theres no better man to mark the fiftieth release on wolf music than south london stalwart and og wolf family, medlar. marrying techy touches and ukg stylings, with sonar bumps and medlars signature, sample-heavy groove, its a fitting way to bring in the half century.

its taken almost 3 years to get the man like medlar back on delusions following his 2015 release with dan shake but finally its come together. that release, along with his regular output for wolf, riverette and for discos only has helped cement medlars reputation as one of the leading uk underground house producers and led to official remixes and approved edits for legendary labels tk disco and west end no less! the medlar seal of quality has led to support from such influential heavyweight selectors as dj harvey, gilles peterson and dj koze. kicking things off we see medlar in straight up dance floor mode on title track nrg, coming through with a drum-heavy workout that utilises a gnarly bassline, echoing synth stabs and rasping hats to excellent effect. flip over for his own dub version which strips things back further placing all the emphasis on the bassline and going heavy on the space echo for a tripped out, dubby warehouse vibe tailor made for the freaky hours. closing the ep we have the aptly named tripped which drops the bpm’s for a low-slung mood-setter to warm up the floors with. a simple groove lays the foundation for a rolling bassline while chiming synths weave in and out of the spacious mix.

the legendary west end records kick off 2017 with the a brand new re-edits series inviting like-minded producers with an underground thirst and a deep understanding of house & disco culture to collaborate on a very special project. first up, wolf music man medlar, applying his dancefloor know-how to west end’s rich archive of classic disco and boogie. hand picking four personal favourites, medlar reworks them perfectly for current club sets. picking out dub sections and skilfully reworking & extending them proving exactly why medlar has been such a draw to labels like delusions of grandeur and for discos only. “i put these edits together for myself and a few friends to play in our dj sets. west end was one of the key stepping stones to what would later become house music and for many is the definitive sound of early 80s new york. i d argue that it s aged better than any other label of that era and if you re relatively new to the label or know it inside out, the catalogue can likely still provide something new.” these four sublime new edits from medlar showcase his passion for digging deep, knowledge of house history and skills as a producer.

promos, edits, mega-mixes, the record pools, white labels, acetates, reel to reels. all of the above were the weapons of choice for the disc jockey s of yesteryear, utilising these tools helped various luminaries pave the way for where we are today on the modern dance-floor. those secret mixes, private versions and edits of the hottest disco jams that only the select few had access to could make or break a dj s reputation in the clubs and on the streets. it is within this world that the for discos only label operates, sourcing the finest underground edits and mixes for the discotheques. we carefully hand pick and dig for obscure or forgotten versions of the best tracks that may have been previously out of reach for the majority, inviting the hottest editors and mixers to open up their archives and share their secret weapons with us all via the medium of the 12- record.

moxie presents volume two sampler is the first physical release from moxie s compilation series of the same name on her newly conceived on loop imprint. the compilation was released for free via moxies soundcloud page in january 2016, and was met with rave reviews and radio support from the likes of benji b, gilles peterson, annie mac and toddla t. this sampler features 3 tracks taken from the compilation and an exclusive dub of medlars in dreams, the original of which was a highlight on the compilation.

hand stamped vinyl only release with promo feedback form included... the a side, body action has been causing quite a stir since it was included in medlar s excellent solid steel mix last year. with it s recognisable vocal hook and piano line, it stood out amongst the high calibre of records included. on the flip aya chan is a brand new cut but channels medlar s love for classic 80 s labels such as west end & prelude.

what a treat we have here! the long awaited medlar debut on riverette is finally here: after a string of amazing releases on wolf music and having remixed a few of the biggest acts on the scene such as disclosure, medlar gives us 3 tracks that showcase what a talent this guy is. first of on a1... chills, that’s all we need to say, one of the most anticipated tracks on soundcloud, on b2 we have his take on acid and what a take that is. on the flip side we have a track for the weirder side of the dance floor just as we like it, something in between house and techno. if this wasn’t enough there s a remix too, by up and coming and classy as hell act fyu chris it’s freaking amazing!

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

following on from his debut album last year, sleep. medlar follows up with extended 12inch versions of tides, the stand out track from the album and tap spring. boston crate digger kon is on remix duty who turns out a straight up house version of tides. while wolf music resident greymatter takes on album track listen, turning the jazz shuflling house track into a rumbling big room rework

when thinking balearic, there is a name that should strike you right away. no, not ibiza itself, but the man responsible for producing and curating some of the lushest sunset music the white island has ever heard steve miller, perhaps most commonly known as afterlife. making a name for himself in the early 2000s by playing monumental events such as glastonbury, headlining cafe del mars 20th anniversary party and reaching the top of the uk charts by remixing another chance from roger sanchez, hes managed a consistency unlike many others in the decade and a half since. releasing standout classic albums such as simplicity two thousand and speck of gold, his music has been released on the premiere labels of the time, such as hed kandi and defected, while also being featured on numerous compilations to date.

in conjunction with the label turning 8, wolf music return to the va format that see’s them releasing forgotten gems and exclusive tracks from label mates. brs’ bouncing was originally released in 2000 on imperial dub a firm favourite with wolf music for many years, it now has the opportunity to be introduced to a new generation of record buyers. paradiso rhythm self released greetings & salutations digitally early last year. a killer record in every way that deserves a vinyl release. on the flip ishmael & medlar supply a collab track recorded last year at the red bull studios. rounding off the ep is an updated version of krl’s i wanna be with you that was originally released on wolfep003.
