassline.petri heil! a new essential release from the april77 combo. describing themselves as trash pop, this prolific avant garde indie band is always looking for more weird sonic experiences. what makes the songs different from the rest is that finberg finally found the right accomplices. the current incarnation allows him the perfect balance between the four track seclusion of his bedroom punk and the rough and tumble real world.

tweaked monosynth lines and rich polyphonic pads are featured on most tracks, and single note patterns of various timbre often reinforce the grooves. the title track on the a-side is as simple as effective and the name relates to some of the percussion parts which reminded them of a rodent digging a hole in the ground. first on the b-side is >if i was a man<, a slow-down groover with a dark and funky atmosphere, inspired by barbara alcindor s abstract spoken words, becomes more and more twisted towards the end of the track. last but not least, >zig zag<, which is named after the wobbly monosynth phrase which is being tweaked throughout the tune. all tracks speak of sweet, riding rhythms and nights full of action. pure quality

arctic monkeys were already massive way before they inked a deal with domino in june 2005. people obsessing over the songs? sold out gigs full of stage diving nutcases. hardcore fans pressed up against venue windows, just hoping to catch a glimpse such checkpoints have all been ticked. the boys may share a love of the smiths, the clash and the jam, but in no way were the monkeys ready to simply regurgitate the well trodden brit rock path.
