newly signed to planet mu, travis stewart aka machinedrum is known to the electronic music cognoscenti as one of the finest, yet inexplicably underexposed producers out there. after an extended ep last year on the luckyme label he is putting out this four tracker followed by an album with mu, and his new tracks and live performances are garnering some excited attention and new fans and supporters. the songs on this ep are light and sun-hued with psychedelic, colourful sounds and melodies. clocking in at around 160 bpm, they work within ands alongside the rhythmic conventions of footwork and jungle, with a hefty dose of uk-flavoured bassomatic house thrown in for good measure.
vezelay is 30 year old matthieu le berre who is from clermont-ferrand in france and this six track e.p. of short dreamlike electropop is his debut release.
the >lyre e.p.< simply and beautifully mixes stripped down simple pop structures with a dreamlike quality featuring matthieus soft falsetto singing. the feeling is quite lo-fi and hazy and with repeated listens reveals an austere depth and complexity.
nice price deal !!! nastynasty a.k.a. jasper reeder is a us bay area dubstep producer whose planet mu debut pits a slither of pitch-altered mournful vocal melody against a rough modulated bassline and 8 bit chimes, to catchy and memorable effect.
on the b side - heterotic - a.k.a. mike paradinas and lara rix-martin put together a remix that is altogether more upbeat, pitching up and looping the sample while building loose panned drums and a rushing arpeggio into an optimistic almost romantic crescendo with sweet chords and glassy tones that sit somewhere between juke and synth pop.
smallpeople member dionne aka just von ahlefeld debuts on his co-owned smallville label! entering the smalville record shop in hamburg city on a rainy afternoon you would find co-owner dionne to be working on some arrangement of his tracks. the room fills up with that unique kind of deepness and beauty we already know from dionnes works as a part of smallpeople. after releases on jus eds underground quality, the dial sublabel laid, new deephouse imprint tersiptone and his own smallville label dionne is back on the planet with a heavenly 3 track ep to spread sweetness and love on the dancefloor.

spirit delivers his homage to the legendary amen break, >brother from another planet< as moody mystical pads and twisted distorted subs give way to a pounding bass hook. fellow horseman and renegade hardware stalwart, friske makes his inneractive debut with a classic dark and heavy thumper in >the storm<, loaded with growling subs, echoing stabs and furious beats. big support from bailey, total science, raiden, storm and many more.
rosario born argentinean franco cinelli has been firmly rooted behind the decks since the tender age of 14. drawn by the call of the drums and having researched the creation of music through computers and samplers, the mid 90s saw cinellis first productions taking shape. rapidly becoming a key player on the argentine scene, franco played throughout the country, holding a residency at the prestigious el sotano.
>bussin down< is the first planet mu single from chrissy murderbot, who comes with a style inspired by his chosen city of chicagos juke and footwork scenes. he playfully mixes in elements of other styles of music he loves, such as rnb and dancehall, to create lively mutations with a warm hearted mass appeal that comfortably straddles genres. >bussin down< features chicago footwork supremo dj spinn over some tasty footwork tracks featuring spinns instructional lyrics, over some high speed jazz funk and cracking claps and klaviers. next track >braaain< is a unique amalgam of footwork with the classic early digital sleng teng bassline. the blend works fantastically, as chrissy slides the originals vocal in and out of the mix in a dub style. on the b-side atki2 takes album track >the vibe is so right< featuring vocals from mc zulu and runs it through a lush treatment that mixes detroit washes with tight, laidback, rolling funky house drums, to instant classic effect. on b2, chicago footwork pioneers djs rashad and spinn send the originals vocal into a whirl of complex delays and layered loops over cold drums and hard techno stabs. just the faintest taste of what is in store on the m-bots incredible >womens studies< album due soon on planet mu.

a two tracker of freshness from boxcutter, aka barry lynn, a producer who was taking chances - constantly mutating his dubstep based music, way before people started talking about post-dubstep. this single precedes his new album >the dissolve<, due out in april.
>the face of the planet< is the opening track and first single of the subs freshly squeezed full album decontrol that will be released on lektroluv end of march. the subs give you an anthem. a hymn. some people will recognize this track from the notorious subs live shows, but be prepared for a new version that sounds fresh like a happy polar bear. optimistic yet melancholic. old but new. punchy and sexy. the new subs have arrived!
accompanied by banging remixes by style of eye, tai & gtronic this makes an amazing package.

terror danjah is back on planet mu after last years >gremlinz< compilation reintroduced him to the world at large. since then, as well as planet mu, he has released a single on hyperdub, one on butterz with more to come.
well the gremlinz are back again on planet mu with this punchy 8 track double e.p. of experimental grime that showcases a breadth of new music, that swallows rnb and dubstep into terrors self made matrix.
2010 was a great year for planet rhythm, solid releases from great artists and a lot of good feedback, airplay and reviews. many djs are happy to play the releases and the crowd reacts in the only proper way, just dancing and showing love. planet rhythm is standing for quality techno releases and will continue doing so for years to come. first up for 2011 is claudio ponticelli showing his look on the italian side of techno, enjoy and play it out loud as usual!
the energetic >coconut coast< is an awesome example of whats coming from oriol, and he has bought some remixers along for the party too. faltydl brings the tempo down and gives the track a strange off key shuffling rub thats reminiscent of theo parrish at his oddest. mike paradinas in his jake slazenger guize, does a mix of >memories< thats almost funky house, mixed with big rubbery jazz chords and classy diva vocal samples. shortstuff takes >memories< and draws it into strange new shapes over stiff beats.
planet mu is really happy to present their new signing oriol to the world. his debut album >night and day< has the depth of musicality and subtlety of an artist who knows exactly what he wants, and its also the perfect summer album.
optimum is malcolm chen, a new producer from south east london. he has collaborated with ikonika recently but planet mu are very happy to be releasing his first solo 12 inch.
the lead track >max power< lives up to its name, mixing tight electro-soca drums with a barrage of ravey riffs that build up with strange transporting noises, creating an almost unbearable, driving intensity without ever having to reach for the wobbly bass or other cliches.
hailing from ireland, wicklow and dublin to be precise, solar bears are john kowalski and rian trench, the sole producers and musicians on the album >she was coloured in<. they met and formed at pulse sound engineering school, started recording and were swiftly picked up by planet mu. the album follows in the wake of expectation laid down by their recent >inner sunshine ep< and a series of remixes.
dj roc, known to his mother as clarence johnson, was born and raised on the southside of chicago better known as the low end. the crack in >crack capone< refers to his style of production. like an underground chemist, dj roc produces variant strains of chicago juke music, the crack referring to the synapse snapping, potentially ankle cracking manipulation of rhythms and the sampling, hijacking and ultra-rhythmic micro-editing of black american pops dominant forms into a style thats been developed and tested on the streets of chicago.
planet rhythm comes hard with another slammer for december. driving techno from start to finish by spiros kaloumenos, claudio ponticelli, luky r.d.u and the mighty gunjack! this is quality techno..
triple visions flagship label planet rhythm is going on strong with another blasting techno release. a.paul is next in line releasing for the planet under his other famous alter ego: loudon kleer which he uses for his releases on labels like parallel 125 records, synewave and dirty ego records to name just a few. while his a.paul releases are strictly banging releases for the dancefloor, loudon kleer takes us into the darkside of his mind. although he takes you straight into the dungeons of techno, in de dungeons they also like to dance. the crazy funky edits and shuffles into the beats make sure the feet will move according the rhythm. yes planet rhythm is fully ruling the scene like we used to and get ready for more strictly techno soon!
numan khan from manchester is a new artist for planet mu with an original musical style that mixes dubstep and grime influences with an idiosyncratic take on rhythm to great effect.
this four track ep showcases his styles from the a side with the lush melodic accordian and snes melodies of >race against time<, to the slower, disco influenced >photograph<.
the b side starts with >voodoo<, which combines grimey bass and strings with offbeat drums to odd, driving effect and finishes with >xx< which sounds like a long lost golden era 8-bit grime instrumental but with deft production tweaks and fx that keep it interesting and effective.
planet rhythm presents reeko! the most famous producer from mental disorder was already responsible for one of the best tracks on the highly anticipated prruk060 >sixty ep<. now he is back with a full solo ep, featuring 4 great tracks resulting in a very diverse ep. pure quality!
the follow up by this mysterious artist to the cult hit >first step<, that got big support from unexpected places. dark and twisted jakking acid for basements...
marco bernardi marks his second outing on the dirty planet imprint with a 4 track ep bursting with emotion and originality. >i feel the lies< has a more laid back approach with deep and trippy grooves and evolving acidy stabs which are complimented with the unassuming and neatly placed vocal of detroit legend and aux88 founder keith tucker, making it one of those truly >special< tracks. second track >giro< (exium remix) is directed more towards the harder techno fans keeping the arrangement simple and the kick big and bold, this excellent remix has seen early support from surgeon with him choosing to feature it on the recently released fabric53 mix cd. flipping the record over sees two tracks exploring different sounds and moods. >msry< builds pace surrounded by an array of atmosphere, hissing percussion and lush detroit sounding synths where as killer track >giro< is a raw, off beat, electro monster laced with acid sequences and dirty bass.
back after a well deserved holiday the planet rhythm comes hard with another slammer. driving techno from start to finish by luky r.d.u on the a1. the next track by a.paul is a wicked rhythmic workout from another planet. exium last but not least takes control of the flip with two massive techno workouts! heavy bass and crazy drums in the style of their latest music masterpieces on pole and warm up. this is quality techno!
vol.2 with remixes from robag wruhme, reboot, martinez !! hailing from berlin norman weber and marco resmann released an album in autumn 2009 that can be easily called a success. this is why there were no problems at all to find an illustrious circle of remixers. jena-based robag wruhme already contributed one remix to matthias tanzmanns >bulldozer< in 2006. the old partnership was now revived and robag wruhme was asked for a reinterpretation of another moon harbour track. his version of >mr. jack< captivates you with its mix of funk and darkness and has an overwhelming effect on the dance floor
