r&s welcome back highly-revered techno artist benjamin damage with his new double headed single ‘malfunction / binary . ‘montreal’ from his debut r&s ep proved to be one of the label s biggest techno releases of the last few years - the pummelling drums, intense atmosphere and beatuiful melodies are synonymous with the music that has made the label timeless. road tested in benjamin’s heavy artillery live shows across the globe, malfunction / binary pick up where the last ep left off - pistoning rhythms, breakneck beats and monolithic bass, but this time the mood is more reflective and optimistic - skying cloud-like pads offer a dreamy counterpoint. made between london and berlin, following recent live shows at berghain and oval space, benjamin’s wanderlust and restless studio dynamic sees him continually breaking down his gear to travel, “being on tour with all my gear i find it quite easy to work in new places,” he explains. “i like the energy of different cities and it s good to keep moving.” this new ep is announced ahead of a huge, all hardware live show at sonar by night in barcelona. with ‘malfunction/binary’ sure to do the business and an album in progress for r&s scheduled for 2019 it’s going to be an exciting year ahead!

as the first artist modeselektor signed to their hugely influential 50 weapons imprint, damage deployed his trademark heavy artillery beats over bold, blistering riffs and haunting, emotive melodies to devastating effect.
with the closing of 50 weapons, r&s offers a new home. his unique ability to deliver dancefloor destroying mayhem, dark atmospheres and richly textured melodies perfectly encompasses the music that has made the label timeless.

our third to last release combines two driving forces of contemporary techno: homegrown benjamin damage is joined by truncate, a deadly combination for any dj s bag. ben damage s -battle- sees him layer his hyperactive grooves over a thumping kick with a small but effective acid line topping things off. truncate s -86- is a massive track dave sumner aka function previously used in his -berghain 07- mix, obviously serving as one of the highlights in there. it s creeping synths build up to a climax in typical truncate fashion, with huge, compressed kickdrums pounding the dance floor mercilessly

„obsidian“ lässt raum für melodie zwischen den kicks und snares und öffnet sich dem hörer in einem traumähnlichen gefilde. damage verzichtet dabei eher auf rohe beats, tracks wie „cosmonaut“, „parallax view“ und „transmission“ liefern aber mit sicherer schlagkraft einen adrenalinschub. es sind jedoch die sphärischen titel wie „pulse width“ und „poly“, das acid-angehauchte „tetrapod“ und das großartige „shimmer“, mit denen sich der künstler tiefer in das unbekannte wagt. man fühlt sich an die genialität von afx, skam und autechre erinnert. „obsidian“ zeichnet sich durch ein zusammenspiel von wärme, herz, seele und viel viel schweiß aus und zeichnet somit ein perfektes bild und ein grandioses finale für das label. benjamin damage selbst beschreibt das album als: -collection of fragmented memories from all the music i’ve ever liked, distorted and restructured into a full length techno record. a purely personal project and an end of an era with 50weapons.” man vergisst schnell, dass benjamin damage erst seit 2010 platten veröffentlicht. nur zwei jahre, nachdem sein erster track released wurde, erschien sein hochgelobtes debüt-album „they!live“ zusammen mit doc daneeka. damages erste solo-album folgte im folgenden jahr und zeigte eine entwicklung hin zum von plaid und jeff mills geprägten sonic sci-fi. kritiker lobten die wärme und rückkehr des souls in die von kälte geprägte welt des berlin-techno.

benjamin damage meldet sich mit drei amtlichen clubbangern zurück! speziell das mit seiner neuen analogen tb303 erzeugte, ravige *acid bath*, als hommage an den bleepsound der goldenenen Ära der 90er jahre, ist ein fest für alle techno-liebhaber. damit bewegt sich benjamin weiterhin geradewegs in technogefilde, während seine uk bass-vergangenheit nur noch ansatzweise durchschimmert.
