irenicspc002 brings us two new tracks by bas amro. best known for his releases on freerange records and wolfskuil records. for this ep he takes an unusual straight-forward approach. chained is a driving dub track with beautiful chords. while nearing leans towards the deeper side of the techno spectrum. with both tracks being very suitable for the dancefloor. the b-side finds label boss roger gerressen changing pace. delivering a remix for the early hours.
dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection. the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven. whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

first up is long time friend phil kieran with an ep made specifically with optimo in mind. it has been tried and tested over recent months and more than ticks all our boxes. we feel confident it will tick yours too.
phil says “the ep was recorded in my house and made up of mostly live percussion performed live by thomas tettey annang. originally from ghana. he moved to belfast some years ago. it just so happens his wife is a close friend of my sisters and that was the first introduction. thomas now runs -releasing rhythms” here in belfast teaching drum classes.
we used a wide selection of traditional african drums that all have their own name. each one has a style and a sound. the rhythms used in this record would stem back to south american rhythms but using african drums. this was a sound and rhythm that influenced early post punk records in new york and still has an influence on dance music today.”

chreal01 is the debut project by scottish producer chaotic reality exploring a meditative side to techno. written over the course of several months spent living in new york as a resistance to the frenetic pace of a busy environment. chreal01 contains four tracks that repeat. oscillate and soundtrack a more centred existence. inspired by shinichi atobe. avalon emerson. newworldaquarium / ross154 & the 7th plain. each track in this self-released record is named after its sequence and operates on a slower tempo. focussing on melody and sound design. with aim to investigate the space between dub techno and early trance. track one opens with gentle dancing chords developing over 7 minutes. with subtle nods to echospace and black dogs otaku over a punchy kick and warm sub. reverb-licked stabs pass softly in and out the mix and ride over a homogenous chord range. highlighting points in the melody and meandering back into the ether. two has an introspective focus. rarely reaching more than two kicks per four bars. an arpeggiated lead centres the composition. slowly developing over a thick bassline. distant snaps and pops season the track and highlight the empty breathing space intentionally left in the production. on the b-side. three is characterised by heavily saturated kicks softly thumping under a bubbling melody. broken by echo-delayed stabs varying in form. filter depth and feedback timing. on the closing song four. chaoticreality develops and sculpts a stack of delayed chords creating a progressively elevating soundscape. the lead melody chords layer and discord changing thickness. shape and form throughout with pseudo kicks acting as a complimentary melody. here. cr plays with space to creating a hypnotic spacial production akin to digital justice or the orb. with the intention to take the listener to a transcendental state. chreal01 is housed in a popset sleeve & hand stickered

drew mcdowall and hiro kones collaborative record the ghost of georges bataille induces a state of suspense via sonic seance. conjuring the sentiment of death as productive force. the artists join their analog paradigms to open a door elsewhere. or perhaps. inside sublimating personal struggles into ritualistic offerings. churning. cinematic. and pulsating with an organic sentience the ghost of georges bataille invites an undeniable presence into the consciousness and lulls both collectors and the newly inducted alike into catharsis with the hairs on their arms standing up. not for the casual listener.
repitch recordings new release is one of a kind. attesting to the greatness of belgian industrial techno pioneer hypnoskulls album ffwd>burnout. the label has compiled a fresh selection from the 1999 milestone and now pressed it for the first time on vinyl. the aim is to introduce its grinding breakbeats. its blasting hyperbolic groove. and ferocious disturbance to a new generation. championing an undying enthusiasm for heavy and deconstructed club sounds. moreover. the ep comes with an exclusive remix by birmingham master surgeon. whose own militancy in hard-edged techno has contributed to his legendary status. reuniting a different yet somewhat similar vision of dancefloor experimentation. it also includes an updated version of hypnoskulls manifesto. renewing his methods of cultural resistance.

born in poland and now operating out of the ever-effervescent london. the adoptive city where she’s learnt the ropes of music production and djing. anii – real name ania iwinska – has lived many lives in one. yet if one thing’s remained a constant over the years. no matter the harshness of the obstacles life threw at her. it’s indeed a deep and inextinguishable love for music. be it behind the mixing desk at wired studios or in her own shoreditch workroom. the key place where she’s kept honing her skills with unfazed diligence. up to the point of making it her actual second home. ań......ii lands her debut transmission on kompakt and surely not the last. named after the polish word for ‘roots’. ‘korzenie’ finds ania threading her way in between subtle deep-house and techno folds. delving into the essential strength of her past and present to carve out an hypnotic maelstrom of traditional polish music strings. tribal percussions and elegiac melodies. coupling eerie ostinatos with stealthy bass moves. it’s an ode to the magnitude of memory and power of resilience that reels out. blurring the line between late night club environment and further spacious. moony soundscapes.

this new album comprises 6 tracks of edm: emotional dance music. they were made and recorded during the hot summers of 2016 and 2017. everything you need then is freshness and coolness and this is exactly what they are giving. they combine the overall positivity of the summer and the melancholy caused by the insistence of the heat. of the light. of the endless nights. they were played directly from the machine to a 1/4’’ tape. which explains their very natural and direct development. 303-like bass. gnarly hi-hats. heavy kicks and digital licks are still to be expected here.

jono ma (of jagwar ma) and angus gruzman (of dreems. die orangen) present “the dreemas”. recorded between their studios in industrial north london and the rogue outskirts of berlin. the dreemas is an electronic cryogenic stasis of two life-long friends in varying states of crisis. conversion and transcendence in the year 2017. two minds and hearts coalesced into an ocean of sound. the groundwork formed with over a decade of instinctive studio sessions. sweat-riddled dj conferences. and shoulder-to-shoulder dance dos in clubs. pubs and dusty down under doofs. they’ve spent endless hours together at the bottom of salty oceans gazing up at alien aquatic life forms. for years they’ve shared synthesisers across continents. exchanged records. lived together. flown together and bleed together. and at long last they have signed a contract that says they will “techno together”. the past presents the future. and the future presents the past on this soul-state snapshot of 2 friends encapsulated in the epoch of a 12”.
design default makes a contemplative debut lp blending ambient soundscapes with electronica & jazz hints. entitled dawn chorus. the record sounds like a reflexion on awakening to new feelings and ideas as well as reminiscing and looking at those that came in the past. the lp opens in a playful and harmonious way with bells play. bringing forward the idea of awakening. the rest of the record designs a world in which slow unfurling soundscapes with heavy bass like the forest or two mirrors consistently stand alongside glitchy atmospheres like the distorted ecce or the celestial escale. tracks like peaks and notes or wood caving put the accent on harmonic and textural content. overall. the record is rooted in a cosmic almost new age ambient tradition. but focuses more on the idea of renewal than vagrancy and languishing. if ecstasy and euphory do not describe the feeling here. darkness doesnt either. the result is a balanced. mature and diverse lp. bringing many beautiful sonic atmospheres to life. and telling a journey of wonder of openness.

thomas schumacher is finally back on noir music with another outstanding 2-tracker. over the years me and thomas have become great friends as we click on so many levels and share the same taste in dark. melancholic and emotional music. i have been a big fan of thomas’ music for many years and i am still a great supporter of his productions today so obviously i am honored to release his music on my label again. on these 2 tracks thomas has recorded 2 authentic and raw tracks with a no holding back. zero bulls*** attitude. you can hear the “no formular” approach on both and i love that. we had an honest and creative back and forth a&r process on both tracks before and after testing them in the clubs and this has given both a unique and fresh techno sound. this is thomas schumacher’s natural rhythm.
in its five years dgtl has carved its style and sound worldwide as one of amsterdams staple dance music institutions. this year the organisation is deepening its focus and vision. therefore dgtl is launching its own imprint dgtl records. the label builds on the festivals musical theme of an evocative cross section of the sounds and styles showcasing forward thinking. cutting edge artists. the one to kick off the new imprint will be the bulgarian hardware wizard kink. best known for his live performances. teemed with explosive energy. which for a consecutive year puts him to the no.1 spot of live acts on ra poll. he is also one of houses most in demand producers. kink has worked with dgtl for quite some time. including last years audiovisual installation transmission tower. where the first track neutrino was born. the melodic neutrino . kicks off with syncopating bassline. its interconnecting layers organically jump over and under each other. reflecting the organic character of kinks live performances. where every knob touch and turn matters. on the latter. he built the b-sider dynamo: i loaded my favourite element from neutrino in my computer and i tweaked the sound through various weird devices in my studio. till it sounded like a completely new track. as usual. he added a few endless loops on the record. for the adventurous djs. exclusively for the 12inch. the idea for the dgtl records artwork is to feature a different visual/graphic artist from the dgtl art program every year starting with the cover from tim buiting and his graphical visual of the liege train station. designed by calatrava for this years releases.
dj haus (the hardest working man in show business!) teams up with mak & pasteman for our landmark quarter century release!!! how the hell did that happen? we only expected to manage about 4 releases tops? we are really proud to welcome these guys to the ever expanding dabj family. and they have not let us down with this first release... the title track and -bang it- are room shaking heavy bass numbers. which we have been rinsing for almost a year now... drive mf sounds like paul johnson and daniel bell -stuck in an elevator- (or some other bullshit analogy like that...). all 3 tracks = essential. period. -buy on sight- etc etc... carefully hand stamped by the two slackest men in show business (or at least one of them anyway...)
jos & eli might seem unknown to many electronic music lovers but they have been releasing great music since 2013. they have been sending me music for a long time and i think we have spend about a year developing this first release on noir music. making sure it represented their debut on the label perfectly.
when you hear the adrenaline hunt release you will notice that the 2 guys from tel-aviv have developed into a great production team over the years and these 3 tracks included here are not only cleverly crafted for the deeper dancefloors but can also be enjoyed on home stereo’s.
wareika steps up for the amphias 12th vinyl chapter. the german trio walks off the beaten techno trail. applying just enough pressure on the bassline pedal to envelope your attention on the sinusoidal theme from break new sol. revealing at the end a rewarding guitar solo. hidden all this time under the crisp percussions. on a train again completes side a. with its industrial ambient modulations steadily stabbed by the derailed cadence.
sit reinterprets wareika on side b: a more dancefloor oriented take. with just a few breaks from the devilish rhythm. enough to give the crowd some time to breathe into the tracks odd atmosphere. wareika s playful harmony makes a great addition to amphias musical path.
alek s offers up another dose of pensive techno vibes in his “paradise lost” ep. side a opens up with “bold”. a slice of laid back while still pounding techno. boasting zippy synths with an unmistakable analog flavour. it’s closely followed by andres zacco’s rework of “honey wheat”. an apt reconstruction of the original that’s aimed squarely at the dancefloor. the argentinian producer and recent ilian tape alumni dives in with a powerful groove. cutting its way through a suspended atmosphere full of spaced out sounds. over on the b-side we’re greeted with “paradise lost”. a slow-paced melody that gradually shifts into a dreamy groove filled with spaced out drums and abstract delays. last but not least. the original version of “honey wheat” is a somewhat atmospheric. yet functional floor warmer that fits a resigned groove.
lobster theremin launch their first sublabel proper. heralding a darker. murkier and deeper sound on their newly minted mörk imprint. retaining its mother labels passion for championing newcomers. mörk launches with a debut release from young netherlandic producer nthng. cultivating a sound that sits somewhere between prince of denmark and early claro intelecto with splashes of clone influence. nthngs stripped-back techno walks fuzzy. shrouded paths through nolstagic moments in time. at times almost drowning. his engulfing sound is a raw reminder of the power of subtlety and the use of meditative looping along with a rough-around-the-edges production style has led to an incredibly moving debut work.

paper tree sneaked out into the world for a moment a few years back and then vanished. lee burridge loved the track so much that he continued to harass rebelski. sometimes standing outside his window in the flower bed. for weeks on end until he finally agreed to let lee release it on all day i dream. not content with a single track lee went back to rebelskis garden and tapped on the window repeatedly until he agreed to make some more beautiful tracks. obviously pestering producers in this manner bares fruit. the paper tree ep ranges from a beautiful solitary solo piano piece that wouldn t be amiss in a british period piece drama where someone dies unexpectedly leaving the survivors to deal with it. all the while maintaining their stiff upper lip. fly the kite made us want to go outside and do just that. so we did. it was epic. circles and squares joins paper tree as one of those dance floor moments best experienced with ones eyes closed. myriad is the sound of a young lady robots jewelry box (yes. we predict robots will be wearing jewelry in the future) that she(bot) pines to hear when she s all grown up and rusty. omoshiroi is. well. its just so damn pretty. good work rebelski. good work.

it is undeniable that bjarki and his bbbbbb imprint are at the forefront of iceland’s dance music scene. playing a vital role in asserting the country as a hub for genre bending electronic music. although the label has proved to be a solid platform for bjarkis own experimental material. bbbbbb continues to host some of icelands best talents (notably last year’s lauded release from volruptus who followed up with another killer outing on т..р..и..п..). for bbbbbb’s 10th release bjarki continues to substantiate his a&r abilities. introducing the world to lord pusswhip. having enjoyed a meteoric rise as a key player in icelands hip-hop scene. the young producers sound has continued to evolve since befriending bjarki and the bbbbbb crew. and the hand of glory ep now sees him at arguably his most adventurous and experimental yet. murky atmospherics introduce xmas jam creep before a cacophony of percussion ups the energy. setting the tone for a dynamic release. crazy shit mane follows with its crunchy drums. scintillating synths and sultry bass until hop out the car blends hip-hop vocals with mesmerising chord sequences reminiscent of richard d.james early work. an undulating bassline then works alongside a chorus of angelic voices in ‘the hand of glory. making way for the syncopated and dreamlike shroomm0(u)rning. moving into ambient territories. green house living layers pads and samples together to generate an otherworldly aesthetic until choppa hard combines ominous drones with a steady beat to conclude the release.
