ltd to 200 copies! tonkind is coming up with a release of head and founder edgar peng, who worked here rather more on a tool, as you could find it back in the 90ies classified as detroit sound. now >lahars< and >surges< suppose to be a paraphrase of this origin sound. discomposure, harshness and yet a sweet tingling tension is running throughout the tracks. repetitive grooves with a touch of polyrhythmic and bumpy rough surfaces are creating an atmosphere of infinity. once you have closed the eyes and the rhythm is riding your skin, you might feel a certain vibe, followed by a vision of bellevilles backyards.
close to the days of the days, when the maya calendar will come to an end and somthing special is waiting for human beeing, two smart fellas from berlin are contrebuting this happening with the so called popocatepetl ep. popocatepetl is a yet sleeping massive vulcano in mexico, who just recently rumbled to life. it looks like this ep will come up with the same energy and power. four tracks with many statements and diversity and still homogeneous in their substance. to find an own style and esspecialy an own sound is what the two try to push to the fore. if we compare this release to their last successful released track on tonkind schmalwild, we hear this major line, where a transperent empathy is to find. kotelett & zadak, showing on this ep their ability to creat dance music with a certain flow and groove which makes you feel aloof and hot but still laid-back and relaxed. it just shows their own temper and shows us why, this two guys are one of the most beloved djs in berlins underground scene. its their personal spirit what comes up in the music, that makes this release sound so authentic. hopefully people will notice, yet even without any dramatic fireworks, popo has the power to wreak havoc.
with tok024, tonkind presents a wonderful collaboration work,in between the australian team shades of gray from sydney and and melbournes shiny kid uone. best think about it, for this production they did not met in sydney nor in melbourne, but in prag. here, the one part of shades of gray, czech national michal schwa still have his studio. long time ago, back in summer 2005 he landed in australia with a bag full of vinyl, a string of dj gigs and the promise of unchartered territory ahead. soon after he met there local producer nick west, their common passion lead to a collaboration. besides their shades of gray project, they formed the label beef records. since then they have made a huge impact on the house music scene, shur-i-kan, miguel migs, luna city express, miss kittin, jimpster, pezzner, laurent garnier, smash tv and the timewriter are just the tip of an iceberg of fans. their debut album and career pinnacle to date, soul machine, was critically acclaimed by the press, receiving glowing reviews in dj mag and debug. to carry on this journey they keep on meeting good producers and djs all around the world to share and develope their skills. katoomba is the outcome of such an exchange. further more uone who is even more a walking music normad, gave his best ingredients to this release. what we hear is a shaking, colorful ep, which will arrest attention out there...for sure
the dawn ep is the debut release of markey alias sander markey. who recently settled down in berlin, after he was living and working as dj and producer in gent, belgium. now he comes up with four really playful tracks. here he shows his affection for funky grooves and soulful voices. with support from mz. sunday luv, who gave her voice for a freaky intermezzo on dawn, the ep starts offensively. the repetitive groove and the marching 303 bass drum toped with a dark demanding voice have a mystic massage. as contradiction to it you hear a charming dirty string ensemble and an odd delayed snare crushing the monotony. spring break as well as in the shade, the last made in coop with robyns alias yannick robyns, have definitely the warmer funky attitude. playing around with a bobby mcferrin vocal sample and bringing out the soul. facing the clouds is closing the ep as rather melodic and atmospheric track.

supported by luciano, claude vonstroke, alexi delano, ekkohaus, shinedoe, estroe. once more, a newcomer is going to be introduced on this tonkind release. its samuel fach, better known as laufmasche, who mainly was producing and remixing for the techno genre, is now getting more into a fresh-funky house sound. the change of residence from the mid-german student city giesen to the pulsating captile berlin, suppose to give him a fresh creative spring time. simple pleasure becomes his new calling card on this new project. this up-coming tracks are one after the other an absolute ear catcher and gives you an easy access to this open but already significant individuel sound. with an special touch and in a simple way, samuel fach combines soulful keys and lead sounds with an classic repetitive house-beat, without sounding mainstream or retro. he mediates a feeling of freshness and warmth, either with peak time runners like murter or discore or the expanding smotha work on the show and simple pleasure. all tracks, you will hear instantly, are coming from the same citchen, where a young and creative chef is cooking amazing stuff with very special flavour. one thing for sure... more choices of samuels menus will succeed.
supported by luciano, timo maas, pig & dan, anthony collins, woody, dustin zahn. rifraf is rafael gimelstein, recently relocated from sydney to berlin, born in lithuania, raised in israel, flowered in sydney. classically trained violinist, deep as fu*k party organiser and creator of sydneys earthdance festival, rifraf is now full time producer making his distinctive sound in electronic music world. philosophy started as a casual recording of his granny klara telling stories about her time in a concentration camp in germany, and singing the yiddish song tumbalalaika and ended as a very intelligent moving sound collage. the whole peace is a trip, which feeds you constantly with changing noises and visions. although philosophy is transferring a lot of aural information, it is never telling to much and still works perfectly on the dance floor. its just an intoxicating musical tale which drives you on a wild journey. with the both remixes, one of alexkid with his deep as fu*k remix and phillip baders off runner the release get its pretentious dance floor alternatives. fifteen seconds close this fine ep, which rafael did in coop with the young israeli producer omer from tel aviv.
with this release sinan kaya, an istanbul based dj and producer, is becoming a fresh member of the berlin tonkind crew. since 2001 his passion became also his profession, which he continuously dispread with dj-ing and scores of releases across the bosporus over to europe. his productions and sets can be defined as deep and playful. so aswell this release, which comes up with three variable tracks. something else in the front, shows sinan kayas touch for the impulsive sound.this track becomes a real trip on the dance floor and reflects a farsighted feeling for elctronic dance music. on the fells operates more the minimal genre and adepts a symbiosis of many samples, a duby bass and a bumpy rollin groove. as last but not least there is bloom, a rather charming and friendly tech/ deep house track consisting all required ingredients to make it work as dance floor teaser. in all three tracks its possible to notice some eclectic material of jazz, funk, chigago and jackin fragments put together to a unique sound and providing a different vision for life
notic nastic is, once more, another newcomer act on tonkind, who has to be watched with highly attention. its predicated individual sound made it become a hype on myspace within a month. so other labels, producers and popular djs already are asking to license and to remix several tracks, although it isn’t even out yet. we can t give to much infos about the backround and identity of the charachter behind this act, due to the fact that there is an aim, to stay anonym. that gives us more space to talk about the music itself and esspecialy about this debut release on tonkind
